The news KBS2 series starring Ji Chang Wook, Choi Sooyoung and Sung Dong Il marked its premiere on August 10.

On the morning of its official launch, the lead stars and director talk about the filming process and experiences.

If You Wish Upon Me revolves around the dangerous young man Yoon Gyeo-rye, who barely has the motivation to live. After countless detentions, he later serves as a volunteer in a hospital that grants ill people’s last wishes.

Moreover, Choi Sooyoung, as the optimistic nurse Seo Yeon-joo, spreads the happy virus in the series. Notably, she has a firm determination to fulfilling her patient’s last wish.

Having a warm heart, Kang Tae-shik (Sung Dong Il) is the leader of “Team Genie” who grants last wishes.

Director Kim Yong Wan, along with actors Ji Chang Wook, Sung Dong Il, Choi Sooyoung, and Won Ji An, attended the production presentation.

Introducing the series, Director Kim affirmed the attractive story. He relays the idea came from the producer of the production company who told about a real foundation in Netherlands four years ago.

“At the time, I only thought it was a charming story and for three years I was working on something else. But the producer’s representative has been preparing for it.

Sharing the remarkable synergy of the actors, Director Kim can’t ask for more working with genuine artists.

“Ji Chang-wook, Sung Dong-il, Choi Soo-young, and Won Ji-an have all been like friends for 10 years from the first meeting. Naturally, the atmosphere on site was good. I was grateful to the actors just for being able to do this sincere work together.”

Ji Chang Wook Challenges A Healing Drama

Interestingly, If You Wish Upon Me marks Ji’s comeback on KBS camp since his acclaimed portrayal in Healer. Portraying an intriguing character, he shares feeling like going back to his hometown for his latest project.

“I came to KBS after 7 years of Healer. I also debuted here on KBS, so this feels like a homecoming. I also did a lot of work on weekend dramas and daily dramas The script is thought-provoking script. I have a desire to express the character of Yoon Gyeo-rae well.”

Expounding on the soothing message of the series, the actor appreciated the opportunity to be part of the dram

“I thought a lot about the process of how the Yun people can open their hearts and approach people. It was not easy, thanks to my fellow actors and staff, I learned a lot and had fun filming.”

Sooyoung’s First Public Network Female Lead

Describing her character growth in the drama as healthy, upon learning that Ji Chang Wook and Sung Dong Il confirmed appearances, she decided to join without hesitation.

Unraveling her preparations for her role as a nurse in a hospice center, she remarked focusing on giving soul to her character-building process.

“I have seen a lot of documentaries about nurses working in the hospice ward. The nurses working here are managing many aspects comprehensively for emotional and therapeutic purposes rather than taking medical measures to prolong life. There was a time when I felt the hard work of the staff and felt grateful for the job.”

Sung Dong Il’s Signature Flair In Acting

Reuniting with Director Kim since working in The Cursed, Sung Dong Il revealed he gladly appeared because there were no action scenes. Reckoning the narrative matches his age, he explains the decision to appear in the series

“It is a work meant for me. A kind of drama befitting my age. I am at an age to be interested in people around me, not just my family.”

Echoing Sung’s statement, Director Kim expressed admiration for the seasoned actor for capturing the character well.

A Healing Drama For The Whole Family

All the actors couldn’t agree more with the pleasant energy while filming. Thus, translating into friendly character relationships.

Known to have worked mostly on OTT channels, this will be Won Ji An’s first leading role in a public broadcast station so her family really liked it. She details her preparations for the work.

“I discovered the shortcomings and scars of Ha Jun-kyung’s character, and I wondered how it would heal as the drama progressed. It was also fun to imagine her narrative that was not revealed in the script.”

Giving their invitations, Director Kim assures that If You Wish Upon Me is for the whole family. Ji Chang Wook hopes the warm energy seeps into the hearts of the viewers.

Sooyoung attests to the synchrony of the characters as Won Ji An emphasizes “the process of healing pain with Team Genie is one of the highlights of the series.
