KBS2 TV has tapped talented actors Kim Rowoon and Cho Yi Hyun in the new Monday-Tuesday drama, The Wedding Battle.
Predicting a revolutionary concept in historical drama with its romantic comedy elements, the series is due to broadcast in October.
The Wedding Battle 혼례대첩 (LT) is a comic melodrama about a struggling matchmaker. Set in the Joseon era, an old maid and an old bachelor work together in a grand wedding operation.
In the drama, Hanyang’s most resentful man, Shim Jung-woo, and Jeong Seon-deok, a widow who lives a double life, will join forces. They are set to present Joseon era’s version of Love Actually in which they marry single people Joseon.
Accordingly, The Wedding Battle is written by Ha Su-jin, who showed the power of novel material and superb narrative through Sell Your Haunted House. Steering the production is director Hwang Seung-ki who showed off his delicate directing skills in Memorials, Justice, and Review Notebook of My Embarrassing Days.
The collaboration aims for a unique drama that breaks the ‘prejudice of love’ by completing witty and pleasant characters in a story that will showcase beautiful visual beauty.
In this regard, Rowoon and Cho Yi-hyeon are attracting attention by predicting an interesting transformation as Joseon matchmakers in The Wedding Battle.
Joseon’s Matchmakers
Rowoon will appear as Shim Jung-woo, with almost perfect specs possessing a brilliant brain and a handsome face.
As the youngest person to pass the state exam, he, unfortunately, cannot work in the government. That is because he was picked to marry a Joseon princess, but she suddenly died on their wedding day. In Joseon culture, he wouldn’t be able to secure a government post and also marry again.
Challenging his latest role, Rowoon is set to prove his superior stature and visual charm. He will also show the unimaginable tenacity of a ‘professional nitpicker’ dedicated to supporting marriage annulment appeals. His innate talkativeness, energy, and wit hint at a lively character worth anticipating.
Taking the role of Jeong Seon-deok, an efficient matchmaker who lives a double life is Cho Yi Hyun. Seon-deok is officially the second daughter-in-law of an elite Joseon family, but unofficially, she is living a double life as the best matchmaker in Hanyang.
Predicting an extraordinary romcom-historical drama, Cho Yi Hyun gears up for her character’s eccentricity, liveliness, and humor. She is the mysterious matchmaker who succeeds in her job with the knowledge gained through love novels and Sherlock-level analytical prowess.
Along with that, she keeps the elegance unique to a nobleman’s daughter-in-law thereby presenting a unique picture of K-Drama female lead.
The Wedding Battle will be broadcast for the first time in October 2023.
