Alchemy of Souls Episode 19 Highlights
Trapped inside the realm created by the ice stone, the sons and daughters of the elite mage families separate from their clans. After regaining her power, Mu-deok slays the rampaging soul shifter and succumbs to trusting Wook’s plan for their future.
“To protect what we must, one must sometimes choose to let go of everything.”
In a flashback, the incident that caused Bu-yeon’s separation from her family is disclosed. Together with her father and Jin Mu, she was able to track where the ice stone is but was pushed to the waters and she ended up losing her memory when she was found by a grandmother from Sari village who took her as her own.
With a father from the lineage of the disgraced Choi family who first used “alchemy of souls” and a mother from the prestigious Jinyowon clan of acknowledged divination powers, Bu-yeon’s immense power is unstoppable.
Back at the meeting of the united mage families and the royal family; Jin Mu asserts Wook’s claim that the answer is in Master Seo’s poetry book. But Master Park convinces the King by letting him read the text written in the book.
Master Park asserts how Master Seo’s one true love Jin Seol-ran opted not to use the ice stone for the greater good.
With a similar predicament, Mu-deok who learns from Bu-yeon what the power of ice stone entails opts not to use its power. Wook also comes up with a plan to use “tansu” albeit giving up his energy to break the barrier caused by the ice stone.
Against Mu-deok’s woes, he insists that they have to do it since Yul’s situation is getting bleaker and he has sacrificed enough to hide her identity.
“The King’s star appeared and the barrier surrounding Jeongjingak is gone.”
Dang-gu and Cho-yeon go to Gaema village and stumble on the truth about Master Choi’s scheme with Jin Mu and his sister. Dang-gu confesses to his uncle what they found out about what happened to the real queen.
Master Park announces the discovery which alarmed Shaman Choi who is hosting in the Queen’s body. Earlier her talk with Jin Mu also hinted at their ties getting severed. Knowing Shaman Choi is trapped Jin Mu denounced their alliance.
Making a futile attempt to save herself, Shaman Choi cast a spell but was ultimately killed by Master Park. The spell hits Jang Gang who finally apologized for the trouble he caused.
Using sorcery, he offers his death to make up for what Kingdom has been facing. Before taking his own life, he also insists that Jang Wook is not his son to save him from being branded as a sinner’s son.
At that same moment, Wook proceeds with his plan to break the barrier and sees an epiphany where he gets hold of the ice stone. Unknown to him, as he holds the ice stone, the King’s star appears in the sky and the barrier surrounding Jeongjingak also vanished.
“I know you gave up the chance to regain your energy and I also gave up the energy I struggled to get. Instead, I now have someone precious that I wish to keep by my side forever. I do not wish to be used and discarded. I wish to protect and cherish you. Marry me, Mu-deok.”
Checking on the young mages that were trapped, the elder mages thought the owner of the King’s star is Prince Won. But Master Park knows that Wook was born under the energy of the King’s star.
Mu-deok meets Yul who has recuperated well and thanks him for everything that he did for her. She also tells him that she can’t help him anymore to bring the person he wants to Seoho fortress.
Understanding both that the fondness they shared towards each other when they were young can no longer continue, Mu-deok tells him to take his medicines well no matter how bitter it could be.
Acknowledging her concern, Yul bravely declares that he will be well not just physically, but emotionally by letting go of the love he has for her.
Meanwhile, Master Park affirms his suspicion of Wook’s noble birth through the box presented by Maidservant Kim that was given by Jang Gang.
At that same moment, Prince Won finds Jin Mu hiding at Cheonbugwan. The latter intends to poison the mind of the prince.
Finding his master clad in a pretty wedding dress, Wook officially quits being his student and proposes a relationship that would never end.
Mu-deok beams replying to Wook’s proposal of marrying him.
Alchemy of Souls Episode 19 Musings
The answer to whose soul will remain inside Mu-deok, since she has Naksu and Bu-yeon inside will be answered in the final episode of Alchemy of Souls. From its first episode, this Hong sisters penned series treated us to spectacular imaginative worldbuilding.
Now we wait for the final answers to the theories we had since conceived about the intricate world of the mages, priestesses and royalty of the Kingdom of Daeho.
As Master Lee explains, the bearer of the King’s star holds the power to control the heavens, which makes Wook the sole person who can possibly use the ice stone. Did he really lose his energy or would the twist being prepared ultimately save the love of his life?
When Yul’s life is in danger, against the advice of giving him the blood, So-yi thinking her blood has been altered with the magical power of the Jin family poured her blood on his wound. Hopefully, this will not cause an issue for Yul.
Another noteworthy sacrifice for choosing to protect his family, the redeeming moment of Master Choi also explains the harbored doubt about his daughter Bu-yeon. This poses the question of whether Bu-yeon’s life is just borrowed since she lived because of the power of ice stone.
Preparing for his final attempt to wreak evil, Jin Mu will use Prince Won’s insecurity to draw a wedge that would cause problems with the mages’ allied families and the royal family.
