Alchemy of Souls

Alchemy of Souls Episode 7 Highlights

Previously in Alchemy of Souls, Mu-deok is brought to Jin’s residence by Cho-yeon. After hearing about Wook’s closeness with Mu-deok, her jealousy pushed her to ploy an evil deed.

Opening the episode, Master Kim chronicles a relentless drought that once happened in Daeho to children while on board a boat.

That event happened 200 years ago. Summoning their strength, the mages performed a ritual and hailstones pour out from the sky.

But one hailstone did not melt and goes into different cycles, producing dangerous elements that were used to eject the souls of people who underwent “alchemy of souls”.

Unfortunately, it brought chaos as mages battled each other leaving Daeho in a living hell. Finally, Master Seo Gyeong, the founder of Songrim, sealed the ice stone

When he finished his story, he noticed an evil-possessed relic which he obliterated to pieces right away.

“Are you also looking for Mu-deok?”

While drinking alone, Mu-deok suddenly appears in front of Prince Won. Thanks to his knowledge that Mu-deok hates cinnamon, he quickly deduced an evil spirit has entered his room, pretending to be her.

He goes to Jin family residence to look for Mu-deok. Cho-yeon explains she’s missing after running away and taking the precious yin-yang jade of their family.

Baffled at how Mu-deok who is usually feisty would run away, their conversation gets interrupted upon the arrival of Yul and Dang-gu.

Apparently, Yul also experienced the same illusion experienced by the prince. Subsequently, Wook arrives to apologize for his maid’s misdeed. He also requests to search for her and asks to seek if she could be at Jinyowon where relics possessed by the evil mage magic resides.

“Why are you worried when I was the one who broke it?”

Meanwhile, Mu-deok is trapped inside the mirror found in Jinyowon.

Knowing Cho-yeon’s ruse for her to take the blame on the broken jade, she reveals the curse to happen when someone breaks it.

That someone will not have a happy and long marriage. Taking advantage of being left alone, Mu-deok escapes the room and stumbles on Jinyowon.

Upon touching the door, it magically opened. From a distance, Cho-yeon is bewildered at how she opened the door. Then, she makes a greedy decision to trap her inside.

Unfortunately, Mu-deok touched the mirror which led her to be caged inside it.

Wook, Yul and Prince Won realize that she was sucked in inside the Mirror of Longing. As explained by Madame Jin, it shows illusions of things that people long for.

“I found you. I thought about it after I heard about my marriage.  I bet you thought about how I have a way out and thinking how you will fend for yourself made you feel lost. But now that you are not here. I feel just as lost. I miss you Mu-deok.”

Outside the door of Jinyowon, Yul pleads to take the mirror out. Even when Prince Won orders it, Madame Jin used her family’s immunity to the order.

Maidservant Kim also arrives with Master Park. Still, Madame Jin remains unfazed, refusing to let him inside.

Thankfully, Wook figures out that the mirror won’t work if there’s no reflection of a person. He covers it with a black cloth.

It breaks the reflections trapping Mu-deok inside and they were able to communicate from each other’s sides.

Confessing his plans to keep her by his side, Wook acknowledges her woes about what she can do when he gets married. Admitting, that he also feels lost without her by his side, he professed how he missed her.

Simultaneously, they place their hands on the sides of the mirror and a bright light shone. Just when Yul is about to check on Wook, the door opens with his friend carrying Mu-deok on his back.

I do not care what you stay as. I only wish for one thing. That is for you to be safe.”

Cho-yeon faces the repercussions of her lies. Both Master Park and Prince Won agree to let the incident slide.

Meanwhile, Mu-deok can’t open her eyes so Maidservant Kim got a piece of cloth to cover it. Hearing the voices of the young masters and the prince, Maidservant Kim tells her to thank them for worrying about her.

Yul offers to bring Mu-deok to the infirmary, but Prince Won declares to bring her to the palace. In the end, Wook takes her hand and remarks they will go home.

At Jang family residence, Master Park calls out Wook’s risky move of entering Jinyowon. Unable to understand his intention, Wook complains about the excessive pressure put on him when he’s not Jang Gang’s son, to begin with.

Master Park responds he’s only doing what he can for him to be safe. To that, Wook replies he will find who he is and will lead his life as his own.

Jin Mu visits Madame Jin about the marriage talk with Jang family and proposes to have Cho-yeon marry the crown prince.

He assures her that he will look for her lost daughter, Bu-yeon, who is the rightful heiress as the leader of the family.

“Jang Wook, this is where we say goodbye. I will return to where I came from”

Dang-gu and Yul see the betrothal gifts for Jin family arrive, and one bird flees from its cage when the carriage hit a road hole. The bird flies to a sound coming from a wooden flute played by Mu-deok.

Yul, who witnessed it, finally realized that Nak-su’s soul moved to Mu-deok’s body. Sensing someone keeps following her, Kil-ju appears and confronts her about her identity.

To spare her life, Kil-ju asked her to bring Wook to a designated place. Unaware of the deal his master had, Wook happily gives Mu-deok a gift to honor the bond and loyalty they share.

Mu-deok then confesses that she will return to her guild since they had learned of their secret. She also reasons that it will help her regain her energy.

Insisting he will help her regain her power, Mu-deok coldly remarks that their being together will lead to his death and her secret being revealed.

Yul learns from Master Heo the truth about Naksu’s father’s death at the hands of the four families was because he was a shapeshifter. About to reveal what he found out about Mu-deok, he hesitated.

Meanwhile, Master Park confronts Jin Mu about Naksu’s soul-shifter father and gets a realization that the villain knew all along about the King star that appeared on the day Wook was born.

Swayed by her student’s loyalty talk and gift, Mu-deok loops Wook into her encounter with Kil-ju. They both devise a plan to obliterate Kil-ju since he has not revealed yet Naksu’s secret.

Utilizing the rain to make a successful attack with his unruly but powerful hand, Wook made a critical hit. Just then, Kil-ju unleashes the “alchemy of souls”.

Alchemy of Souls Episode 7 Musings

What a cliffhanger!

Hong sisters have been amazing us with the clear and beautiful narrative of Alchemy of Souls.

This episode unlocks details about Mu-deok’s identity. We can assume that Naksu’s great soul complemented hers when the soul-shifting happened.

It was not explained how two souls can occupy one body through the “alchemy of souls”. Typical soul-shifting involves two bodies like in the case of Jang Gang and the king.

Mu-deok and Nak-su’s case is quite special since two souls are inhabiting one body.

Also, we can assume it’s possible that if both souls are great, they could achieve a state of equilibrium. A powerful one at that.

On that note, there was a scene when both Naksu and Mu-deok’s souls appear staring at each other while seemingly in oblivion.

Thus, we can deduce there’s an underlying reason why their souls merge inside Mu-deok’s body.

Though the thrilling waning moments overpower the romance underlined this episode, more of the love stories shaping are soon going to be more palpable.

And yes, we are getting the best of the fantasy and romance storytelling in this series!

Alchemy of Souls

We got a tip from the evil spirit at Jinyowon. They seem to recognize Mu-deok and call her “the blind girl”. Could it be that she is Bu-yeon?

Another revelation we got is the side of Daeho’s Four Great families on why they had to kill Naksu’s father.

Master Kim’s suspicion of how the ice stone was unsealed rings to be true and would ripple the succeeding culminating moments we can’t wait to see in the story.

From the looks of it, the next episode is set to bring us more thrilling moments. If Kil-ju successfully completed the “alchemy of souls” – will Wook endure that plight?

Witness an energizing and magical story in Alchemy of Souls every Saturday and Sunday. International fans can watch it on Netflix.
