Alchemy of Souls Episode 14 Highlights

Jang Wook finally got a response from his love declaration in the last episode of Alchemy of Souls. Echoing the same adoration, Yul worries about his friend with recent readings of the incidents in Daeho.

Both Wook and Yul assess the ice stone as something that can save Mu-deok. Tension keeps growing between Master Park and Jin Mu as the latter was advised by the Queen to probe deeper on Jang Wook.

Facing the last battle in the duels assigned by Prince Won, Wook faces his friend Yul. What’s at stake as a prize is not a golden toad anymore, but Mu-deok.

“We act that way because we don’t know how they will use their terrifying powers. If we need to get rid of that power. I will do it with my own hands.”

In separate conversions, Master Park tries to get details about Wook’s master from Master Lee. Worried that Wook might aspire for greatness that would be uncontrollable, Master Lee acknowledges his woes. He expresses the intention that if things go awry, he will take responsibility for it.

The same goal to pry on Wook’s master is being done by Jin Mu from Prince Won. The latter also realized the odd mutual care he witnessed from the two before.

Even Yul and Dang-gu also talk about the strange obedience of their friend to Mu-deok. Yul deduced Wook’s intention to retrieve the ice stone to protect Mu-deok.

“If he and I shared feelings worth betting my life on, losing that will not affect the feelings we have toward each other.”

Before the last duel, Prince Won meets Mu-deok and confronts how she took him for a fool by using his gold to train her master. Responding to how the jade stone means nothing to her since they don’t need an object to prove their intimate feelings, Prince Won throws it at the nearby pond.

Seeing Mu-deok’s uncaring reaction, he declares that for the last duel, she will be placing herself as the bet. Keen to make Wook lose the fight, Prince Won interviews his last opponent who can’t commit to defeating Wook. Suggesting Yul as the only mage who can win no matter what, the prince summoned him, and he agrees after learning the winner of the duel will get Mu-deok as his maid.

On the day of the duel, Wook gets a surprise with his friend Yul stepping in as the final competitor. Although beaten by Yul, Wook announces his ability to master “chisu” as well as his uncanny prowess in mastering the fighting techniques from his previous duels. His best friends Dang-gu and Yul are both elated with his newfound ability, but his eyes keep searching for Mu-deok.

Meanwhile, Mu-deok meets Prince Won who formalized she will be serving Yul moving forward. At Master Heo’s clinic, the old man is also happy to discover a mage prodigy. Checking on Wook after hearing his recent feat, Master Park thought his foster son already fathomed his fear.

But it turns out the “family matter” he was talking about is how Master Lee is frequenting their residence for Maidservant Kim.

“Be afraid. Betray me or get your cover blown and you will suffer the same fate.”

So-yi’s preparations to enter the Jin household are in full swing. Cho-yeon’s father even gets a magical strand from her and Jin Mu scares her of how death is her fate if she betrays him.

Master Park orders his right hand to check about Mu-deok and how she got acquainted with Wook. Meanwhile, Yun-ok who is giving herbal medicine treatment to the King suggests consulting Master Lee to appease his worried heart because of the news of sthe oul-shifter entering the palace.

Denying Master Heo’s claim about Maidservant Kim’s heart state, Master Park goes to Jang residence and sees Master Lee’s pair of shoes. He presumes the flowers also came from the senior mage and opts to leave.

Inside the house, Master Lee wins Maidservant Kim’s heart by showcasing his magic skills by turning the wilted flowers he bought last time back to life.

“I must find it. I need to find it by tonight. Only then can I see him without feeling ashamed.”

Hurrying to see Mu-deok, Wook and Dang-gu see a romantic view of them taming Yul’s pet bird. Heaving a big sigh, Wook walks away confused about her actions of losing the jade stone.

At night, Mu-deok goes to the pond where Prince Won threw the jade stone to look for it. She wants to have it first before meeting Wook. The next day, she finds Prince Won ordering his eunuch to find the stone which she proudly flaunts. Trying to get it back from her, she argues that it’s hers again since he threw it away.

Their conversation gets cut off when Jeongjingak bullies came to tell Prince Won that Master Lee is at Sejukwon. The trio of bullies loves badmouthing Wook and when they see Mu-deok they proceed with their favorite hobby.

Dauntless Mu-deok blurts they are all despicable and obnoxious which infuriates them. Demanding her to say it again, she refuses since she already assessed danger. When the leader asked again, Prince Won rescues her and tells her to respond.

Taking the opportunity, she shouts it loud and leaves when Prince Won ordered her to do so. In front of the bullies, he announced that she cannot be bullied by anyone in Daeho. Lecturing the three rude mages not to be foolish in making a powerful enemy because of jealousy, he also gave his recently learned knowledge of how to remove an ink stain.

“Understanding you is much harder than controlling Lake Gyeongcheondaeho’s energy.”

Mu-deok goes to Sejukwon to look for Wook but finds him not there. He is chatting with Yun-ok who asks if he can join the dinner invitation by Maidservant Kim.

Realizing Mu-deok has long made a move on him, he felt inwardly happy. From afar, Mu-deok witnessed a happy interaction between Wook and Yun-ok when she got flustered by a bug.

Noticing her presence, Mu-deok moves closer to them with a pout on her face. As soon as Yun-ok leaves them, Wook checks on her after noticing her tired-looking face. Blabbing about the gossip that he is Master Lee’s secret student, he tries to prove he’s not by embracing her.

Jealousy erupts inside Mu-deok’s heart and tells him to embrace Yun-ok instead. Knowing best how to thaw her annoyed heart, Wook plants a sweet kiss on her lips. Smartly quipping how he just attacked per her instruction to do it at a point when someone least expects it, he made a point that he has followed her teachings as his master.

He confronts her about his discovery of how she held him back so as not to meet Yun-ok last time, but she gives an alibi of not remembering it. Amused at her strange way of showing affection, he loops her in of his activity of visiting the palace.

As he walks away, Mu-deok shows her blue jade telling him she found it. Motioning to inch closer to her again, Wook halts as Mu-deok whisked away.

“Everything about you has been exposed by this man.”

As Master Lee and company head to the palace, the broker from Sari village enters Songrim. Summoned by Master Kim, Mu-deok was thankfully saved by the broker who hid her identity as well.

However, Master Park deems that something does not add up with the meeting of Mu-deok and the broker who sold her to the gisaeng house. At that same moment, Mu-deok ponders about the warning she got from Juwol not to trust So-yi. She goes to where the broker stays and finds him dead. Just then, Master Park enters the room and points his sword at Mu-deok suspecting she killed the man.

At the palace, Master Lee makes a shocking revelation that he is a soul shifter. He also confesses that a soul shifter can detect another soul-shifter sending a secret message to the Queen that he knows what she is.

Simultaneously, Wook and Yul realize that Master Lee knows Mu-deok is a soul shifter.

Alchemy of Souls Episode 14 Musings

Soul-shifters are lurking everywhere in Daeho as reflected in this episode of Alchemy of Souls. Accordingly, the evil force led by Jin Mu and the Queen might have already been strong in numbers agreeing to Master Park’s thought that each family in the kingdom might be housing one.

The truth about Mu-deok is also getting closer to being exposed. Regardless if it is Master Park or Jin Mu who gets to know it first, she will be in jeopardy. Threatened by Jin-mu, we wonder if So-yi will give her name and goes into another precarious situation. On the bright side, Mu-deok has allies and men willing to protect her.

I saw in the preview that the man I wanted to answer a lot of questions about is set to finally make his appearance. It’s about time I say since a looming war is inevitable.

This week’s episodes marked key details that we should remember when the concluding chapter arrives especially the part when Yul made a request to both Wook and Mu-deok.

Master Lee’s revelation that he is a soul-shifter is a game changer. In a way it will cushion the weight of Mu-deok’s woes should her cover get blown.

Still superbly mixing its thrilling elements with light notes, the narrative of Alchemy of Souls sprints to an impeccable showcase. It seems it will go all the way down to the final week which is three weeks away.

Witness an energizing and magical story every Saturday and Sunday in Alchemy of Souls. International fans can watch it on Netflix!
