Alchemy of Souls

Alchemy of Souls Episode 6 Highlights

Mu-deok plans to train Wook in the last episode of Alchemy of Souls. But they end up meeting legendary mage, Master Kim, who is also Master Heo’s old master.

Meanwhile, Kil-ju becomes suspicious of Mu-deok but she was thankfully rescued by Crown Prince Won. Tricking Kil-ju, Master Kim brings the petrified human with him to Songrim.

“I could not stop her from leaving. I could not ask her why. The moment she sliced my sincerity in half, I could no longer cherish our memories together.”

A flashback from the past reveals young Naksu threatening young Seo Yul not to visit the place anymore. In the present time, Yul stands in front of where he had his last encounter with Naksu. His reverie gets cut when Mu-deok arrives with a bird catch she intends to cook for breakfast.

Initially acting cold, Yul finds himself playing Mu-deok’s kitchen assistant. However, cooking rice and cutting vegetables seem to be not part of the young master’s genius skills.

From afar, Dang-gu and Wook observe – and Mu-deok’s real student is not liking the idea of sharing his master while Dang-gu revels in what he’s witnessing.

Finding his master washing the dishes, Wook whines because she’s doing it instead of her newfound kitchen assistant. He feels cheated when he’s supposed to be her one and only student.

Surprised at how possessive Wook is, Mu-deok promises that he is her one and only student when he kept insisting.

The two join Yul and Dang-gu stare at the big tree from Yul’s memory. It was how Naksu saw the injured Yul when they were young. When Yul offered to bring Mu-deok on top of the tree, she refused since she did not want to climb a special tree with just anyone.

“She does not look at us the way she looks at him.”

Packing up to go back to Songrim, Wook walked Dang-gu and agreed for him to take Jang Gang’s sword. When Dang-gu noticed Yul and Mu-deok talking, he points out how Mu-deok looks at Yul differently from how she looks at them.

Wook’s friends relay what happened at the meeting and respond he is going with his usual recklessness when Yul conveyed Master Park’s question if he’s doing what he’s been told to do.

He also claims back the sword with an excuse that he’s going to catch a pheasant with Mu-deok. When he sees his master, Mu-deok throws harsh words at his situation. While she expects him to get motivated, he acts otherwise, declaring he needs a warm bath.

After reporting to Master Park, Dang-gu and Yul were excused. Later, Yul confessed to knowing Naksu when he was young. But he is not that acquainted with her. He also shares how in passing Naksu revealed that her father is probably a constellation recorder from Cheonbugwan.

“I understand that I’m quick to learn. But mastering Tansu is pushing it.”

Mu-deok explains that he has to master Tansu to defeat the Crown Prince and come out alive. Making the most of what limited skills Wook has, Mu-deok deduced that his strong arm would wield a fighting chance for him on the day of the duel. Wook perseveres with the training day in and day out.

From afar Master Kim curiously fathoms the situation the two have. Learning his arm could explode from the amount of energy being expelled, Wook confronts why Mu-deok lied to her and calls her cruel.

He also mentions why she did not dodge the sword when his hand went berserk earlier. Their interaction leads to Wook mischievously flicking her forehead.

“You should not provoke me when we are this close. You don’t think I won’t do something from this distance.”

At a close distance, Wook noticed her eyes don’t turn blue anymore and praised them for being pretty. Teasing her stoic reaction to being physically close to him, Mu-deok did not back out and rides his ruse with some provocative words.

Inching closer, she tells him she’s not naive and can teach him a thing or two. She suddenly pokes his eyes and leaves him a lesson to attack his enemy when he least expects it.

Meanwhile, at the palace, Jin Mu urges Prince Won to eliminate Wook to obliterate his inferiority for being born with a normal star. His master adds that he needs to obliterate his fears when he’s given a chance.

At the breakfast table, Master Kim shares the viral gossip happening at Songrim. Wook who was not aware of his upcoming wedding gripes about his fate with Mu-deok.

Cho-yeon, on the other hand, visits Dang-gu for the item she ordered and for him to check the fragrant love letter she wrote for Wook. He lectures her to inform Wook first and agrees to bring the letter when he becomes despondent. Dang-gu also agrees to lend his hand to fit the wedding ring meant for Wook.

Mu-deok accompanies Wook to settle the wedding talk that he was not aware of. She subtly warns him that she will go home if he will not pick her up after hinting that she does not want to stay as his maid forever.

“So, it is true that getting married will save his life.”

Before reaching the gisaeng house, Mu-deok was dragged to the palace and was dressed up prettily surprising Prince Won. He tells her to inform her master to not go to the duel and just proceed with the wedding plans with Cho-yeon. Prince Won also offers to take her in if Wook will not bring her once he gets married.

At the gisaeng house, Cho-yeon consults the head gisaeng for the wedding ring design. But when she sees the stone broken, she realized how she accidentally broke it. When she heard from the head gisaeng how close Mu-deok is with Wook; Cho-yeon approached her and demands she serves her as well.

After touching the box, Mu-deok sees the broken stone inside and politely refuses to do Cho-yeon’s bidding. But when she sees Kil-ju, she uses Cho-yeon to escape a possible encounter with Kil-ju.

Reaching the Jin family’s abode, Mu-deok sees a cryptic vision while the birds and enchantments in the estate behave uncharacteristically.

Back at Jang’s residence, Wook speaks with Maidservant Kim about canceling the marriage talk. Denying he’s not in love with someone, he affirms that he has someone who is alone that he needs to protect.

Wook also asks his second mom if she knows who his father is, and gets a reply that he is Jang Gang’s son.

Determined to live with that identity that he believes to be his all his life, Wook tells her not to stop him from the choices he will make.

However, their conversation gets interrupted when he was summoned to the Jin family’s residence. Apparently, Mu-deok vanished with a precious yin-and-yang jade of the Jin family.

Alchemy of Souls Episode 6 Musings

Faint romance is in the air for the heirs of Songrim’s elite families in the latest episode of Alchemy of Souls. From unrequited to unrealized; these emotions would make an impact on how the series proceeds.

Cho-yeon is probably the only person clueless about Dang-gu’s adoration for her. Yul seems to have kept Naksu in the deepest part of his heart.

Inevitably, once he learns of Mu-deok’s real identity, it would be interesting to watch if he will be braver for her this time around.

We’ve got to give it to Mu-deok for being the luckiest girl in K-Dramaland. Doted by mage young masters and the crown prince, the connections she’s been making complicate the projected conflict.

At the same time, it also serves as an advantage for her depending on how she’s going to efficiently play the lucky cards she has on her hands.

While dark theme envelops the narrative of this series, the attention to making the characters flawed but not remorseless has been cushioning well the unwanted drama that might ruin the magic of the story.

The preview for next week’s episodes as expected put us on a sudden patience test. What will happen to Mu-deok after getting trapped inside that magical mirror? Will Yul finally recognize Mu-deok?

Will Wook defy Master Park’s order and live the life he wants? Also, I got excited about meeting Master Kim, will he play a deeper role other than selling herbs? With that, we mean training Wook or solving the curious case of Naksu.

Witness an energizing and magical story in Alchemy of Souls every Saturday and Sunday. International fans can watch it on Netflix.
