Knight Flower Episodes 7 and 8 Highlights

“I will keep my eye on you. If you once again jump the walls of the Left State Councillor’s residence, I will go through its front gate.”

Soo-ho promises to keep Yeo-hwa’s secret, but on one condition: she has to stay within his sight and not do anything reckless by herself. What? Does he expect her to stay stuck at home all day? Yeo-hwa whines about it for a bit. Yet, she has no choice but to follow through with Soo-ho’s words.

She almost gets a heart attack though, when she spots Soo-ho and Yoon-hak at her house, assuming Soo-ho is there to snitch on her. Soo-ho’s snooping around has got him on Seok’s radar. Thus, he invites the two brothers over to check if there is anything he can hold over them. It looks like Soo-ho’s real identity might be revealed soon.

“However hard I try to think, memories of that night remain faded. It hurts me, Yoon-hak.”

Given how things have come to this, the king deduces it is time to meet Soo-ho and let him in on the investigation he has been conducting, along with Yoon-hak, regarding the incident from 15 years ago. Soo-ho already suspects Lady Oh of murdering her husband using the petals. But he hesitates to do anything lest Yeo-hwa get in danger for helping the servant escape. Now that he has learned of the scheme from the past, Soo-ho settles on uncovering the truth, no matter what.

“If I cannot survive. I shall accept death. But to think carefully, I made a heavy contribution 15 years ago.”

It just so happens that our resident villains are experiencing a rift. Aware of what Lady Oh did, Seok wants her out of the capital. Yet, she isn’t one to be kicked out without a fight. She sows some seeds of doubt inside Yeo-hwa that Seok might be on to what happened to her brother but is covering it up on purpose. (Seok had Pil-jik kill Yeo-hwa’s brother and snatched away the late king’s jade tablet from him.)

Seeing how Yeo-hwa is no longer convinced by Seok’s vague answers regarding her brother, Seok figures Lady Oh is behind it. At that rate, Seok might want Lady Oh dead. On her part, she agrees to shut up her mouth and not get in Seok’s way if he lets her stay in her house, enjoying the privileges she had while her husband was alive.

“If you don’t go into detail, I will not tell you anything either.”

Pil-jik’s investigation into Soo-ho leads him to the possibility of Soo-ho being the son of the royal guards’ head Pil-jik supposedly annihilated 15 years ago, along with his family. Spotting the scar on Soo-ho’s back, Pil-jik becomes certain Soo-ho is that boy.

Pil-jik tries to finish what he couldn’t accomplish back then. But Yeo-hwa, who happens to be there, jumps to rescue and saves Soo-ho. These two should share intel already if they want to protect each other better. Concerned for Yeo-hwa, Soo-ho refuses to tell her anything. Likewise, Yeo-hwa refuses to be the only one reporting to him while left in the dark.

As if things aren’t messy enough, we end this week with a cliffhanger. Yoon-hak tries to meet Yeo-hwa to ask about her brother. She shows up in her black-clad disguise and points a sword at Yoon-hak’s neck. Soo-ho also joins them and points his unsheathed sword at Yeo-hwa. What a crazy situation!

“She will be my wife, not your daughter-in-law. I will spend my life with her, so please do not say anything on the matter.”

Meanwhile, a new player shares much in common with Yeo-hwa’s husband shows up in the market. And yeah, it is indeed Yeo-hwa’s husband, Seok Jeong, who isn’t dead after all. Not willing to have his family ruined when Jeong made up his mind to marry a foreign lady, Seok told Jeong to live as if he were dead and not come back to Joseon.

After that, Seok got Jeong betrothed to Yeo-hwa and made it seem Jeong died in an accident on his way from Qing. That marriage helped Seok kill two birds with one stone, tying Yeo-hwa’s hands so she wouldn’t investigate her brother’s disappearance and nipping the commotion that might happen because of his son in the bud. What a cruel man!

It is one thing to hear you got married and are now dead from ladies in the market. But it hits harder when your so-called father is behind it all. Yeo-hwa’s mother-in-law genuinely believes her son is dead. So, I wonder what will happen when she learns the truth.

Knight Flower Episodes 7 and 8 Musings

I appreciate how the show keeps its humor and light tome amidst all these schemes. Having Yeo-hwa’s husband turn out to be alive is one plot twist I didn’t see coming. I had my guesses when Jeong was first introduced. Still, this is one crazy and refreshing idea.

It was hilarious watching Soo-ho hide Yeo-hwa in his arms to prevent Jeong from spotting them together, all while none of them knew about their connection. And for sure, it isn’t common to hit on a woman you just met and then learn she is your supposed wife.

Also, it was funny watching Yoon-hak getting the wrong idea about Yeon-sun having a crush on Soo-ho and feeling jealous. Not to mention Yeon-sun’s imagined version of Yoon-hak coming to her rescue and dropping his fan. More of these cute couple moments and fewer schemes, please, writer-nim.

Enjoy the adventurous life of Yeo-hwa and Soo-ho in Knight Flower
