The First Responders Episodes 5 Highlights
“He’s not the type who’d normally ask for help. Never.”
Working on a case, Ho-gae connives with ex-convicts and gets led to a murder plot involving a woman. While following the orders of the crime operation leader, Ho-gae deduced the whole floor where the room of the researchers will be bombed.
Fortunately, he left an SOS message when he saw Seol at a grocery store. Do-jin also asked Anna for details to fathom the sting operation Jindo dog is doing. It actually involves the case Anna is also doing. They are working to pin down a ruthless crime lending organization and she’s trying to authenticate documents at the research facility.
The crime lending organization tasked a middleman to form a team to kill her. Ho-gae is in a separate investigation that connects to evil businessman Ma Tae-hwa.
Buying time for the crime operation, Ho-gae uses the 14 people in the building as leverage to raise the initial money stake agreed upon. The middleman calling the shots refuses to kill just the target and insists on making the building explode to make it look like a disaster.
Unfortunately, he also catches on Ho-gae’s pretension through his clean teeth and makes him join the supposed people that will become fire victims. Sensing danger, Do-jin tells his sister to get out of the room, but it was already locked from the outside.
Managing to free himself, Ho-gae is locked in a separate room and communicates with Anna the details he knew about the explosion. Anna decides to hack a system that would prevent the explosion from happening. However, the middleman has a backup plan. He has a detonator that would trigger an explosion through the water sprinkler.
Ho-gae goes to the basement to stop the water sprinkler from activating and halts the explosion midway. Do-jin rushes to save his younger sister as well.
“You must not have known that A4 paper ingredients differ each year.”
Continuing the halted rescue mission, Anna insisted on taking the paperwork needed to the trial before getting medical treatment. But the middleman still attempts to stop them by hitting the ambulance where Anna and Seol are riding.
Engaging in a physical tussle, Ho-gae gets help from the ladies and was able to reach the courtroom in time to bear crucial testimony to make the evil loan shark pay for his crime. Explaining how A4 paper has different components when produced each year.
After her testimony, Anna joins the team for recovery and munch some yummy food bought by Pil. Later, Do-jin also talks to his senior and apologized for not agreeing to her initial order during the operation when they were asked to pull out. He explains that the first mission he had was a failure. Since then, he vowed to be the “first in last out” man in the subsequent operations.
His superior accepts his apology and also relays how she also feels the same. She shares the same passion he had and appreciates that he survived the ordeal earlier.
The First Responders Episodes 5 Musings
Interestingly, the pacing speed of The First Responders cushions the inserted fillers that do not matter in the featured story of each episode but could be key details to the ultimate conflict to be resolved in the story.
Irrelevantly, it sometimes adds confusion to the storytelling. But since it does not linger, it does not mar the excitement of the highlighted situation of the chapter.
Banking on its clever use of crime scenarios, we literally had a blast of science and technology lessons in this episode, to be honest. This continuing charming point of the series really drives the hooking potential since the cases presented so far are common but ingeniously presented.
A soft nudge on treating government workers who risked their lives on the line of their duties was also explicitly expressed. Watching The First Responders gives us an idea of how tough the work of the police and firefighters is in a joint operation. Being kind enough would at least provide encouragement to them, especially, when not all people can be in that risky line of work.
Ho-gae’s endgame with Ma Tae-hwa is developing clearly. It’s just a matter of time before they both exchange pivotal moves that would determine who will be the winner between them.
