The King’s Affection Episode 13 Key Moments
“You had to manage the hardships all by yourself. I apologize for not realizing sooner.”
Seeing Yi Hwi’s wound requiring an immediate attention, Ji-un tries to remove her robe but is quickly stopped when Yi Hwi insists on doing so herself. Yi Hwi delicately unveils her secret to Ji-un, showing that she is a woman.
After tending to Yi Hwi’s wound, the shocked Ji-un goes in search of firewood. However, Ji-un pauses for a moment to absorb the truth he ascertained from Yi Hwi’s revelation.
While gathering his thoughts, she joins him and tells him that she does not want to be alone. She consequently queries him about why he does not question her and that he presumably feels resentment for deceiving him.
Correspondingly, Ji-un admits he harbors resentment not toward Yi Hwi but toward himself. Considering she must manage all of the difficulties she encountered on her own. Ji-un then apologizes to Yi Hwi for not noticing it before.

“I will come home around sundown and cook you dinner with the fish that I catch.”
The following morning, Ji-un awakens with Yi Hwi in his arms. When she attempts to rise, he stops her because he wishes for them to stay close for a brief period.
While she acknowledges the wound is still sore, he promises her that she would be fine since he will be at her side.
Conversely, she informs him that being with her will make him a life-long fugitive. That is, Ji-un must cut ties with his family and acquaintances and also live in solitude.
Despite the fact that Yi Hwi’s life is intended to remain in the dark, Ji-un doesn’t mind what she says; after all, that’s the life he has dreamed of.
Once they leave the place, Ji-un will first look for a small house, ideally along the shore. He’ll need a fishing boat because he’ll be cooking Yi Hwi’s dinner with the fish he catches.
“Commander Yoon will have his limbs cut off, your eunuch and court lady will be beheaded and Jung Ji-un will be forced to become a government slave.”
On their way to the safe house, where they will be reunited with everyone else, Yi Hwi and Ji-un are strolling through the village together. However, as Ji-un steps away from Yi Hwi for a moment to purchase something, she is taken by Seok-jo’s men.
Returning to the palace and learning of the king’s death, Yi Hwi pays her respects during her father’s funeral. With her is Lord Sangheon.
When the Queen Dowager was on the brink of declining Lord Sangheon’s offer to allow the deposed prince to succeed the throne, she was surprised to discover from him that it was preferable to choose it rather than hand it over to those who committed treason.
Lord Sangheon accuses the Queen, Lord Changcheon, and Prince Jehyeon of poisoning the king and imprisons them.
After Yi Hwi learns that she must sit in the throne, she informs her grandfather that she is a deposed prince and that Jehyeon is eligible to succeed to the throne instead of her. However, Lord Sangheon threatens her that if she won’t be the king the price is the lives of Ji-un and her people.
This leaves Yi Hwi to protect them; she begs her grandfather to spare her friends and her people in exchange for her becoming the puppet king he has always desired.
The King’s Affection Episode 13 Musings
Even with the purest wish to live a normal life with Ji-un, Yi Hwi appears to be unable to do so, as Lord Sangheon intends to kill the king and uses Yi Hwi to assume the throne in his place.
Truly, episode 13 will make you feel a variety of emotions, from the sweet moments between Ji-un and Yi Hwi to the sense of vulnerability as Yi Hwi is once again forced to disguise herself and remain in the palace.
Unlike the frigid Yi Hwi who previously envied her half brother, she has transformed into the devoted half sibling of Prince Jehyeon, swearing to defend and save him when she visited him while imprisoned.
Moreover, viewers are hopeful that despite Yi Hwi’s new royal duties, she would not drive Ji-un away and will allow him to stay beside her and share her sorrows with him, as they mentioned and promised in this episode.
