The King's Affection

The King’s Affection Episode 4 Key Moments

“I will be your tutor starting from today. I am Royal Tutor Jung Ji-un.”

Witnessing his friends being brutally beaten to death, powerless Ji-un is obliged to comply with his father’s demand to save Yeong Ji and his sister. Ji-un must take a proper job at the palace. To save his trusted associates, he is inclined into becoming Crown Prince Yi Hwi’s tutor.

Hwi’s repeated attempts to avoid meeting Ji-un fail, as he is currently the tutor assigned to her by the King.

Additionally, she seeks to revoke Ji-un’s appointment. His Majesty, on the other hand, informs her that he was appointed by the Left State Councilor and that she is truly frustrating and foolish for her charges against Ji-un.

“That will never happen because he’ll end up resigning before anything happens.”

Conversing with Eunuch Hong and Court Lady Kim on the possibility of Ji-un discovering Yi Hwi’s true identity, she certainly remarks that will never happen since she will make him quit his job immediately.

To start her quest of pushing Ji-un to leave, she assigns him to transcribe two massive columns of books with footnotes.

Meanwhile, Ji-un, determined to remain strong until the Ming guests arrived and relieved him of his duties, worked on transcribing the books as Prince Yi Hwi instructed. Despite his other tutors’ cheery concerns, they told him that his current woes were only the beginning.

“Isn’t this a bowl for soup?”

Heading to the second attempt to get Ji-un to quit, the other tutors warned him that the Crown Prince intended to get him drunk and cause him to make mistakes.

During which Yi Hwi prepares a light meal and drinks to congratulate Ji-un on his new tutorship. Ji-un is still sober after the first few drinks. Even after Hwi switches the glass for soup bowls, Ji-un maintains his composure, much to the frustration of others around him.

“I will bet my life on it.”

As Prince Yi Hwi grows increasingly upset with her efforts to get Ji-un to resign, she decides to discontinue attending his lessons. Ji-un, on the other side, addressed Hwi about her wish to expel him.

She argues that whether she will continue to ignore him indefinitely or whether she will do everything possible to get him to renounce his place.

Ji-un continues to refuse to resign afterwhile, he proposes that they make a wager. If Ji-un loses the bet, he will quit in accordance with Hwi’s intentions. If he wins, she will be required to attend the lecture.

The prince must earn the highest grade possible on the upcoming exam given by all lecturers, including himself, to win this bet. His Majesty and members of the court will attend the session to ensure that Ji-un does not deliberately fail her.

Still refusing to consider the wager, despite the fact that Ji-un puts his life on the line. Yi Hwi points his arrow at him and shoots but misses, drawing everyone’s attention. Finally, she accepts his challenge as a result of Ji-un’s courage and persistence.

“No matter how great the cause is, it cannot be greater than people’s lives.”

On the exam day, Ji-un asks her whether she has figured out the seeds he has given her. Hwi answers that those are lotus seeds. He responded that she is correct, and then inquired as to why he gave her the seed.

Responding wholeheartedly to Ji-un’s question, it garners approval from the entire room. Unfortunately, that was not the answer he sought, and Ji-un fails student Yi Hwi.

Thereafter, Ji-un emphasizes that he gave her the seed because he wanted her to be a strong King. Even if the palace is covered in dirt, he believes that Yi Hwi would be reminded that whatever the greater purpose, it cannot be greater than endangering the lives of innocent people.

He also hopes that Hwi will take a lesson from the lotus flower and retain the virtue that will enable her to see clearly and make solid judgments even in the mud.

The King’s Affection Episode 4 Musings

Having opposite feelings for one another under various conditions indicates how The King’s Affection becomes more complicated, as with the fated couple’s lives. For instance, Yi Hwi desires Ji-un’s resignation to protect the secret she has longed to keep. Then there’s Jung Ji-un, who wishes to stay in order to save his friends’ lives.

Besides this, it is heartbreaking to watch Yi Hwi succumbs to the pressures of those around her. Especially after her grandfather reprimanded her for pointing the arrow at Ji-un in front of everyone. Likewise, given that the life she had initially was not what she desired, the way she observed the women’s rings as they went out appears to be painful to witness.

Consequently, the progression of Yi Hwi’s affections in the presence of Prince Jaeun and Royal Tutor Jung Ji-un subtly reflects. When Prince Jaeun and her briefly walked out and strolled through the market, he stops her from getting wet that illustrates the way she looked at him as if she was developing feelings for him.

Whilst also Ji-un’s assistance in tying the hat he gave Yi Hwi and her reaction to him suggest how this drama will represent another looming love triangle ahead.
