The King’s Affection Episode 9 Key Moments
“You want that person to only have eyes for you and you get upset when they aren’t aware of you feelings.”
After having a frantic dream of Yi Hwi kissing him on the lips following a night of drinking, Ji-un realized he was running late for the morning lecture with the prince. He immediately gets up and proceeds to the lecture room where the prince was waiting.
Yi Hwi breaks the tension between them by bringing up what happened last night, but Ji-un instantly cuts her off by apologizing to her. He continues to blame the alcohol for his unforgivable actions, claiming it got the best of him.
Correspondingly, Yi Hwi understands him and accepts his apologies. While Ji-un is perplexed by Yi Hwi accepting his apologies, she just informs him that everyone makes an inebriated mistake at least once in their lives due to alcohol.
She also assures Ji-un that he no longer needs to be concerned about it and that they can simply laugh it off. After dealing so much with the envoys, Yi Hwi then presents him with a box of sweet candies that fit his taste.
While returning to the royal tutor institute, Ji-un learns that the other royal tutor also receives candies from the prince.
A mystified Ji-un goes to see his friends and lets them snack on the box of candies. When they inquired about his problem, Ji-un shared the kiss on the cheek situation with them and then explained that the person who was kissed casually brushed it off, but he did not reveal his identity and instead stated that it was someone he knew.
Yeong-ji inquires as to whether the individual is liked by anyone. Continuing to converse that it is jealousy when the person he desires has only eyes for him and becomes enraged when the individual is unaware of his sentiments. Clearly, his friend proceeds to say that expectation creates disappointment.

“Who is that young lady that is driving you crazy?”
Back at the palace, Ji-un approaches his other tutors for help, outlining the symptoms he has been experiencing. According to his colleague, he read in a book that if he experiences symptoms such as involuntary facial flushing, his mood changes from excited to suddenly gloomy, he occasionally sees and hears things, and a certain someone appears in his dreams. Ji-un is in love.
Ji-un, now even more upset, rushes outside to get some fresh air, but while seeing the dancers, he notices the picture of a female Yi Hwi, who is actually another lady.
In search of inner peace, Ji-un visits the library to read a book. However, life does not allow him to breathe since he encounters the real Yi Hwi.

“Until when will you let others question the weight of his crown?”
Arriving at the palace were two young ladies, one of whom is the daughter of Minister of War Noh Ha-kyung and the other of whom is her friend So-eun. They were both seen by the Queen Dowager, prompting her to pursue the Crown Prince’s arranged marriage.
Following that, the king firmly opposes the idea of Yi Hwi finding an eligible maiden to marry. However, Queen Dowager reminds him of how long he will allow himself to cast doubt on bearing the weight of the prince’s crown. On the contrary, His Majesty continues to refuse, but Queen Dowager decides to wed off Yi Hwi.
“It wasn’t admiration from a subject. I thought it was my loyalty to you. But it was affection.”
To validate his sentiments, Ji-un visits Yi Hwi and requests that she hug him. As this is the final time Yi Hwi will express her emotions due to the marriage, she gives him a hug and wishes Ji-un strength.
Upon learning of Yi Hwi’s arranged marriage, Ji-un, who feels saddened by the news, bitterly congratulates her.
Afterwards, Ji-un eventually figures out that Yi Hwi kissing him on the lips was not a dream as he goes back to the little secret garden to retrieve the dice Dam-i gave him.
Baffled, Ji-un confronts Yi Hwi with his feelings, revealing that it was neither an admiration of the subject nor a feeling of loyalty to her.
Ultimately, it was out of affection, as he demonstrates by declaring his love for the prince.
The King’s Affection Episode 9 Musings
With the recent introduction of a new character, Noh Ha-kyung, she falls in love with her encounter with the prince at first sight. When Yi Hwi grabbed her waist and prevented her fall. This results in a more complex affection in the story’s progress..
Additionally, episode 9 provides a bittersweet and convoluted palace romance for the fated couple, as Ji-un admits his love to the Crown Prince, but Yi Hwi is unable to express her own feelings due to the grave secret she is holding, as well as the impending arranged marriage.
Meanwhile, when Prince Jaeun inquires about Yi Hwi’s experience of love, she tells him about the moment she and Ji-un fell into the pond.
Eventually, after Ji-un recalls him about the female he mentioned to him, he discovers that both of them fell into the pond. Jaeun picked up the pieces and concluded that the girl Ji-un is referring to is Dami.
As Prince Yi Hwi is now aware of Ji-un’s actual feelings, the series is now beginning to feature a poignant palace romance between the two, that we have all been anticipating.
