Twinkling Watermelon Episodes 7 and 8 Highlights

Having experienced firsthand how scary an altered future might be, our time-traveling guitarist gets more desperate to get his parents together, even if it means going to great lengths. But someone is meddling around, making it harder for him to achieve said goal.

“Do you think I had a choice about being born?”

First things first, the new Se-kyung is indeed Eun-yu, the daughter from the future time traveling the same way as Eun-gyeol. You see, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. And real Se-kyung grows up to be the spitting image of her obsessive mother. Sick and tired of this suffocating life, Eun-yu decides to live with her father. But said father already has a woman which leaves Eun-yu with nowhere to go.

Heartbroken, Eun-yu cries her eyes out. But then, the magic happens, and the mysterious music store appears out of nowhere. In the same style, the master buys Eun-yu’s cello and gets her on one particular trip that will probably change her life.

“My first love was nothing like your father. He was bright like sunshine, cheerful and manly.”

Being the spitting image of her mother in high school, Eun-yu pretends to be her mother. Initially, Eun-yu planned to die, but seeing Lee-chan, she changed her mind. What about setting her mother up with her first love? This way, Eun-yu wouldn’t be born to begin with.

But who said Se-kyung’s first love is really Lee-chan? Well, there is an easy method to check. Eun-yu remembers her mother saying her first love could handle spicy food extremely well. So, let’s round up all the candidates one by one on a spicy food test. And again, Lee-chan is the most fitting candidate.

“Only Ha Eun-gyeol can be the guitarist of our band. I will find him no matter what.”

Wait, there is someone we missed, Eun-gyeol, who went off the grid after last week’s accident. Hearing how Eun-gyeol took on multiple part-time gigs to buy him a guitar and make him twinkle, Lee-chan regrets fighting with him. When the band members suggest they replace him, Lee-chan gets mad at them. Whatever happens, he will find Eun-gyeol and have him come back.

The search for Eun-gyeol turns into a tragedy after Lee-chan comes across some evil guys who lie about knowing Eun-gyeol’s whereabouts and lure him into a dark alley. Standing no chance against them, Lee-chan gets beaten up and lies unconscious. As if I am not a crying mess already, he calls out for Eun-gyeol before he collapses.

Thankfully, Lee-chan is safe and sound. Watching him run tests on his ears in the audiology room gave me a scare. Please show, don’t break our hearts this way again. Also, seeing how persistent Lee-chan is, the band members come around and start searching for Eun-gyeol as well.

“In the dream, I traveled back to 1995 and met dad.”

Speaking of whom, Eun-gyeol has successfully landed in the future and reunited with his father and brother. There is a slight change, though. His mother isn’t Chung-ah but Se-kyung. Except, this is all a dream. The show fooled us once again.

When he opens his eyes, Eun-gyeol is at Chung-ah’s house. Remember the launching event where he got electrocuted? The organizing company belongs to Chung-ah’s father. And finally, Eun-gyeol spots Chung-ah’s name tag and realizes she is his teenage mother.

“If she isn’t allowed to use sign language, then how on earth is she supposed to express herself?”

It doesn’t take long for Eun-gyeol to figure out why Chung-ah claimed to be an orphan. Between an evil stepmother forcing her to make sounds and banning sign language, a father embarrassed of his deaf daughter and wanting to hide her, and a bratty stepsister who bullies her, it comes as no surprise Chung-ah cut them off and lived alone.

Eun-gyeol won’t sit back and watch his teenage mother get treated this way. If they want him to keep the accident under wraps, Chung-ah’s father should let Eun-gyeol teach her sign language at home and school. And now, we get the son and mother as classmates.

“It isn’t fair to be hated without a reason.”

Anxious about the weird dream he had, Eun-gyeol tries to contact the master, but to no avail. Another one doing so is Eun-yu. But instead of realizing they are both time travelers, Eun-yu suspects her mother’s first love is Eun-gyeol, and the latter is afraid of the idea of Eun-yu being his future mother.

To check her theory, Eun-yu suggests they grab a bite. But they end up bickering as usual, with Eun-gyeol hurting her feelings after he says he hates her. When Eun-yu gets a hold of him at school, she asks why he treats her this way. Even if he doesn’t stand her, how can he abandon Lee-chan this way? Does he even know Lee-chan got hurt while looking for him?

“I will do my best to not waste your time and improve. So, come back to us.”

Hearing that, Eun-gyeol gets worried to death about Lee-chan. But no need to worry. The guy is full of beans and doing a performance in front of the school to convince Eun-gyeol to come back. To keep his promises to Eun-gyeol, Lee-chan will study hard and work diligently at the band. This means Eun-gyeol will come back, right?

Well. Eun-gyeol is okay with coming back, but on one condition. Lee-chan will never see “Se-kyung” again since he likes her. What a twist! If he can’t keep his father from his first love, Eun-gyeol will pretend to like her. There is some truth to this, though. Eun-gyeol is slowly falling for Eun-yu, and she is just the same. I can’t wait for these two to realize they both come from the future.

Twinkling Watermelon Episodes 7 and 8 Musings

What makes the drama stand out is having a heart at its core. Watching Chung-ah try helplessly to help Lee-chan made me feel for her. The poor girl has no way of expressing herself.

Also, the scene where Eun-gyeol taught Chung-ah the sign language had me in tears. This trip will help Eun-gyeol see his parents in a different light and grow up alongside them.

The same can’t be said about Eun-yu, who catches her father flirting with the nurses and gets more adamant about hooking her mother up with her first love.

If said first love is really Lee-chan, I wonder how things turned out this way.

Brace yourself for a ride full of adventures, music and mystery as Eun-gyeol navigates the unknown in Twinkling Watermelon!
