Digging around Physician Kwon, Queen Hwa-ryeong discovers that he is the deposed queen’s son in Under The Queen’s Umbrella.
To search for what poison killed her son, the Queen uses Physician Kwon despite her awareness of his treachery. In her own investigation, she learns the physician’s real identity.

Under The Queen’s Umbrella Episode 14 Highlights
“When your child takes the wrong path, it is a duty of a parent to correct it.”
Deposed Queen Yoon switches her son Yi Ik-hyeon with Master Toji’s son who copies Ik-hyeon’s limping. Grand Prince Yeongwon, Yi Ik-hyeon, then grows up to be Physician Kwon.
Queen Hwa-ryeong requests the reinvestigation of Crown Prince Taein’s death for their son’s death, but the King refuses to do so as it is a threat to his enthronement.
Crown Prince Seong-nam reports to the Queen that the autopsy report of Crown Prince Taein is also missing from the royal secretariat. Knowing who the historian in charge is, they seek to find its original draft from the historian’s son, which is Park Gyeong-u.
Sharing the partial information about the lost autopsy report to Physician Kwon, the Queen asks him to stop the investigation, and instead bring her the possible poisons that killed her son.
The Chief State Councilor refuses Prince Ui-seong’s request to take down the King he enthroned. Telling this to his daughter, the Chief State Councilor learns that the King is not Prince Ui-seong’s father, and the Queen Dowager is somehow aware of it.
“If you are not sure, then it is not true.”
Master Toji reveals himself to the Chief State Councilor, who also realizes who the real father of Prince Ui-seong is. They exchange deals for his testimony of Crown Prince Taein’s death, but the Chief State Councilor tells them that the original draft of the autopsy report isn’t with him.
He only reveals that the present King witnessed the death, and Physician Cho should have the autopsy report.
Park Gyeong-u becomes hesitant to show the Queen the original draft of the autopsy report, for he believes she may not be able to handle the truth.
Agreeing not to tell anybody, the Queen learns that Crown Prince Taein was poisoned, but the King chose to keep it from the records. Moreover, the present King is also aware of it.
“What is more important than fervor is to awaken their instinct.”
Receiving pressure from the Queen Dowager about producing an heir, Cheong-ha seeks help from the Queen and the grand princes.
Queen Hwa-ryeong hears the preposterous rumors about the Crown Prince’s nonfunctioning reproductive organs and the Crown Princess’ loneliness. Careful about Prince Mu-an’s baby, Court Lady Shin successfully hides A-ra and Cho-wol from Court Lady Nam.
A nursemaid brought by the Queen strictly prepares the Crown Prince and Crown Princess for their consummation. Through that, they successfully spend the night together. In the morning after, Crown Prince Seong-nam clarifies to Cheong-ha that he does not dislike her.
“How many more must die and be sacrificed?”
Presenting a set of possible poisons, Physician Kwon cleverly brings the poison he really used to purposefully waste the Queen’s time with her doubts about him.
However, the Queen still realizes that he really brought the poison he used when a woman who took her own life used gansu, which was also present in the treatment of the late crown prince.
Learning about it, the Queen rushes to the deposed queen’s residence and sees that the son deposed Queen Yoon is living with is not Yi Ik-hyeon. Although confronted, the deposed queen feels no remorse for what her son did.
Physician Kwon poisons Physician Cho in the same way he killed the crown prince, his brother. Knowing where to find the autopsy report, Physician Kwon searches beneath the floor of the royal clinic, and Queen Hwa-ryeong confronts him for killing her son.
Under The Queen’s Umbrella Episode 14 Musings
It’s ironic to see the Chief State Councilor reminding Consort Hwang to lead Prince Ui-seong on the right path when he himself as a father was a model of greed to his daughter. He’s too late in stopping his daughter since Consort Hwang already is too deep into her immoralities.
Deposed Queen Yoon and her sons were supposed to be victims, righteous of the positions they were stripped of. However, now that she and her son Ik-hyeon has no remorse, their right to the position has long been lost.
Once Ik-hyeon or Physician Kwon began his killing, his purpose lost its meaning. He nor the deposed queen no longer stands on the right side of justice.
Truly, everything began because of the Queen Dowager, but none of it justifies their killings. Innocent lives such as the children of Queen Hwa-ryeong appear to be put in danger because of their fight.
Matters start to become out of hand, and the revenge plot they’re waiting for seems to manifest in flesh. With the rebellion brewing, we shall look forward to the outcome of Queen Hwa-ryeong’s search for truth in next week’s finale.
