Under The Queen’s Umbrella Episode 15 Highlights

“You can claim all you want that your fear and pain justify your revenge, but you are nothing but a murderer who killed my innocent son.”

Physician Kwon explains how he only wanted to know how his brother died and didn’t intend revenge at first. He describes how he pricked the organ and poisoned the late Crown Prince with small amounts of gansu just as how the Queen predicted.

Sincerely apologizing while agonizing about how he watched his brothers and mother suffer, the Queen tells him that nothing can justify his revenge and murders.

Reporting to the King about Physician Kwon, the Queen feels frustrated when the King chooses to hide the fact that Physician Kwon is Yi Ik-hyeon. Already holding onto the autopsy report that Physician Cho hid, the Queen chooses to inform Crown Prince Seong-nam of it, but not the King.

“It is your greed that killed him.”

Escaping the palace, Physician Kwon hides at Prince Ui-seong’s residence after threatening to report his involvement in the rebellion. Discussing the rebellion and that the autopsy report is their only chance, Prince Ui-seong offers to grant Physician Kwon a wish after hearing the only family the man has is his old mother and son.

Meanwhile, their rebellion’s base gets attacked, and Master Toji gets arrested. Instead of begging for his life, he asks the King what he saw when Crown Prince Taein died.

Justifying the peace the kingdom has at present, Master Toji scoffs at the peace and prosperity the King is talking about after also reasoning that he had no power over what his mother did to the late crown prince.

Holding onto the autopsy report of Crown Prince Taein, the Queen offers it to the Dowager in exchange for bringing Physician Kwon alive since the King already ordered his execution.

“The Queen should be someone bold and progressive.”

Cheong-ha faints, and the physician affirms that she is pregnant. The concubines become excited for her while Consort Hwang’s invitation for tea gets left ignored.

Visiting the grand heir, Crown Prince Seong-nam promises his nephew he could return to the palace when he’s 7 years old instead of nine.

Rumors of the crowning princess faking pregnancy spread. With the physician she colluded with, the Queen Dowager barges into the Queen’s chambers. The physician tells them all that he had a misdiagnosis, clarifying that the crown princess is not pregnant.

Because of Minister Yoon’s changed attitude toward the Dowager, the Queen Dowager points at Cheong-ha’s flaws. Using the crown princess’ heart disease as a reason, the Queen Dowager finds that as a ground for deposition, which the Queen reads as a move to obtain the autopsy report.

Worried about how the rumor started because she always ran to see the crown prince from afar, Cheong-ha gets comforted by Prince Seong-nam. He eases her worries, telling her that they don’t need a child and that pregnancy could bring more risks given that she has a heart disease.

“Nothing is true unless it can be proven.”

Preventing the crown princess from being deposed, the Queen hands in the autopsy report to the Dowager, but warns her that the report is not the only record of that day. However, the Queen loses the chance to obtain the original draft from Park Gyeong-u since he already gave it to the King for him to dispose of in order to avoid the people suffering because of the unrest.

Queen Dowager asks the Chief State Councilor to bring Physician Kwon as a way to redeem himself. The King then receives a letter requesting him to arrest Physician Kwon who will be lured to the palace.

After hearing from Physician Kwon that he is Yi Ik-hyeon, the Chief State Councilor gets stabbed. True to what the Queen predicted; Physician Kwon’s next target is the Dowager. However, Court Lady Nam disguises herself as the Dowager.

Consort Hwang feels betrayed to discover that Physician Kwon is Yi Ik-hyeon and that she was only used to bearing his son even at the beginning.

The Queen runs to see the Dowager burning the autopsy report. Meanwhile, Prince Ui-seong chooses to redeem himself by killing Physician Kwon as suggested by his grandmother. Only after being stabbed, Physician Kwon reveals to the prince that he is his father and he is the rightful heir to the throne.

Under The Queen’s Umbrella Episode 15 Musings

The difference between Physician Kwon and the Queen is apparent. They are curious about how they lost their family unfairly, but the Queen knows that she should not be destructive and eaten up by her anger.

Provided the option to either destroy the evidence forever or reveal the truth, the King has the ability to change how he will be remembered once the truth comes out. However, it appears that his fears and greed still persist.

Even in the end, Queen Dowager’s wickedness still plays out in the events in the palace. Though she is already aware of who Prince Ui-seong’s father is, she still uses her once favorite grandson to eliminate the man who turns out to be his father.

Heartbreaking as it is, Consort Hwang and Prince Ui-seong lose two people who hold an important part in their lives. Through this event, they are shaken back to the reality they have and the future they are about to face.

As the finale nears, the King still has the chance to admit what he saw when Crown Prince Taein died. There are different ways to protect the King and royal family, but immorality has no place in the Queen’s methods.
