Making its eagerly-awaited premiere, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha breezes in with interesting characters and a refreshing setting.
Scoring 6.8% and 6.6% in its first two episodes, the series is off a great start ratings-wise. For its opening week, the story attracts attention with the paraded backdrop of a soothing seashore village, a handsome neighborhood handyman and a dentist trying to start her career life anew.

Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha Opening Week Story
Having a relatively blessed life, Yoon Hye-jin (Shin Min Ah) has a stable career as a dentist while living in a posh apartment. However, her life changes when she had a fallout with a fellow dentist who owns the clinic where she is treating her patients. Their opposing views on patient care and procedure lead to Hye-jin drunk-blabbing her grievances online to the dentist community.
Losing her post, she was also blacklisted by the evil dentist so she can’t move to a new clinic. Left with no choice, she decides to move to Gongjin, a place she holds dear in her heart because of precious memories she shared with her deceased mother.
After learning how only a dental clinic is missing in the small seaside town, Hye-jin braves the odds to settle at Gongjin and practice her career there. She is constantly being helped by the town’s resident jack-of-all-trades Hong Du-sik (Kim Seon Ho) who can do almost everything except getting a wife for himself as joked by the town grandmothers.
However, Hye-jin being accustomed to modern living struggles to communicate to the simple-minded and free-spirited people of Gongjin. With the help of Du-sik, she learns the ropes to be a better neighbor with the townspeople. Knowing Hye-jin’s predicament and after serving her a nice chiding, Du-sik convinces the people of Gongjin to visit her clinic.
Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha Opening Week Musings
While having striking points in the opening week, I felt the first episode of Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha to be a bit bland. Thankfully, the second episode brought in the zest as the characters fuse in the narrative.
We can already foresee the character development of Hye-jin as she learns to adjust and be as empathizing with people’s situations as she can be. For her latest character, Shin Min Ah would go to a transformation from being unsympathetic to someone more perceptive for her business to thrive. Her story eventually goals to the message of profound self-healing after a life setback.
Also, we can’t help but want to know about the back story of Du-sik. How someone as capable as him settles in that small town when he can definitely hit it big in the city.
Chief Hong is a reliable troubleshooter who can easily win the neighborhood’s Most Helpful badge not to mention Most Handsome. If only we can replicate him and have someone like him in our neighborhood this covid period. I think Kim Seon Ho perfectly encapsulates the meaning of his character.
Seeing him extend help to those who need it as long as he can is quite heartening and encouraging for us to be reminded of how having a kind heart is always enough to keep up safe wherever we go.
