Lovers of the Red Sky Episode 4 Key Moments
“The people turn hostile when someone other than the eldest takes power.”
Prince Yangmyeong informs the King about the wounds in the corpses, stating that the culprit is unlikely a human. Scholar Ha arrives back at the palace grounds, and King Seongjo inquires about the parliament of owls the previous night. With the recent death of the guards, King Seongjo is worried that these cries of the owl may bring something negative. However, Scholar Ha persuades the King that it may be a good omen, and catches on to what the King’s real worry is.
Amazed with Scholar Ha’s wit, King Seongjo reveals his plans of abdication. He intends to pass on the throne to the crown prince despite having issues with health. Scholar Ha suggests to the King to pass the throne to Prince Joohyang or Prince Yangmyeong instead, but the King is firm with his decision that values the people’s opinion on having the eldest as the successor. He then orders Scholar Ha to choose an auspicious date for his abdication.
“If we meet again, like that time, by pure coincidence, then I would really like to draw your face.”
Consulting to a physician about her father, Cheon Gi is informed that the medicine that may help her father is rare and can only be afforded by the royal family.
Drowning in her thoughts about that, her colleagues convince her to join the Maejukheon Painting Contest organized by Prince Yangmyeong. Hearing that Prince Yangmyeong can usually grant the winner’s wish, Cheon Gi sets her head in joining the contest.
Master Choi tells Cheon Gi that he will only include her name in the list of participants if she finishes all the works and orders assigned to her. On the day of the announcement, her name is not on the scroll, but she then forcefully includes her name in the list while it was on its way to being delivered. Cheon Gi coincidentally meets Ha Ram again as she arrives at the submission site.
“To a man of high descent such as yourself, it may be just a petty list of painters. However, at the very least, it could decide the fate of my colleagues, the honour of Baekyu Society, and bring hope to my life.”
Recalling how she doubted Prince Yangmyeong, Cheon Gi runs away from him but he catches up to her. Ha Ram sits with the two so that they may communicate effectively. Offended by how the Prince refers to the painter list, Cheon Gi boldly expresses what the competition means to her fellow painters.
She also then apologizes for being disrespectful at their first meeting. The Prince accepts it and also takes back what he said about the list of painters. He also jokes how Cheon Gi told him that she was the Prince’s wife, which then makes Ha Ram spill his tea.
“It’s her. She’s that girl.”
Ha Ram reminds the gisaeng, Mae Hyang, to be careful around Prince Joohyang since he is doubtful. Moo Young arrives, and reports on the information he has gathered about Cheon Gi. Ha Ram confirms in his mind that Cheon Gi is the girl he has met before, and ponders on the timing of his reunion with Cheon Gi with his revenge on the King.
“The thing with men is this. They’re great and all, but they’re all dull in the same way. They always pretend like they’re an indifferent, pious scholar, then turn into little boys in my arms.”
Prince Joohyang drinks with other officials, and he is determined to put the crown prince in a deeper sleep. It is suggested to him that he must secure that Prince Yangmyeong is on his side, and use the upcoming contest to persuade Prince Yangmyeong to his side.
“A painting always begins with a line, and it ends with another line. Do not forget that. You must pour in all your talents into one streak of line.”
Master Choi catches on to what Cheon Gi did, which is to include her name in the list of participants. He then scolds her about it and locks her up. However, Cheon Gi is able to exit from being locked up and arrive at the place of the contest.
However, Jung holds on to her as she is barred from entering without the pass for the contest. Ha Ram stops Jung, and comes to rescue Cheon Gi from being dragged.
