“I don’t know the details, but basically, I must restore the portrait for everyone to live.”

Cheon Gi comes back to paint the King’s portrait, and she informs her friends about her decision. Worried about her, Jung reminds her of what Master Choi has said, but her drive to finish the painting is stronger. She also reveals how the restoration will help Scholar Ha as the demon is inside him.

“Each time I lose my memory, I lose people who are dear to me.”

While interrogating Scholar Ha, Prince Yangmyeong discloses to him how the demon has entered his body during the rainmaking ritual years ago. Aware of the fact that the demon causes Scholar Ha to harm the people around, the Prince suggests to Scholar Ha to attend the sealing ceremony.

Responding to that suggestion, Scholar Ha asks whether the divine painting is necessary for the ceremony because if it is, he refuses the suggestion. He elaborates how completing the portrait could bring a curse to its painter. With that, Scholar Ha urges the Prince to stop the restoration if he truly cares for Cheon Gi.

“When the King seems to be going down the wrong path, stopping that from happening is a subject’s duty.”

Although he is in prison, Scholar Ha manages to send orders to Moo Young and Mae Hyang. Through them, he is able to relay his message as Ilwolseong to Prince Joohyang. The Prince receives the message about the crown prince’s worsening conditions, so he meets with the royal physician to give the King honest advice about the crown prince’s condition.

The royal physician speaks up loudly about the crown prince’s condition, and reminds his subordinates not to be mere spectators. Heard by many in the outdoors, the news also reaches the King.

“Blood is indeed thicker than anything.”

Amazed with the sketch of Cheon Gi, the King orders the creation of the first draft of the portrait. As Cheon Gi is banned from going outside the palace, she finishes the first draft quickly with excellent artistic quality. Seeing the completed first draft, the King is in awe, believing how Cheon Gi also has her father’s skills.

However, after checking the draft’s divinity, it is discovered that the draft has no divine powers detected. With great dismay, Prince Yangmyeong tells Cheon Gi to restart her draft, and forget about Scholar Ha.

“I wish to do everything with you, whatever it may be. Because it took so many years for us to be reunited.”

Disheartened with her situation, Cheon Gi looks up to her friends for the execution of their risky plan. Young Wook comes with Cheon Gi to the police bureau with a forged document. They manage to enter, but they get caught and arrested.

Prince Yangmyeong comes to the scene, and allows Cheon Gi to meet Scholar Ha. Cheon Gi tells Scholar Ha that she will remain by his side even though he is convincing her to leave. Thinking about what the old man told him in prison, Scholar Ha holds Cheon Gi’s hand to check what destiny is.

Lovers of the Red Sky Episode 11 Musings

For a while when Cheon Gi was lying in bed sick, I thought her father had come back to his senses worrying about his daughter. However, it turns out, he is still in the same state.

Cheon Gi bravely chooses to continue with the restoration of the portrait despite all the warnings. In this episode, we see how Prince Yangmyeong asks her how she sees him, but he gets a cold brutal answer. With Cheon Gi’s answer of seeing the Prince as a jerk, the Prince has no place in Cheon Gi’s heart. The statement hurts, but it’s the truth he must face.

Prince Joohyang is delighted with Ilwolseong’s suggestions, and his line about giving honest advice to the King bears some value in real life. In the real world, it is necessary to give advice to a person who’s going down the wrong path. However, in the drama, his view is tainted, and he’s using that as an excuse for his greed for the throne.

Cheon Gi and Ha Ram’s situation appears to have no option where their safety is assured. Cheon Gi finishing the painting could bring her a curse she has to live with forever like her father. Ha Ram has the demon inside him, and sealing the demon in the painting could bring harm to the person he loves.

Their fate is twisted, but we see how far they are willing to sacrifice just for their love for each other. Like Ha Ram who followed the old man’s suggestion in prison, their destiny as individuals and lovers continues to bring curiosity.

In addition to that, Ha Ram’s revenge seems to have visible progress, and that shall also bring added disturbance to the royal palace.
