However, Cheon Gi questions why the Prince shall take care of her and her father.

“They say that even a painting has its own will. I suppose it’s true.”

Even though it is already late at night, Cheon Gi visits Scholar Ha’s place and tells him that she misses him. She shares to Scholar Ha that she feels scared after hearing how dangerous drawing the King’s portrait is because of the demon that needs to be sealed.

Realizing that it may be too late to go back home, Scholar Ha offers Cheon Gi to stay the night at his place since there are plenty of rooms. But Cheon Gi modestly tells Scholar Ha that she will just rest for a while in his place. There, she sees that her tiger painting was left at Scholar Ha’s place.

“You said that my fate is already decided. But I shall overcome it to protect all that I cherish.”

A head priestess named Wol Sun approached Prince Yangmyeong, and tells him that he has no chances with Hong Cheon Gi. This catches his attention, and he hears more details about Scholar Ha during the rainmaking ritual. Wol Sun reminds the Prince about the destiny of Cheon Gi, the divine painter, and how her aura clashes with his. Unhappy to hear those, the Prince is more keen with his decision of getting close with Cheon Gi.

“They are connected by the thread of destiny. Either one of them will meet its end.”

Mi Su along with Prince Joohyang tries to communicate with the demon, which disturbs Scholar Ha who is sleeping. The demon takes over Scholar Ha’s body, and walks towards Cheon Gi’s room. He then attempts to strangle Cheon Gi again, and this awakens Cheon Gi. She is able to resist the strangling through the power of the jade ring, and also Hwacha, the goblin, interrupts Mi Su.

Scholar Ha wakes up in Cheon Gi’s room, and he is confused as to how they shared a room the whole night. Cheon Gi tries to explain what happened, leaving out the part where he attempted to strangle her again. However, they realize they are wearing thin clothes, and people may misinterpret that they spent the night together. Cheon Gi tries to bring Scholar Ha back to his room without anyone noticing them, but fails to do so.

“Hey, is anything going to change if I am worried? And of course, I am worried. I’m just trying not to think about it.”

Master Choi overhears Cheon Gi’s conversation about her special assignment of drawing the King’s portrait, and this angers him. He is settled with their plans of withdrawing Cheon Gi in Gohwawon as he worries also about the consequences of drawing the portrait, evident with Hong Eun O.

Cheon Gi skips a night in drawing the King’s portrait because of her fear of falling ill like her father. She excitedly prepares for her trip together with Scholar Ha the next day, but Prince Yangmyeong arrives at her place. “We are just not meant to be together.”

Scholar Ha requests Cheon Gi to draw his portrait, and Cheong Gi gladly offers her service. She jokingly requests a handsome payment, and Scholar Ha hands her a boat ticket. He explains how he understands her fear of the danger of drawing the King’s portrait, which explains why he encourages Cheon Gi with her father to leave the country.

Justifying that statement, Scholar Ha reveals the demon that they are trying to seal resides inside him. Prince Yangmyeong arrives at the scene, and announces the arrest of Scholar Ha.

Lovers of the Red Sky Episode 10 Musings

Prince Yangmyeong has tried to profess his love for Cheon Gi in this episode, but it got dismissed as a joke. His love for Cheon Gi is grand, but we can see that Cheon Gi is all for Ha Ram. You’ll somehow feel sorry for his character but take it back at the latter part of the episode as he fights his fate, coming in between two people who love each other.

A lot of romantic and heart-fluttering moments between Cheon Gi and Scholar Ha are shared in this episode. The scene in the morning after they realized that they spent the night together in one room is thrilling and comedic. As they are caught together, Moo Young asks whether he needs to buy a hairpin already for Cheon Gi, possibly seeing that Cheon Gi will soon be Scholar Ha’s wife.

However, by the end of the episode, Scholar Ha leaves the words that maybe they are just not meant to be together. His character’s decisions are perplexing as he goes back and forth with separating ways with Cheon Gi and spending time with her, and even professing his love. But it’s understandable also since their love is not a smooth-sailing one as they are disturbed by a lot of factors.

It’s saddening how Cheon Gi and Scholar Ha have to adjust for the royal family. They are ordinary people, but because of their duties and obligations, their love and life are disturbed. Cheon Gi sees the dangers of drawing the King’s portrait, and her fear is valid, but she has little to no option of backing out given her duty as a subject to the King.
