“Father. What they did to you, I will do the exact same to them.”

Prince Joohyang orders the assassination of Kim Gong Rae, after seeing that he owns the blank papers that were used to leak information to the King. Through Moo Young, Scholar Ha intercepted the transmission of the blank message of Gong Rae. He has also bumped into Kim Gong Rae during the competition exposing the blank papers he used.

Happening as he has expected, Scholar Ha marks Kim Gong Rae deceased in his list for his revenge while remembering how his father was cornered before. He then plans on marking Mi Su, the shaman, as his next target.

“No matter how well you wrap an incense stick, its fragrance will travel long distances.”

King Seongjo takes a look at the paintings Hong Cheon Gi has produced during the competition. Prince Yangmyeong praises Cheon Gi’s skills in front of his father, and suggests her to be part of Gohwawon. The King jokingly questions whether it is for the prince’s own benefit of keeping Cheon Gi close, but later gives his approval for her acceptance in Gohwawon.

“One who casts such a dark spell also suffers grave consequences.”

Curious on the reason why the King has requested for Hong Cheon Gi, Prince Joohyang plans on using Sim Dae Yu, a competitor during the contest. Mi Su suggests casting a spell on Dae Yu to fully control him while he is close to Cheon Gi. Such a move could give them an idea of why Cheon Gi is needed by the King. Mi Su reassures the prince that there will be no harm to him for the dark spell she will cast.

“Before you regret it, pluck up the courage to do what you want or must be done.”

While eating together, Cheon Gi openly asks Master Choi about his status with Gyeonju, which flusters him. After finishing their meal, Cheon Gi announces her decision to enter Gohwawon. “If you do not know when to be grateful, you’re no better than a beast.”

The news of Cheon Gi joining Gohwawon delights everyone in the room, especially Master Choi. He hands over a scroll with Cheon Gi’s painting of a tiger, telling her to give that painting to Prince Yangmyeong as a sign of gratitude. Touched by Master Choi’s gesture, Cheon Gi jumps to him for a hug.

“If that boy didn’t want me to recognize him, he probably died, or he must have a reason to live as if he was dead.”

On her way to Prince Yangmyeong’s, Cheon Gi crosses paths with Samsin who disguises herself again as an old lady. Cheon Gi refuses to hand over her painting to the old lady, so Samsin pauses the time to cast a spell on the painting Cheon Gi has.

After that, Cheon Gi keeps walking by the same place as if her path was in a loop. Entering the house, she is shocked to see Scholar Ha’s assistant Man Soo.

Scholar Ha and Cheon Gi sit down for tea while talking about what happened after the competition. Cheon Gi then expresses to Scholar Ha that she will no longer think about the boy from her memory, and leaves his place even though it is raining.

Prince Yangmyeong comes to cover Cheon Gi while she is walking in the rain, but Scholar Ha also appears with an umbrella while the two are walking.

Lovers of the Red Sky Episode 7 Musings

Ha Ram’s revenge is starting to be put into action with Kim Gong Rae’s death. His character proves that he is intelligent after foreseeing how Prince Joohyang would react after discovering Gong Rae’s disloyalty to him. Ha Ram’s goal has been achieved even without directly taking part in the assassination.

His list for his revenge is shown, and even Prince Yangmyeong is included. It’s saddening how Prince Yangmyeong can be considered innocent, but his ties with the royal family include him in the list.

Personally, I wish to see Ha Ram sparing Prince Yangmyeong from his revenge list as he is unproblematic, unlike his father and brother.

Gong Myung’s charm as Prince Yangmyeong is highlighted in this episode. He looks adorable as he shyly hides his admiration for Hong Cheon Gi while talking to the King as well as to Ha Ram. His smile and compassion for Cheon Gi are obvious, and these shall be signs of the beginning of the love triangle in the series.

The scroll that contains a tiger painting has given viewers additional knowledge about the power of tiger paintings driving out evil spirits. Seeing how the scroll ended up in Ha Ram’s place, we could say that Cheon Gi and Ha Ram are truly fated for each other. Moreover, their encounters are even supported by Samsin, a divine being.

Prince Yangmyeong has promised to look after Cheon Gi’s father, and we shall see whether her father will be healed from his madness. As Cheon Gi decides to enter Gohwawon, Master Choi is worried about the risk of insanity like her father.

We can look forward to the next episodes Cheon Gi’s experiences inside Gohwawon, alongside her quest for the truth about the origin of her father’s madness. Viewers shall also continue to see Ha Ram’s plots of vengeance on the royal family.
