tvN plans to show an array of interesting dramas in 2023 by decorating its lineup abundantly!

Kim Jong-hoon, head of CJ ENM’s Channel Business Department relays what’s in the pipeline of 2023 tvN dramas.

“We plan to present high-quality dramas that cross genres this year as well to provide viewers with a variety of enjoyment. We have prepared an assortment of stories, including blockbuster dramas that have returned to the new season, trendy dramas with fresh material, and dramas with targeted genres. tvN will continue its role as a ‘K content leading channel’ both in name and reality.”

Crash Course In Romance

Currently airing Crash Course In Romance depicts the delightful romance between a passionate side dish restaurant owner and a reserved and capable Math instructor.

First broadcast in January, the series is gaining popularity by presenting a variety of charms, from a romance narrative featuring Jeon Do Yeon and Jung Kyung Ho. Accordingly, the stories of youth in the battle for college entrance exams add an engrossing point to the series.

The recently aired episode 8 viewer ratings soared to an average of 13.6% and a maximum of 14.4% based on households in the metropolitan area, ranking first in the same time zone for all channels, and is showing the spirit of renewing its own highest viewership rating every week.

In addition, according to Good Data Corporation, it ranked first in the drama topic for 4 consecutive weeks, proving its ‘one hit craze’.


Our Blooming Youth

Recently premiered, Our Blooming Youth features a youth redemption romance about a mysterious cursed crown prince and a genius girl accused of murdering her family.

It stars Park Hyung Sik and Jeon So Nee as the lead pairing. It boasts an excellent creative team with Director Lee Jong-jae of 100 Days My Prince fame and Writer Jung Hyun-jung popular for romantic comedies including Discovery of Romance and I Need Romance franchise series.

The first broadcast viewership recorded an average of 5% for households in the metropolitan area peaking at 6.1% (based on the Nielsen Korea paid platform). Moreover, the chemistry of featured Joseon youth along with elements of passion, romance and mystery draw attention.

The Heavenly Idol

New mid-week drama, The Heavenly Idol tells the story of a powerful high priest who finds himself possessing the body of an unpopular K-pop idol. ‘

After a fierce battle with the devil, Pontifex Lembrary from the mystical realms finds himself swopping bodies with Woo Yeon-woo, a member of an unpopular idol K-pop group Wild Animal. In order, to convince Yeon-woo to switch back to his body, Lembrary must make Wild Animal successful.

Soon, the holy Lembrary begins his crash course as a K-pop idol, struggling to endure diets, master dance choreography, sing and even strike sexy poses for the camera, all while fighting against the devil.

The series is based on a popular webtoon and stars Kim Min Gue, Go Bo Gyeol, Lee Jang Woo, Tak Jae Hoon and Ye Ji Won. It premieres on February 15.

 


Pandora: Beneath The Paradise

Pandora: Beneath the Paradise is a revenge drama about a woman who lives a life that everyone envies. But when she recovers her lost memories, she sets forth to punish the people who manipulated her destiny.

Penning the script is writer Kim Soon-ok who wrote The Penthouse, The Last Empress and Wife’s Temptation. Director Choi Young-hoon (One The Woman) calls the shots of the production.

For the lead role, Lee Ji Ah plays Hong Tae-ra transforming into ‘the incarnation of revenge’. She faces the terrifying truth that her life was someone’s plan, and she throws herself in to find out who was behind it to exact revenge and protect her beloved family.

Additionally, Lee Sang Yoon portrays Pyo Jae-yyun, the husband of Tae-ra. He is the chairman of the IT firm Hatch and is a powerful presidential candidate. Strong in character and intellect, Jae-hyun is a born leader and fierce competitor. While pursuing his ambitious goal, his wife’s memory returns, and turmoil in their relationship ensues.


Family

Family chronicles the story of a NIS black agent husband who disguises himself as an ordinary office worker and a sweet but secretly fierce wife who dreams of a perfect family.

Jang Jung-do, who oversaw a number of box office hits such as the dramas What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim, Our Blues, and The Crowned Clown, is in charge of directing with Lee Jung Mook. Penning the script is Jung Yoo-sun. Rounding up the lead cast are Chae Jung An and Kim Nam Hee.

In the drama, Jang Hyuk takes on the role of Kwon Do-hun, a black agent of the National Intelligence Service who disguises his identity as an employee of a trading company. He is a veteran sniper with a quick, accurate and neat one-shot, one-kill skill. He estranges himself from his family due to his busy schedule, but he is a husband full of love for his wife.

Joo Won takes on the role of Hwang Dae-myung, a civil servant belonging to the Cultural Heritage Administration. Making its return to the small screens after three years, Arthdal Chronicles Season 2 reveals reprisal of roles for Jang Dong Gun and Kim Ok Bin.

Meanwhile, Lee Joon Gi and Shin Se Kyung join the lead cast as Eunsom/Saya and Tanya, respectively.

The sequel to Arthdal Chronicles picks up from the initial premise. Lee Joon Gi transforms into the characters of Eunsom and Saya who both have become a force to reckon with in the eastern part of the kingdom of Arth. Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938

As hinted by the title, the Lee brothers are set to embark on a new challenge in the year 1938. This news piques interest because we can see a retro vibe mixing the signature Korean folklore in Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938.

Reprising their roles are popular actors Lee Dong Wook and Kim Bum as Lee Yeon and Lee Rang respectively. Joining them in the lead cast are Kim So Yeon and Ryu Kyung Soo.

This time, Lee Yeon is set to embark on an adventure in an era of chaos in 1938, thus providing a different feel from the first season.

The Uncanny Counter 2 predicts upgraded exhilarating adventures of demon-breaking heroes as the diligent “counters” face stronger demons. Exciting action sequences are predicted along with the expected craze.

See You In My 19th Life

See You In My 19th Life traces the story of Ban Ji-eum, played by Shin Hye Sun, who remembers her past lives after repeated rebirths. In her 19th life, she’s on a mission to find Moon Seo-ha whom she met first in her 18th life.

Ahn Bo Hyun portrays Moon Seo-ha, a man who carries trauma after losing loved ones as a child. His first love Yoon Joo-won (Ban Ji-eum’s 18th life) helped him overcome that trauma. Living a recluse life, Ji-eum appears changing Seo-ha’s life dramatically.


Beneficial Fraud (LT)

The series tells the collaboration between two completely different people, a fraudster who cannot empathize and an overly sympathetic lawyer. It is a revenge story against absolute evil.

Director Lee Soo-hyun and Kim Dong-wook, reunite from their series Find Me in Your Memory.

Chun Woo Hee plays Yi-rum, a genius with a brilliant brain and tremendous memorization, but carries deep wounds within.

Starring Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Won, Queen of Tears is a collaboration between the writer Park Ji Eun (My Love from the Star, Legend of the Blue Sea, Crash Landing on You) and directors Jang Young Woo (Crash Landing on You) and Kim Hee Won (Vincenzo, Little Women).

For the cast, Kim Soo Hyun (It’s Okay Not To Be Okay) and Kim Ji Won (My Liberation Notes) have been selected for the lead roles. They will portray a couple in the drama, and their scenes together will bring laughter and inspiration to the audience.
