“The Devil” Drops Eerie Teaser Video Featuring Kim Tae Ri and Oh Jung Se

First released at the 2022 SBS Drama Awards, a peek at writer Kim Eun Hee’s highly-anticipated series, The Devil, draws effortless intrigue.

The Devil traverses the story of a woman possessed by evil spirits and a man who can see demons. It is a cryptic thriller that would delve into mysterious deaths surrounding five people.

Notably, this will be writer Kim’s return to SBS after nine years since Three Days. Her recent acclaimed works include Jirisan, Kingdom and Signal.

She will work together with Director Lee Jung Rim who previously worked on lauded series, VIP.

Demon

In The Devil, Kim Tae Ri (Twenty Five Twenty One) challenges a new genre. She takes the role of Gu San-young, a public servant. She works part-time during the day and studies at night while preparing for the civil service exam.

After receiving the remains of her father, who passed away, San-young becomes embroiled in mysterious deaths that keep happening around her. She herself gradually changes into someone different.

Character actor Oh Jung Se (It’s Okay To Not Be Okay) portrays Yeom Hae-sang, a professor of folklore from a wealthy family. He has ears and eyes that can see beyond and meets San-young by an unexpected opportunity. Through their meeting, he again encounters the demon who killed her mother right before her eyes as a child.

Finally, Hong Kyung (D.P, Weak Hero), who has accumulated an impressive portfolio in various works, appears as Lee Hong-sae, a police officer in the violent crime investigation team. He lives in good taste, only aiming for special promotions, but as he got involved with the above-mentioned characters, he becomes involved in unbelievable incidents.

Igniting viewers’ attention, the released teaser video introduces a cryptic mood. Against the backdrop of bleak music, the 15-second video of Kim Tae Ri and Oh Jung Se’s struggles as if they are chasing a mysterious death gives a sense of extreme tension.

Above all, Kim Ri’s intense characterization of staring at the camera with mysterious eyes creates a chilling moment. She previews what thrilling story to expect in her quick narration: “outside the door is a different world. If you open the door, there are demons”.

The Devil is slated to broadcast in June 2023.
