Rowoon and Cho Yi Hyun lead the table read of KBS2 Monday-Tuesday series, The Matchmakers!
The Matchmakers is a comic melodrama about a struggling matchmaker. Set in the Joseon era, an old maid and an old bachelor work together in a grand wedding operation.
In the drama, Hanyang’s most resentful man, Shim Jung-woo, and Jeong Seon-deok, a widow who lives a double life, will join forces. They are set to present Joseon era’s version of Love Actually in which they marry single people Joseon.
Accordingly, The Matchmakers is written by Ha Su-jin, who showed the power of novel material and superb narrative through Sell Your Haunted House. Steering the production is director Hwang Seung-ki who showed off his delicate directing skills in Memorials, Justice, and Review Notebook of My Embarrassing Days.
The collaboration aims for a unique drama that breaks the ‘prejudice of love’ by completing witty and pleasant characters in a story that will showcase beautiful visual beauty.
In this regard, Rowoon and Cho Yi-hyeon are attracting attention by predicting an interesting transformation as Joseon matchmakers in The Wedding Battle.

In relation to this, the main characters of The Matchmakers predicted unprecedented chemistry and fun in the recent script reading. Director Hwang Seung-gi, welcomed the cast and crew at the script reading event with words of encouragement while the actors stood up one by one to say hello, creating a friendly atmosphere.
First, Rowoon raised expectations for his comedic acting transformation by showing off his confident vocalization and natural line expression skills that perfectly fit the role of ‘Hanyang’s most angry man’ – Shim Jung-woo.
He is a Confucian scholar full of old-fashioned power and a man of principles with a brilliant mind and became the youngest person to pass the state civil service examination, but was unlucky enough to have both his career and marriage blocked due to the princess he married who passed away on their wedding day.
Taking the role of Jeong Seon-deok, a widow and an efficient matchmaker who lives a double life is Cho Yi Hyun. Seon-deok is officially the second daughter-in-law of an elite Joseon family, but unofficially, she is living a double life as the best matchmaker in Hanyang.
Predicting an extraordinary romcom-historical drama, Cho Yi Hyun gears up for her character’s eccentricity, liveliness, and humor. She is the mysterious matchmaker who succeeds in her job with the knowledge gained through love novels and Sherlock-level analytical prowess.
The Matchmakers’ Supporting Cast
Next, Park Ji Young, Jo Han Chul, Lee Hae Young, Choi Hee Jin, and Jin Hee Kyung, who boast deep expertise decorate the series with their extraordinary experience.
Park Ji Young (Little Women, The Red Sleeve), who showed a strong performance in her previous work Revenant, plays the role of Park So-hyun, the wife of the Park clan, a positional character who left her husband in the dark, her younger brother ill, and her youngest sister in deliberation.
Jo Han Chul, who showed off his extraordinary presence in Weak Hero Class 1 and Reborn Rich, plays the role of a king who wants to marry the three daughters Maeng family, dubbed as representative virgins, within two months in response to the sitter who blocks the wedding of the crown prince on the grounds that Hanyang is overflowing with virgins and miners. The intensity was doubled with a heavy tone that perfectly suited the role.
Lee Hae-young, who has proven her acting skills by crossing between villainous and good roles through The Glory and See You In My 19th Life, takes on the role of Jo Yeong-bae, the husband of Park So-hyun and the father-in-law of Jung Sun-deok. The intensity was doubled by acting in a confrontational manner.
In addition, Choi Hee-jin presents her elegant side in The Matchmakers by transforming into Mrs. Jo, the mother of three daughters, Maeng Bak-san. In the play, Jin Hee-kyung, who plays the role of the Queen, who gave birth to a late son because the princess gave birth to five children with no heir.
Rounding up the cast are actors Shin Jung-hye, Park Ji-won, Jeong Bo-min, Oh Ye-joo, Park Hwan-hee, Heo Nam-joon, Son Sang-yeon, Choi Kyung-hoon and Kim Dong-ho, who have strong individuality that would heighten the drama’s energy with their passionate performances.
The Matchmakers is scheduled to premiere at 9:45 PM on Monday, October 30.
