Alchemy of Souls Episode 16 Highlights
In the previous episode, Wook and Mu-deok successfully escape Master Park’s prying by affirming their relationship progressed to a romantic one.
“Master Lee knew that you were a soul shifter from the beginning. Perhaps he even knows that you are Naksu.”
Cutely bickering about their relationship status, Wook asserts the pressing concern that her identity as Naksu might have been known by Master Lee already.
Back at Songrim; Lady Jin and her family pay a visit to get the gwigu-dog. But when the dog almost attacked Cho-yeon, her mother protected her, killing the dog in the process.
When Master Lee declares a trace of black magic was traced by the dog, Cho-yeon confessed to usung a love amulet.
At the palace, Jin Mu reports the gwigu-dog died. The Queen asserts that Songrim is using it as an excuse to challenge the power of the royal family amidst Prince Won’s bafflement at why it was destroyed.
Buying the Queen’s words, the prince tried to explain that Master Lee meant that someone born under the King’s star will save Daeho, but the King is worried.
Obviously, both Master Park and Lady Jin do not like the news of Dang-gu and Cho-yeon’s relationship. Both are especially not cordial like the way they were before.
In a separate conversation, Jin Mu explains to Prince Won how the power of Master Seo Gyeong hailed in Songrim is still revered in Daeho. Thus, the idea of someone born under the King star is threatening.
“We cannot provoke the palace. Jin Mu will surely use the circumstances of Wook’s birth and turn him into the enemy of the royal family.”
Master Lee confirms with Master Park that the Queen and Jin Mu are brewing evil things together. They both agree to take extra precautions since Wook might take a big hit. Any wrong move will create chaos.
Ascertaining the need for Jang Gang to explain everything and having the knowledge of Jin Mu’s weakness. Master Park is sure that if his friend gets a whiff of the soul shifter situation, he will worry about Songrim and his son.
Giving instruction to his student; Master Lee tells Master Heo to give Naksu’s sword to Wook. He particularly instructs that if someone uses the sword, that person must be killed. If Wook does not obey the instruction, he will also die. Wook keeps to himself the silent warning from Master Lee that they will be both killed if Mudeok uses the sword as assassin Naksu.
Telling Wook they should abide with their initial promise once they get the ice stone and revive her energy; Wook bargains that should she wield her sword, he will be the receiving end of it. He again promises to retrieve the ice stone before she runs wild.
“It is happening again. It happens every time I go to Jinyowon.”
The three best friends meet for a drink and reminisce that moment when they were young when Yul fell ill because of protecting Dang-gu who broke a precious ink stone.
Wook knows that his friend is covering up for Mu-deok. His nature being innately upright easily makes his body suffer as withstanding the pressure is Yul’s weakest suit.
Just as Wook and Mu-deok realize Shaman Choi is in the same camp as Jin Mu; Master Park and Master Heo also hit the same line of thinking. They deduce that the real Queen is somewhere if a soul-shifter has taken possession of her body.
In the last preparations for her entrance to Jin family, So-yi learns about the symbol used by Jin family that is also on the eye cloth belonging to Mu-deok.
Prince Won and Wook end up at Gaema village where shamans thrive. Exchanging details about their purpose, they meet an old shaman who gave information about Shaman Choi and her younger brother. Apparently, Shaman Choi was punished at the time when Jang Gang was the head of Cheonbugwan.
Meanwhile, Dang-gu and Cho-yeon were given chances to sign agreement papers so they can go back to their respective families. Initially, thinking of going back home; the two decide to stick together and just get a change of clothes from their houses.
With Mu-deok, Cho-yeon goes to Jinyowon. Seeing another girl is probably being tested as her older sister, they follow behind. Just as So-yi tries to move the door that only members of Jin family can open, Mu-deok again experienced pain in her eyes.
Sensing someone has been following them, Wook and Prince Won separate. Facing the stalker, Wook unsheathes his father’s sword and points it to the man, who reveals himself to be Jang Gang.
Alchemy of Souls Episode 16 Musings
Tensions are close to hitting the culminating point of Alchemy of Souls. Finally, the wandering mage Jang Gang makes his appearance. Hopefully, his years of nomadic pursuit would be justified accordingly.
With volatile So-yi in the mix of the key characters moving in the narrative right now, it’s hard to foretell what will happen next in the story. We don’t know if there’s an ounce of goodness remaining in So-yi’s heart. But then again, she hid the fact about Mu-deok as someone she knows.
Lady Jin’s husband sided with Jin Mu owing to what happened to his sister Shaman Choi. Already reaching a point of no return, Jin Mu would proceed with their ultimate plan to challenge Songrim through Lady Jin.
Will Master Jang finally return to Songrim? Will Naksu recognize the clues about Mu-deok’s identity? Will Prince Won deduce the anomaly happening in the palace involving the queen?
