Big Mouth Episode 8 Highlights
“The great Big Mouse has become nothing more than a lab rat.”
Waking up from his dream, Chang-ho in a straitjacket gets injected with the truth serum, and hallucinates that he is surrounded by rats.
Taking his chance with the help of the truth serum, Ji-hoon asks where his money is, but Chang-ho answers he does not know, which Ji-hoon interprets as a lie.
Prosecutor Choi warns Ji-hoon of the dangers of the truth serum, but Ji-hoon disregards it.
Meanwhile, Chang-ho recalls his first memories of Mi-ho, who took his side, and shared a lunchbox with him.
Thinking in his subconscious he is already dying, Chang-ho comes back conscious after being splashed with water.
When asked again about the money, he says it is located in Gudal mountain marker A-2, which the prosecutor sees as plausible since it is close to where Chang-ho lives.
While they are at the mountain digging, Chang-ho bargains with the nurse, who turns out to be deaf, to release him.
Locating the chest in the mountain, they only see one gold bar while the rest of the money and bars get transferred with a truck and locked somewhere else.
Thinking about his situation, Chang-ho deduces that ‘big mouse’ witnessed everything that happened in the mental institution when he told Ji-hoon that his money was at Gudal mountain.
“You can’t escape him out of fear. Not because of his love.”
In the prison, an inmate faints and vomits blood. The room leader notices the rise in the incidence rate of such inside prison.
With Dr. Han getting released on bail, the room leader asks Chairman Yang if he was sure of believing Chang-ho.
Discussing their bet after being underwater, Mayor Choi tells Joo-hee that they should have a child after she assumed the mayor wanted help with talking with the elder.
A call arrives for the mayor about locating Professor Jang, so he then calls Mi-ho. He arrives on time just when Professor Jang was about to throw her cross necklace, but the copy of Professor Seo’s paper is not in it.
Professor Jang refuses to talk, so Mayor Choi leaves ahead as he receives news that the elder collapsed.
Mi-ho tries to sympathetically talk to Professor Jang, but she is firm in hiding the paper and refusing to stand as a witness.
Joo-hee looks after the elder, and the elder talks about having someone to watch his business. She tries to ask the elder how he sees Mayor Choi, but the elder questions her about how long she will run the hospital.
Asked to stay the night to watch the elder, Mayor Choi stops himself from strangling the sleeping elder.
“This isn’t an ordinary strategy. One small mistake, and it all comes falling down.”
Chang-ho’s request of being fed sushi is granted by Ji-hoon, but a fire breaks out which disrupts his meal.
Chang-ho gets beaten up by the nurse who was deaf, and Jerry who is dressed up as a fireman saves him, but also gets beaten up after.
Stabbing the nurse with a glass shard, Chang-ho and Jerry escape the institution and get chased by security.
Jerry confesses to Chang-ho that it was his fault that Chang-ho got a stomachache, and also reveals he got paid by ‘big mouse’. Curious about that matter, Jerry promises Chang-ho that he will tell him about it soon.
Fleeing from the men surrounding his car and the security checkpoint, Jerry speeds his car over. Chang-ho follows the instructions relayed by Jerry, and passes over the scene where he sees Jerry covered in blood.
In the news, it gets reported that Chang-ho escaped and poses a reward to whoever catches him. The police at the checkpoint let Chang-ho pass by even after seeing his face.
Going to the unmanned hotel as instructed, Chang-ho feels convinced that ‘big mouse’ is a bad guy who disposes people after using them.
Outside the prosecutor’s office, Mi-ho with her father, and Soon-tae begin their protest about Chang-ho’s abduction, and even willingly submit their phones.
They prove that they had no contact with Chang-ho since his disappearance. However, Mi-ho sees an ad about insurance, which was similar to how Chang-ho proposed to her. She then contacts the number seen in the ad, which turns out to be Chang-ho.
“Do you know where the perfect place to hide lies is? The truth. You get confused about what is the truth and what are lies.”
During their phone call, Mi-ho and Chang-ho confirm that Professor Jang agreed to help.
Worried about the upcoming live broadcast online that will cover their case, Dr. Han gets told off that such broadcasts spread fake news.
Contacting Ji-hoon, Professor Jang reveals that she has Professor Seo’s paper, and proposes to exchange it with Dr. Han’s signature on their divorce papers.
Despite the reaction of Dr. Han being against the idea, Ji-hoon urges him to process their divorce since they all need Professor Seo’s paper as it could bring threats to the elder.
The day of the trial comes, and Mi-ho attends it while watching the live broadcast that covers Professor Seo’s case.
Coming out on the live broadcast, Chang-ho as ‘big mouse’ announces that he has a prediction about the trial happening at present.
An epilogue shows Mi-ho witnessing Chang-ho buying a lot of half-priced milk that is about to be expired, which he will then bring to the orphanage.
Big Mouth Episode 8 Musings
Based on what the room leader said about the number of inmates vomiting blood and the connection of Gucheon University Hospital, it could be possible that they are running an experiment on people in the penitentiary like lab rats.
The elder has an essential role in the happenings in Gucheon, and it also shows that Mayor Choi wanted to strangle him.
Ji-hoon who always has doubts about what Chang-ho says seems like he is the one complicating the statements brought to him. The truth for him sounds like a lie, and the lie sounds like the truth, which confuses him further.
With the flashbacks shown in this episode, Lee Jong Suk and Im Yoona pulled off their high school selves well. In those scenes, it also hints about Chang-ho coming from an orphanage, which could also be one of the possible origins of ‘big mouse’.
Chang-ho has pulled a big brain move on the ad, and Mi-ho cleverly caught it. Next week’s episodes will show Chang-ho’s next moves on the live broadcast, and we could look forward to the upcoming revelations.
