Extraordinary Attorney Woo Episode 9 Highlights

Last week, Young-woo confronted the pain and longing when she conversed with her mother who abandoned her when she was young. Her blossoming romance with Jun-ho is also flourishing, but her reservations still need reassurance.

“Even if all they’re doing is looking up at the sky and snickering at the clouds floating by. As long as the child is smiling and is happy in that moment, that’s what playing really is.”

With a goal to emancipate children from the strenuous standards raised by society; Bang Gu-ppong hopes for a world where children are playing, healthy and happy. Away from post-school academies they should attend, he creates an army of children and encourages them to play freely.

Unfortunately, his act is deemed as a kidnapping of 12 minors, and Young-woo is tasked to defend him. Rushing to meet her new client, Jun-ho feeds her on what happened and sneaks a sweet moment by removing an eyelash that fell on Young-woo’s cheek.

It’s quite a hard task for Young-woo to make her new client cooperate. Innately nonconformist, during the arraignment Commander Bang spouts his usual free-spirited language. Asking for a quick break, Young-woo coaches him that they need to create an impression that he is in his right mind.

However, Commander Bang didn’t listen and was sent to the detention center while the team prepares for the trial. Min-woo and Young-woo go to interview him and listen to his ramble about how the school, academies and parents are at fault for not letting the children play. It hence results in unhappy and unhealthy children.

Young-woo explains his philosophy about the proper way how children play will not reduce his sentence. Stubborn to stand by his advocacy, his cooperation is not working well with Hanbada lawyers.

“If someone said they like someone and that person doesn’t say anything back, that means they’re just not going to answer, right?”

Meeting her bestie, Young-woo asks Geu Ra-mi about her current vague status with Jun-ho after her confession. Confused if she has to ask again, Geu Ra-mi and the bar owner both agree it’s a wrong move. Instead, she receives a tip to be nice to him.

Hilariously, she picks on the bar owner’s advice on nice things a man does for a woman. So, when she did it with Jun-ho, it was utterly adorable.

Jealousy is also hitting Jun-ho since Young-woo is fascinated with Commander Bang. Instead of her usual whale stories at lunch, she’s telling him more about the odd client of hers.

Puzzled by all the nice things Young-woo is doing for him; Jun-ho confronts her and she explains that it is her way of showing she likes him and that’s why she was being nice.

“My son is mentally unwell and lacking. He probably doesn’t even know what he’s saying. We’re all moms raising children. Please just once, forgive my son with your generous heart as a mother.”

At the first trial, the bus driver relays how he woke up realizing he was at the foot of a mountain and four hours had since passed. Commander Bang’s situation seems to be going on a hopeless side. Young-woo and Jun-ho meet with some of the children and learned about the situation of grade school students who have to go through extreme study routines.

Commander Bang’s mother meets with the moms of the children who are totally against negotiation. Falling on her knees with her sincerest apology, she blamed herself for failing as a mother. Her plea secured the agreement that they are letting off her son.

Young-woo tells Commander Bang’s mother how her son is mentally well and knows what he’s doing. It’s just that only children can understand his genuine philosophy as adults fail to see his honest intentions.

Sticking to his belief, Commander Bang refuses to show remorse for his action which makes his chances for probation unlikely to happen.

“Children have to play right now. Later is too late. It’s too late after getting into the university, after getting a job and after getting married. In a life full of anxiety, it’ll be too late to find the only way to happiness.”

On his last trial, as requested by Commander Bang; Team Hanbada brought the children to their trial using courtroom exposure to convince the overachieving moms of the children.

Giving his last words, the defendant again asserts his advocacy to let the children play at the age that is rightful for them to play. Supported by the children who remembered the meaning of his mission; they made an inspiring scene that pierced through the hearts of the spectators inside the courtroom.

Bothered by his growing emotions for Young-woo, Jun-ho finally made up his mind and rushes to find her. He makes a heartfelt confession that he likes Young-woo, too.

Extraordinary Attorney Woo Episode 9 Musings

Illuminating the existing problem often overlooked in society about the inability of children to play freely, Extraordinary Attorney Woo gifts another reminder of how everything in life need not be rushed.

Echoing Commander Bang’s words of how life is given to have plenty of uncertainties, it’s really a must to find the right pacing. Parents who have children should allow them to grow and enjoy life, and refrain from strenuous study habits.

In the revealed scenario of this episode, overseas viewers might be surprised to learn about the rigid training that elementary students go through in Korea. For K-Drama fans, we’ve been SKY Castle-educated, so this does not come as a surprise.

Hopefully, this would ripple a ponderous moment for parents who are tuning in to Extraordinary Attorney Woo to make adjustments accordingly for the sake of their children.

Obviously, we don’t want people with sad childhood to prosper in this already cruel world. Kudos to Koo Kyo Hwan for his impressive portrayal of Commander Bang. We can’t think of any actor that can pull off that stellar portrayal.

On a lighter and romantic note, we’ve been living for the romance to finally go two-way between Young-woo and Jun-ho. I swear I will be disappointed if it will not happen next episode.

It seems Tae Su-mi is defying her own convictions. Her visit to Young-woo’s father is quite risky so we can’t wait to know her intention as well.

Celebrate the colorful courtroom life of Woo Young-woo in Extraordinary Attorney Woo! International fans can watch the series on Netflix.
