IDOL: The Coup Episode 7 Key Moments
“I didn’t leave to be happy! I left to be less unhappy.”
Jenna grabs onto Troy’s condition, and follows Elle around to convince her to come back to the group, and also plead with Troy. Witnessing Elle being pestered by her nosy neighbor in the student hostel, Jenna steps forward to interfere. She falls down the stairs, and sustains scratches and wounds.
Elle finally agrees to meet Troy, and asks him what he wants for him to agree to be the producer of Cotton Candy. After their conversation, Troy finally agrees to be Cotton Candy’s producer, and Elle goes her way.
“Failing doesn’t make you entitled. Stop being so arrogant.”
Hyun-ji gets worried seeing that Stella still drinks medicine, thinking that it is for Stella’s colds that won’t go away. Ray keeps Stella’s mental health medicines, covering her from her members.
Meanwhile, CEO Cha sees Jenna in the elevator injured from her fall at the stairs near Elle’s place. He drags her to a clinic where his aunt works. The CEO’s aunt then speculates that CEO Cha has feelings for Jenna after bringing her twice to the clinic.
“The more I reached my goal, the more I felt lost.”
Ji-han and Jenna practice for their performance together, and Hyun-ji calls out the distance between the two as it affects the overall feel of the dance. The two practice together alone, and Ji-han confronts Jenna about being uncomfortable around him. He brings up how she used him, and tells her to stop if she’s feeling faint-hearted.
After that confrontation, their practice performance together begins to improve. As they take a break, Ji-han opens up about how he feels about his upcoming project with his unit. He honestly talks about his thoughts on achieving dreams, and his struggles with defining himself given his associations.
“We’ll go on with the power of those mean comments. Since we have no tomorrow.”
Chae-ah wakes up early, and diligently practices for the upcoming event. She goes live on their channel, and shares how she lacks in a lot of areas compared to the other members. She expected that nobody would watch, but there was one who entered her broadcast.
In the morning, the article about the collaboration of Mars and Cotton Candy was released. Seeing the negative comments, Hyun-ji jokes with her members on meeting them again to fight. On the other hand, Chae-ah notices the growth in their channel, with negative and positive comments split in half.
Jenna tells CEO Cha that she’s better off with mean comments than no comments at all. She doesn’t bother with transforming the mean comments into good ones as she considers this the fuel of her group.
“At that time, our dream was so simple that we didn’t think it would evade us.”
Bbiyong informs Jenna about the revenge of Troy to Elle, which is to come back to her old group Killa. Jenna rushes to the dance studio where Elle is practicing as a backup dancer for her old group. Hearing the news, Hyun-ji attacks Troy, and they settle at the police station.
Jenna reminds Troy of the days when he used to write music notes on music paper, but Troy tells Jenna he does not “write” anymore, and lets her choose between him or Elle. Jenna chooses to be a backup dancer also while the remaining members inform the CEO that they will give up their performance with Mars.
IDOL: The Coup Episode 7 Musings
Compared to before, the recent episodes’ tones have transitioned into a lighter one. Cotton Candy’s journey and struggles as an idol group are still there, but there have been comedic scenes and lines. Moreover, characters like CEO Cha have also been showing his warm side, in which Kwak Si Yang’s charming points may be appreciated.
Seeing his interactions with his aunt, we could say that CEO Cha is not all that cold businessman. He still values business, but now we see that he is a person capable of caring for people like Jenna. His interactions with Director Yoon have also been entertaining despite the problems their agency faces.
On the other hand, we see Elle continue struggling with her battles. Even though she may be cold and avoidant, Cotton Candy members still value and worry for her. Good things have been happening with Cotton Candy recently, but the members are willing to drop their collaboration with Mars for Elle.
In real life, spontaneously dropping out of an event may be unprofessional. However, it’s understandable in the series as their decision is for a noble reason. Their loyalty is something to look up to, and hopefully, they meet good results.
Troy and Ji-han’s remarks about their dreams in life bear truth in reality. People may feel hopeful during the process, but at the same time anxious about getting higher and closer to achieving one’s dreams. With that, we shall continue to look forward to how far Cotton Candy and other characters could go to achieve their dreams.
