May I Help You Episodes 13 and 14 Highlights
In the last episode, Hae-an learns about the relationship between Tae-hee and Vincent with Jun-ho, his brother’s drunk-driving victim. Bearing the guilt of being unable to come clean, he meets Tae-hee in the hospital. Apparently, the latter asked to be informed if Hae-an’s brother regains consciousness.
Seeing Tae-hee, Hae-an feigns ignorance and asks why he was there. It made Tae-hee think that he does not know his relationship with Jun-ho. Walking away, Tae-hee was followed by Hae-an so he coldly tells him that his older brother killed his younger brother.
At home, Vincent notices his nephew’s somber mood and before long Hae-an arrived. He sincerely apologizes for the trouble that his brother caused Jun-ho and relays how the celebration for being the class valedictorian at the police school made his brother overly drunk which caused the accident. Hae-an also intensely puts the blame on himself for the death of his brother.
“After coffining, the deceased seems to be saying thank you to me. I’m there at the end of their lives. Helping with closure in their lives is my job.”
Through So-ra, Dong-joo learns about Tae-hee visiting the ICU and she realized her boyfriend needs comfort. She later learns about Hae-an being the younger brother of the drunk driver who killed Jun-ho.
The next day, Il-seob’s former lover asks for help as her baby unfortunately died. However, her father again furiously blames everything to Il-seob. Later, Dong-joo chats with him and was asked why she returned when initially left the job.
He felt relieved that like him, Dong-joo feels attached to the job. Il-seob mutters how he accepts his job fully, the hardships and the gratification that comes with it. Trying to help his ex-lover who is worried about how her child would feel so cold, Il-seob bought a padded jacket to appease her worried heart.
In the end, Il-seob’s ex-lover’s father shows remorse by holding Il-seob’s hand after the burial service and seeing how the deceased baby was taken care of well.
“Even if I think of it 100 or 1000 times, I still can’t forgive.”
Picking up on the fuss caused by missing video footage at the police station, Hae-an was tasked to check if the fix was already completed. Later, he meets Tae-hee at a coffee shop who tells him sadly that he really can’t forgive his brother for his misdeed.
Understanding his pain, Hae-an recounts how there was a point in his life when out of greed he denounced having a family. It was agonizing on his part that when he met family-like people like him and Vincent, the reality hit him hard. He promises that he will be out of Tae-hee’s life.
When Tae-hee asked if Jun-ho talked to him, Hae-an denies and said he could have come earlier. About to leave, Tae-hee calls Hae-an and brings him back to Vincent’s house to stay.
Unfortunately, Hae-an’s brother regained consciousness momentarily but died as well. Almost creaking down, Hae-an calls Tae-hee to inform him of the news that his brother died and he does not know what to do.
“Sorry, I don’t think I would be able to meet him. I can’t meet anyone who commits suicide or kill someone.”
Tae-hee calls Dong-joo thinking she would be able to meet Seo Young-chul, but she tells him that her ability does not extend to people who died killing someone. Surprisingly, when she touches Young-chul’s face, Dong-joo was able to meet him.
It brings the truth that he did not kill Jun-ho, but someone else’s did base on the logic of Dong-joo’s supernatural ability. Unable to help Dong-joo with her question, he requests for she brings cigarettes when she gets back.
Seeing Tae-hee, she informs him that he met Seo Young-chul but lies that he extends an apology for what he did to Jun-ho. Dong-joo also learns from Mi-young, Young-chul’s close friend, that she partly blames herself for making Young-chul send a picture of his car registration that could have caused the accident.
The real story though is that it was Hae-an who drives the truck. His brother who picks on him whenever he is drunk made him lose focus which inevitably caused Jun-ho’s death. Sadly, Hae-an hides the truth and there’s a hint that he might have tampered with the CCTV footage.
“There’s supposed to be no secrets between two people that love each other? Once you start hiding tiny things from each other, you start having a hard time seeing that person because of guilt.”
Visiting Tae-hee, Dong-joo’s father sees them together. Thanks to Vincent’s quick assessment, he was able to make excuses. But he reveals that the two are dating which Dong-joo’s father was okay with. He also tells Vincent not to tell his daughter that he passed by and will wait for her to tell him in person.
At night, Dong-joo calls her father and gets a lesson to always be honest with someone if she will be in a relationship. His words are aptly right since she’s trying to assess if she’s going to disclose what she has found out about Seo Young-chul.
But when she got the picture from Mi-young and figured Young-chul was not sitting in the driver’s seat, she relayed her thoughts to Tae-hee. He also wonders why the police did not accept the photo as evidence which was what Hae-an told Mi-young. Tae-hee promises to look into the details she just told him so she can’t stop feeling worried.
Hae-an continues feigning ignorance even when questioned by his fellow police officer who handled Jun-ho case and when Tae-hee tells him that his brother might not be the real culprit.
Later, the police officer called Tae-hee about his discovery on the CCTV footage. At that same moment, Hae-an who was at the church and curiously followed Dong-joo who met her uncle for confession heard about Dong-joo’s suspicion.
When they met at the house, Dong-joo reveals meeting his brother. Consequently, Hae-an strangles her without hesitation.
May I Help You Episodes 13 and 14 Musings
A lesson on forgiving was deeply imprinted in these episodes of May I Help You. Remarkably, it functions to cushion the reality of what Hae-an’s choice back then weighs. Implying Jun-ho could have survived if Hae-an saved him first confuses the direction of the story a bit. Especially, when the exact details of the accident were unfurled.
Looking forward to a life he has never dreamed be possible for him owing to his dysfunctional family, Hae-an made the wrong choice to evade the crime he committed and favored a decision to protect his thinking the truth will not be revealed. Despondently, he keeps the same decision putting Dong-joo in danger.
Even now, Hae-an still has this ability to draw sympathy albeit his intentional deletion of evidence on the first day of being transferred to the team that handles his brother’s case. Correspondingly, this truth and how he opted to not come clean with ample opportunities given to him proves the possibility that he inadvertently planned his connection with Tae-hee.
Talking about choice, despite receiving mean treatment from his ex-gf’s father, he endured it and still became a pillar of strength for her. Hopefully, the connection with So-ra finally yields a nice outcome to wrap up his story well.
Can Hae-an still find a little goodness in him and face his misgivings rightfully? Did he purposely get closer to Tae-hee?
