My Liberation Notes Episode 7 Highlights

“When you desperately long for something, your soul already knows deep down that it’s not yours.”

Keeping an eye on Mi-jeong and Mr. Gu, Gi-jeong sarcastically chimes in when Mr. Gu answered that he was not accepting any pay since he liked working on the farm.

Du-hwan eats together with Chang-hee, who gives him a realistic perspective on his hesitancy toward his crush. Opening up his heart started to beat faster hearing that his crush broke up with her boyfriend, Mi-jeong voices her view on liking someone, stating that she feels the opposite.

She rather feels calm and peaceful. Backing up what his sister has said, Chang-hee elaborates that pursuing something we know was not meant to be ours drives us crazy, which makes the heart beat faster.

With the suspicions of their club’s legitimacy, the employee from their company’s support center sits with them in a cafe, learning more about the rules of the club, and appreciating the club’s purpose.

Bringing home a lot of bags, Gi-jeong calls Mi-jeong to help her. Waiting outside the cafe, Tae-hoon invited her to sit inside while their club meeting was ongoing.

In that, Gi-jeong hears about Tae-hoon’s story and the realization of feeling weak after his parents’ death while also looking out for his daughter.

After being silent about it, Mi-jeong gets confronted about her recent change of address. Concealing the real reason, Mi-jeong tells her she did it for a friend who files bankruptcy, driving her parents to ask her to change it back urgently.

“If you hesitate to say something, but then actually say it, you’re guaranteed to regret it.”

A-reum tries to take over the store Chang-hee manages, but he remains firm knowing it has high revenue.

Ready to fight those who asked Tae-hoon to fight, Gi-jeong texts him after asking Mi-jeong his number. Finding himself smiling while texting, Tae-hoon stops himself from continuing the conversation.

In the bank, Mi-jeong inquires about the letters of her delinquency, and the teller tries to endorse the option of filing a  lawsuit against the person who has a debt to her.

Calling the number of Chan-hyeok, Se-yeong picks up and convinces Mi-jeong that Chan-hyeok has no money. Pressured by her bank delinquency, Mi-jeong cries talking about her worries as Chan-hyeok grabs the phone.

He reasons out that she could ask her family to pay for it first, saying he is also doing his best. Ending the call as Chan-hyeok breaks things, Se-yeong texts Mi-jeong that she is determined to not let Chan-hyeok die.

Chang-hee and Du-hwan talk about the difficulty in telling a person you like them, and Chang-hee doubts Gi-jeong’s plans to love anyone after harshly bashing people below her who confessed their feelings to her.

Hearing all that from another room, Gi-jeong steps out of the room. Asking Mi-jeong who initiated the relationship, Gi-jeong becomes perplexed after Mi-jeong corrects her that she never asked Mr. Gu out, instead she asked him to worship her.

Answering a call from an unknown number, the man on the phone asks Mr. Gu about his whereabouts, but Mr. Gu was more interested in how’s Ssaebi.

“You can do anything in front of someone who likes you.”

To pay back her loans, Mi-jeong closes her savings account which was about to mature. Collecting the receipt of her payment, the bank employee tries to sincerely cheer Mi-jeong on.

Unexpectedly seeing each other, Mr. Gu and Mi-jeong ride the bus together. She informs Mr. Gu she changed her address back after sorting her loan out.

Mr. Gu offers to collect the money for her, asking for the name and phone number of the guy who borrowed money from her.

Rejecting the offer, he asks if she is not over him yet.

Mr. Gu tells how the guy knew what she was afraid of, and used it against her. Displeased with his question, Mi-jeong tells him that he could have just commended her for dealing with it well.

Although she looks like an idiot for falling into such a situation when money got involved, she rather chooses to be left alone since fighting with people is hard for her.

“When I really like someone, I think the opposite happens. My heart beats even slower. ”

With her reaction, Mr. Gu tells Mi-jeong that she does not have a problem fighting him. She then points out that it’s because he likes her.

Continuing that, she requests him to make her confident enough to love herself by worshipping her.

Calming her down, Mr. Gu sets the table for her to eat as a sign of worship. Raising up her mood, Mr. Gu opens up about how scary he is as a person, but ironically admits he is scared of Mi-jeong. Although he may feel annoyed for being an idiot, he still finds himself waiting for her.

Driving together at night, they watch the stray dogs. Trying to get closer to the dogs, Mi-jeong stops Mr. Gu.

Having a good cry on the bus alone, Gi-jeong rethinks about her inner debate on how she could admit her feelings to the guy she liked but recently bashed for being below her level.

Waking up in the middle of the night, Gi-jeong prays for and sincerely apologizes for cursing the people who confessed their feelings to her.

Mi-jeong’s father sees the paper of their household registry, with her name back on the list.

On her way to wait for the bus, Mr. Gu lets Mi-jeong ride the truck, and witnessing that, Gi-jeong forcibly hitches along.

Meeting at the train station, Chang-hee hears from Gi-jeong that Mi-jeong’s boyfriend gave them a ride, and realizes who Gi-jeong was pertaining to.

My Liberation Notes Episode 7 Musings

Breaking away from being mysterious, we can see Mr. Gu smiling more often in this episode. As well as Mi-jeong who only used to frown or cry, we see her smiling together with Mr. Gu.

Mi-jeong is forced to deal with her problems on her bank delinquency alone after her father discovered her change of address. Knowing how helpless her situation could get, the way she dealt with it is one of the options she deemed best when considering the person who borrowed money from her.

Possibilities of Mr. Gu’s origins are hinted at through his phone call while also claiming he is a scary man. However, as he admits he is scared of Mi-jeong, you could also feel your heart being excited for them.

There’s so much to empathize with from the liberation club and reflect on the words of Chang-hee. Life can be exhausting considering the tiring routine of work, and finding one’s rhythm is so essential in living.

Although it may sound like a bitter truth, some things are not meant to be, and a feeling of unrest could be a sign. Mi-jeong’s siblings may be perplexed by her choice, but her relationship with Mr. Gu is one of a kind as she finds her heart being calm rather than beating fast with him.
