As Seung-Yoo decided to be a math teacher in Asung high school, a new generation of students gets embroiled in academic concerns in the latest episode of Melancholia.
Meanwhile, Yoon-Soo remains cold towards Seung-Yoo. However, he made efforts to make her feel comfortable with him again.

Melancholia Episode 8 Key Moments
Seung-Yoo Gets Closer With Si-An
Since Seung-Yoo now teaches Mathematics at Asung high school, he got curious about Si-An because of her perspective towards math. Later on, Seung-Yoo found out that Si-An is also a student of Yoon-Soo.
Just by that, Seung-Yoo invited Si-An somewhere. Si-An loves board games like chess. Seung-Yoo and Si-An went to the nursing home where Yoon-Soo’s father stay.
Si-An and Yoon-Soo’s father played chess together and Si-An was amazed because the man plays well. However, Yoon-Soo rushed to the nursing home knowing that Si-An was there.
Seung-Yoo and Si-An got comfortable with each other that’s why Yoon-Soo was obliged to eat dinner with them. Going home, Yoon-Soo almost crashes with a luxury car that Ye-Rin drives. The latter was so angry and asks the driver to come outside but Yoon-Soo decided not to come out.
Meanwhile, Kyu-Young also saw Yoon-Soo in an elevator to her workplace. Kyu-Young was not sure but he believes that Yoon-Soo was close to them.
Ji-Na Copies Si-An’s Work
In this episode, Ji-Na and Si-An are highlighted as new students of Asung high school. Ji-Na is Ms. Noh’s daughter that was quite reckless.
Ji-Na attended a yoga session and stole an expensive watch that causes 30 million won. Ms. Noh was called to the police station and the police relay that Ji-Na might have stolen it.
To confirm it, Ms. Noh went to Ji-Na’s locker and saw the luxury watch. Ms. Noh was very frustrated and even shouted so loud to release her anger. However, her woes don’t stop there because Ji-Na copied the work of Si-An.
In the class of Seung-Yoo, the students are asked to think of a concept or an idea that they wanted to include in the upcoming Mathematics Museum. When Si-An was already leaving the library to go to the computer shop and make her PowerPoint presentation, Ji-Na insisted that Si-An can use her laptop instead because they are already friends.
In the presentation the next morning, Ji-Na presented and copied the presentation along with Si-An’s concept about the traditional board games. Si-An was shocked and disappointed by what had happened.
Seung-Yoo and Ms. Noh talked to them and Ji-Na denies the fact that she plagiarized Si-An’s work. Yoon-Soo was also shocked because she also checked the work of Si-An and was confused why they had the same work.
Ms. Noh slapped Ji-Na and said that she should not ruin the reputation and dignity of the school. However, Ji-Na has deeper issues with her mother.
Seung-Yoo’s Eagerness To Be With Yoon-Soo
In the latest episode, Seung-Yoo keeps doing his best to get closer again with Yoon-Soo. However, she was still firm in her decision to stay away from him.
When Seung-Yoo accompanied Yoon-Soo to her house because it has been a rainy night, he admits he wanted her to be happy even just through Si-An.
Meanwhile, Yoon-Soo’s ex-fiance, Sung-Jae, followed Yoon-Soo to her house and asked if they can talk. She avoids him but Sung-Jae said that there’s something he wanted to say.
Unknown to them, Seung-Yoo saw both of them with a confused face.
Melancholia Episode 8 Musings
Mainly, the 8th episode of Melancholia highlights the happenings inside Asung high school. Just like Ye-Rin said to Seung-Yoo, the school did not change at all.
The tension between Si-An and Ji-Na gives a frustrating note because the issue of plagiarizing still happens in the said-to-be prestigious school. However, the presence of Sung-Yoo makes it lighter because I feel that he would not allow these kinds of wrongdoings to continue any longer.
Meanwhile, I was intrigued about the relationship of Ms. Noh to her daughter. I can describe Ji-Na as someone who doesn’t fear anyone, ever her mother. However, it was seen that Ms. Noh values the dignity of the school so much.
There’s not much progress between Seung-Yoo and Yeon-Soo’s relationship in this episode. However, I sense that Yeon-Soo would untighten her boundaries more in the upcoming episodes.
