The King’s Affection Episode 5 Key Moments
“You should give it to the lady that steals your heart.”
When Yi Hwi discovers that Prince Jaeun and Royal Tutor Ji-un were previously acquainted and friends, she considers confiding in Jaeun about badmouthing her new tutor. Meanwhile, Ji-un jokes with the guilt-ridden prince about whether the two of them spoke ill behind his back.
Subsequently, she observes Ji-un holding a book, which she recalled was her command to the other royal tutor to transcribe the book. Both of them fight over a book, but as Eunuch Hong and Ga-on see them, the two stop fighting as well.
At the palace gates, Yi Hwi returns the ring to Prince Jaeun and advises him to give it to the woman who has captured his heart.
Moreover, Prince Jaeun knew all along that Dam-i was posing as the Crown Prince when he visited the Prince’s chambers to bring the kitten to Yi Hwi in a flashback. He did, however, overhear their conversation between Yi Hwi and the Crown Princess Consort unintentionally.
“You could have said no. You didn’t have to yell.”
Attending the royal lectures again, Crown Prince Yi Hwi returns the hat that Ji-un lent her the other day in the market. She firmly warns him to not repeat such actions in the future.
Likewise, Yi Hwi and Ji-un bicker once more, when Ji-un noticed an attached bead on the hat. He peacefully asks Yi Hwi whether she placed it there. She exclaims that the beads have been present since the beginning.
Royal Tutor Jung tells her that she might have simply said “no” without having to yell.
As Yi Hwi resumes her attention to her studies, Ji-un subtly gazes at her beauty. In which he eventually expresses to his imprisoned trusted associate that Yi Hwi resembles the court maid he met on the day of the royal hunt.
“Since the palace is my home, I should know about everything that happens within the walls.”
Taking Ji-un’s instructions to heart, Yi Hwi starts looking around the royal institute where the other tutors play and sleep. On the other hand, Ji-un makes an attempt to gain the attention of his fellow tutors. Checking to verify if the books in the cupboard are well organized, it turns out they are not.
Yi Hwi then informs the others that she is taking the lessons of Ji-un seriously.
Afterwards, the prince inspects the medicinal herbs and the kitchen, where she finds unorganized items and unhygienic workers.
Sensing that Yi Hwi’s inspection is going poorly, Ji-un invites her to accompany him somewhere. They consequently walked to a location from where they could view the entire palace.
Conversing about the lesson they had in the early lecture, Ji-un thoroughly explains to Yi Hwi their discussion. He clarifies that rather than reprimanding others for what she sees and assumes, she should trust their loyalty and love for her.
Ji-un goes on to say that they are doing all possible to serve her and the king. He wants her to understand that what matters is the people within the walls, not the palace itself.
Contrarily, Yi Hwi argues that he is being foolish in proposing to trust the people’s loyalty and love. She clearly underlines the difficulty of trusting human feelings.
That is, misleading people for selfish purposes and killing others to protect oneself is hard enough to trust because it is in the nature of humans.
The King’s Affection Episode 5 Musings
In the fifth episode of The King’s Affection, we have a Female Yi Hwi attempting to suppress her feelings to the best of her ability. She thinks of Ji-un placing his hat on her, and especially after Court Lady Kim caught her blushing. She instantly denied her assumption and asserted that it was her body temperature from their walk that caused her to blush.
With this in mind, the numerous quarrels the fated couple have in this episode cannot be overlooked. This means that Ji-un and Yi Hwi are heading to embody the well-known phrase “the more you hate, the more you love.”
Moreover, the second lead syndrome is beginning to manifest itself in the series. As Prince Jaeun has always known and developed feelings for Yi Hwi, considering he has known her secret for a long time and continues to keep it hidden.
Besides this, the way he threatens Lord Changun for harassing the Prince of sneaking someone in Yi Hwi’s chambers to put something that will boost her manly desires. This reflects the depth of his affection, but he is incapable of expressing it.
Consisting of a jumpstart to Yi Hwi and Ji-un’s growing feelings for one another, there begins the poignant palace romance we have all been anticipating.
Perhaps this will be revealed in the upcoming episodes of The King’s Affection on Netflix.
