The Law Cafe Episode 14 Highlights

“What I’m trying to tell you is that it’s hard to fight alone, but things can change if you fight as a group.”

Laughing at the meme video circulating, Mr. Hwang gets called to President Lee’s place to think of damage control. However, no longer serving the bad, Mr. Hwang reports back to Yu-ri on siding with her.

The team celebrates their success in exposing the assemblyman, but Jung-ho reminds them not to feel too excited about it. In the news, Assemblyman Choi defends himself in a press conference calling his feelings with his worker mutual, and calls Song-hwa a gold digger.

Yi-seul gets into a fight in her kindergarten. Coming in to resolve the issue, Jung-ho clarifies to Yi-seul that her action cannot be called self-defense. While Yi-seul needs to apologize, Jung-ho rattles the mother of the child who provoked Yi-seul with possible charges of slander.

Supporting Song-hwa while discussing her case with the investigator, Jung-ho and Yu-ri take turns in contesting the investigator’s offensive way of asking as he sounds like victim-blaming.

“I know we haven’t dated for very long, but you know that she’s the only one for me.”

As the prosecutor handling Song-hwa’s case is Baek Gun-man, Yu-ri remembers how he cheated on her. Chasing Yu-ri after being caught in the act at a DVD rental room, Jung-ho beats him up. Reminded of the past, their senior asks Jung-ho and Yu-ri about their relationship status.

On a serious matter, Prosecutor Baek tells them they need more solid evidence for the case, but Jung-ho doubts he will be fair.

Chairman Lee sets Jung-ho on a blind date without his knowledge. Leaving the meeting, Jung-ho is urged by Chairman Lee to marriage of the same social status. However, he remains firm on loving Yu-ri, so he buys a proposal ring on impulse.

He asks advice from Jin-gi on a classic but not cringy way to propose. Perplexed with what his friend wants, Jin-gi leaves him.

Coming back to his place, Jung-ho hides the ring from Yu-ri, and confesses he went on a blind date. Not upset with what she heard, Jung-ho sulks and asks Yu-ri to think why she wasn’t moved at all.

“Being able to share your story can be very healing, but it’s sad to see how many people have to say ‘Me too.’”

Joon and Eun-gang visit one of the past workers of Assemblyman Choi. Though the man wasn’t interested at first, Joon convinces him by sharing how they were able to take down their pervert sergeant in the military.

Though he did not work at the same time with Song-hwa, the man shares the same experience under Assemblyman Choi. Given he has a diary that includes entries on the day that it happened, Yu-ri assures it could be used as evidence.

Song-hwa barges into the room crying, apologetic with mixed feelings of thinking she was alone, and the man cries with her. Eun-gang honestly tells Song-hwa that his heart feels heavy when he sees her cry, and asks to allow him to be nice to her.

“If you try to hold a bursting dam with your finger, you’ll be the first to drown.”

Through Mr. Hwang, Jung-ho and Yu-ri meet CEO Kwon on a golf course. They successfully shake the unity of the group as Assemblyman Choi receives a recording of the group agreeing with CEO Kwon’s proposal on abandoning him.

Betrayed by it, Assemblyman Choi seeks the support of Chairman Lee. However, the chairman asks him to admit his charges and take down Lee Pyun-woong, and in exchange, he is taken care of after his release.

Following the chairman, Assemblyman Choi turns himself in and admit his charges. Song-hwa barges into the interrogation room, emphasizing that no means no.

Talking more than his sexual harassment case, he hands in the flash drive from Chairman Lee, which exposes Lee Pyun-woong’s illegal activities in his villa.

The friendship of the four men gets shaken as the investigation begins, and just as how Jung-ho persuaded Gun-man, the prosecutor takes the spotlight in the case.

Going on a proper date, Jung-ho gets ready to propose, but backs out of his grand preparations as Yu-ri laughs at sudden proposals like Jin-gi’s.

President Lee is urged to leave the country before his travel ban, but he visits his father’s place as he discovers the chairman was the one who ordered him to be taken down.

While Jung-ho is serious about their relationship, Yu-ri admits she’s distracted thinking of President Lee who is not yet punished. Sure of his feelings, Jung-ho takes the ring out and proposes.

The Law Cafe Episode 14 Musings

Regardless of gender, this episode acknowledges that anyone could be a victim of unwanted physical advances inside or outside the workplace.

Undergoing such is already burdening, and speaking about it to others is as twice as heavy as the experience. What’s notable from Song-hwa’s words is that silence does not mean yes, and saying no means what it is.

Onwards to Jung-ho’s proposal, there are also a lot of options to consider in preparing for marriage. It’s laughable how Jung-ho, Lee Seung Gi’s character is so against cringy proposals that involve singing when in fact the actor has a song often used in grand wedding proposals in dramas.

Ideally, people propose because they want a lifetime commitment of love. Jung-ho is quick to consider and prepare a proposal, but part of the reason that pushed him to do so is Chairman Lee setting him up on a blind date.

Though the chairman agreed on stepping down and is willing to take down his own son, there’s still part of him that feels ominous. The conflict with President Lee has not yet been fully resolved, and viewers can look forward to it in next week’s finale along with the outcome of Jung-ho’s proposal.
