K-Drama Review: “Oh My Ladylord” Consistently Soared In Heart-Fluttering Moments Despite The Lack Of Narrative Fulfilment

Oh My Ladylord has brought viewers to an addicting state but chooses to give an unapologetic safe ending.

Because the conflict was revealed as a crucial part of the series, accepting the bland closure is given, albeit all of us expected a K-Drama Miracle.

Oh My Ladylord Quick Plot Recap

A top screenwriter and a top actress are forced to live together after the former’s house was sold by his mother. He enters a contract to be a tenant so he can continue writing at his comfort place.
His new work also stars the top actress. Slowly but surely they build a connection and become lovers.

Oh My Ladylord Peak Points

Romantic Scenes

High on saccharine frames, the first 10 episodes of the series cushioned the disappointing ending. It’s easy to cheer for romance to happen between the prickly writer and vibrant actress who are brought together by fate. A lot of credit has to be given to Lee Min Ki, Nana and Kang Min Hyuk for giving spirited portrayals in keeping the love story thriving.

Gifting a few sweet kissing frames plus mushy nevertheless heart-fluttering moments, helped a lot in accepting the shallow depth of the narrative.

Special Focus To Family Relationship and Friendship

Opting to mix the senior characters’ camp in a chirpy mood was a great choice. Oh My Ladylord unveiled its story with the faintest amount of negativity. Apart from that, the sprinkled love, life and career pep talks would truly encourage people on a downbeat vibe.

Those reasons contributed a lot to forego the reality of a missed-ever-after-love story. Honestly, no matter how much I tried to process Bi-soo’s borrowed time, the fantasy element is really not a convincing pitch for me. But with that problem carried by the main hero of the story, he was able to present his character development.

Oh My Ladylord Series Musings

Establishing the male lead’s “vanishing act” conflict early on helped us prepared for the inevitable. It even gave a subtle warning not to ask why.

So, I also decided to be obedient and accept that his character’s purpose is to shed light on two messages about human interaction often disregarded. One, to communicate well to better know what the person is like. Two, to not bottle up emotions because it might reach an escalated state that you can no longer remove it from your system.

But even now, I still wonder why he had to vanish, and why was he not given a condition to do something so that he won’t vanish.

Bi-soo changed for the better by allowing Joo-in to enter his life. Warming up his cold outlook, he found a way to emancipate himself from the trauma caused by his step-father. Often, the “power of love’ is used to salvage the plot of a drama. That’s why I was waiting for it to happen in the series. But it did not.

I pondered overnight to think of what the drama achieved as a lingering message. But there’s nothing I could think of except valuing our loved ones when we still have time to do so.

A safe bet if you like romance stories, Oh My Ladylord is good to watch while it lasts. But it definitely won’t have a distinct recall.
