A diamond in the rough took us on a roller coaster ride by setting the tone completely different in the latest episode of Today’s Webtoon.
Ma-eum succeeds in convincing writer Kang-nam and gets her hard work and effort recognized. Meanwhile, Mr. Heo offered Jun-yeong a shocking deal, putting him in a tough spot. Furthermore, she strangely creates a connection with a young man who happens to draw other people’s faces including her.

Today’s Webtoon Episode 4 Highlights
As a producer, Ma-eum realized she needs to work together with writer Kang-nam to save the webtoon’s plummeting quality.
Ma-eum rushes to his studio and insists that he revise his latest draft. As his avid fan and loyal reader, she knows that he’s capable of doing much better.
“When I read the revised version, I realized that he could totally do it. I was being soft on him, and it nearly ruined the webtoon and Mr. Na as well.”
Kang-nam burst out and quickly went back to work and pulled an all-nighter. Eventually, Kang-nam delivers a vastly improved draft.
Meanwhile, Ma-eum stayed all night too. When Ji-Hyung comes into the office the next morning, he sees Ma-eum sleeping and the pages of brainstorming that Ma-eum wrote to improve Kang-nam’s website.
A heart-fluttering moment happens between them when Ji-hyung put a blanket on the sleeping Ma-eum.
“I just wanted to draw the faces of those who are alive, I only see people who are ill, patients facing death, or doctors’ expressionless faces. So, when I’m trying to draw, I’m at a loss as to how to depict ordinary people’s faces and facial expressions.”
On a rainy day, an old man was pulling his cart of scrap cardboard. He is followed by a young man with a frantic look in his eyes.
With a sketchbook in his hand, he attempts to draw his features on paper. However, he ends up blocking his way.
Ma-eum comes across the pair and pulls the young man to the side so she can help the old man pull his cart away. She comes back to talk to the young man and finds out that he was drawing her face.
We’ve come to know the young man as Shin Dae-ryuk, a hospital orderly who draws webtoons as an escape from his dull and dark reality.
The NEON Webtoon Service Team’s annual Webtoon Camp finally began, where aspiring webtoon authors gather for an overnight retreat to enhance their skills.
As he continues to draw late at night, Ma-eum recognizes him from their first encounter and strikes up a conversation with him.
It was a heartwarming scene where Dae-ryuk explained to Ma-eum why he was sketching and observing people.
It turns out he works in a hospital surrounded by dead and dying patients, and he wants to depict ordinary people’s faces and facial expressions in his sketches.
“You remind me of someone I know.”
Jun-yeong looks like he’s finally having fun being a producer. Ever since Man-cheol and Ma-eum pushed him toward the right path, he’s been willing to humble himself down, and it’s been such a fresh breath of air for him.
He might not see it yet, but he’s a lot more capable than he thinks. Not only was he able to convince Pomme to participate in the webtoon camp as a mentor, but he was also able to encourage her to realize that there are so many people who look up to her.
The way Jun-yeong lights up whenever he receives recognition for his work is heartwarming to see.
Furthermore, he sees Ma-eum about to go for a run one morning, and the ever adorable and playful Ma-eum challenged him to a race.
After the race, Jun-yeong ends up buying Ma-eum a coffee because he saw that Ma-eum was wearing ankle weights while running.
Meanwhile, while drinking coffee he suddenly remembers someone while looking at Ma-eum, this gives a glimpse of Jun-yeong’s past which heightens the curiosity of the viewers.
“No matter what you tell me, I won’t quit drawing comics.”
Dae-ryuk’s webtoon story is intriguing; his genre is different from others. However, his current art skills aren’t up to par. That’s why he was mocked by two arrogant and boastful campers, who purposely knocked over a bottle of water onto Dae-ryuk’s tablet.
Subsequently, it escalates into a physical fight, and one of the guys raises a fist to strike Dae-ryuk. Luckily, Jun-yeong mediates. However, the guys smack him away and shove Dae-ryuk to the floor.
He advances intimidatingly upon Ma-eum, and that seems to trigger something in Dae-ryuk that shows something about his past when he was young.
His vision clouds over, and dark stems begin curling their way around him, just like Feeb the monster in his webtoon. A cliff-hanging scene erupts where a glimpse of Dae-ryuk’s dark childhood unveils.
Today’s Webtoon Episode 4 Musings
This episode took us on a wholly different ride, we’ve barely met Dae-ryuk and we already had a peek at his childhood. His silent perseverance is heartwarming.
Seeing how life has dealt him a tough hand, the way he flinched from Ma-eum’s touch coupled with a brief flashback of a scared child.
Dae-ryuk seems to be struggling with childhood trauma and drawing his webtoon must be his outlet. Expect that Dae-ryuk’s story will melt our hearts.
Also, thanks to our Ma-eum who recognized Dae-ryuk’s potential. We can see he has a compelling talent for storyboarding.
Moreover, a smiling Jun-Yeong is something we didn’t know we needed. It was a breath of fresh air watching Jun-yeong finally doing better at his job as a producer of the NEON Webtoon Team.
However, we are all wondering who is that woman. It seems like there’s more to it, especially since he was reminded of her while staring at Ma-eum.
Lastly, Chief Heo, on the other hand, appears to have a plan to sabotage the webtoon service team, and he proposes to Jun-yeong that he “dispose of the bomb” himself.
Jun-yeong was put in a tough spot as he is now starting to adjust and finally enjoying his job as a producer for the webtoon service team.
