On developing his acting skills as Choi Jae Joon

For Hwang Chan Sung, accepting his role as an antagonist is a stepping stone for him as an actor. He expressed, “In my previous dramas like “My Horrible Boss” (JTBC), “What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim” (tvN), and “Queen for Seven Days” (KBS2), I never played a villain before. None of my previous roles were villainous characters like JJ.”

Taking the next step as a villain is challenging for the actor. Being one with the character and understanding its backstory is essential for Hwan Chan Sung. “The most difficult thing was thinking of how to integrate the lines and feelings in the script into the character’s image,” the actor added.

Even though portraying him as an antagonist is challenging for him, he still “wishes to play a villain.”

On understanding Choi Jae Joon’s upbringing

Hwan Chan Sung describes his character as a “very pitiful character.” Choi Jae Joon grew up in a family with responsibilities that weigh on his shoulder. He never received love and care from his family, affecting his interpersonal relationship.

Even though Hwan Chan Sung and Choi Jae Joon have conflicting characters, the actor depicted JJ’s emotion and enactment.

When asked the similarities and differences between them, the actor answered, “The most difficult thing was thinking of how to integrate the lines and feelings in the script into the character’s image.”

He continued, “There were flashback scenes of JJ’s past, so even though I understood and shaped this character under my analysis, I can’t entirely say that we are similar in terms of everyday life.”
