Extraordinary Attorney Woo Episode 12 Highlights
In the last episode, kiss # 2 happened for the “whale couple”. Unknown to them, Young-woo’s father saw their sweet moment. Kwon Min-woo also made a deal with Tae Su-mi to make sure that Young-woo will leave Hanbada law firm soon.
“If one of the employees of a married couple does not voluntarily resign, the husband will be subjected to unpaid leave.”
Episode 12 of Extraordinary Attorney Woo brings in the case of two female employees forced to voluntarily resign from their jobs because of restructuring. Their husbands get to keep their jobs, even though they are both exemplary employees. As such the case raised uses gender discrimination as a strong argument.
Facing a formidable lawyer who specializes in labor suits; Young-woo and Su-yeon saw a problem coming since the judge handling the case is Judge Ryu who hails from Pungsan Ryu clan. The lawyer they will oppose also came from the same clan.
On the day of the first trial, Lawyer Ryu makes a sound argument about how gender discriminating Mir Life company is to their female employees. She cites how females are supposed to relent and be called a housewife since the Patriarchal society of the country favors it.
Min-woo moves to his mission of making Young-woo leave Hanbada by appealing to her upright attitude. He discloses how Hanbada gave a sound opinion of the restructuring plan to be done by Mir Life that will not be illegal.
Confronting Lawyer Jung, Young-woo blabs about how lawyers should make the world a better place. But her senior reiterates that their jobs do not involve it because they primarily need to defend clients. He asserts to let the judge decide on the case.
“There’s no other place that is more active in public service than a big law firm.”
On another “whale couple” date; Young-woo and Jun-ho spend time together while doing a protest to free dolphins inside an aquarium center. Sharing her woes about difficult decisions that her job entails, he advises taking time because her problem is something that only she can also work on.
Jun-ho’s reasonable explanation of how big law firms technically aid a lot in public service made Young-woo’s rumination even harder.
In the next trial, Young-woo goes to their plan of implying one of the plaintiffs has an ulterior motive for the lawsuit. Carrying out Hanbada’s strategy, she made a well-founded pitch.
Bumping on Lawyer Ryu in the courthouse, Young-woo receives counseling that falls for what she really believes as a lawyer. Their conversation was also witnessed by Min-woo who pointed out to the team the strange interaction.
At night, Min-woo steals confidential information about the case and sends it to Lawyer Ryu. However, she presents different evidence which might turn the tables for them.
On the day of the final verdict, Judge Ryu rules in favor of the defendant. He explains that the gender discrimination asserted not to be true since the married couple has the option to choose who will leave or stay.
Despite not winning the trial, Lawyer Ryu and the plaintiffs remain optimistic to fight for job security and equality. Later, the three invite Su-yeon and Young-woo for an after-party where Lawyer Ryu recites an encouraging poem about finding life’s purpose.
“You were kissing right in front of the house. But what? You are not in a relationship?!”
Relaying the intricacies of words and tone hidden behind words to her father at night, Young-woo’s father finally confronts her daughter if she is dating someone. Surprised about her response of just going out on dates and not yet formalizing it, he urges her to bring Jun-ho home.
The next time, Jun-ho walked Young-woo home; she vigilantly searches for her father’s show which confused him. She shares that her father witnessed their last kiss and was asked to bring him home properly.
Thinking they are not yet dating; she does not think that it’s proper to do that. Baffled at how they are still in a binding romantic relationship; Jun-ho honestly conveys how he has done things out of his affection for her.
He explains how the date list she made is not fun and looks back on the time they picked up trash at Hangang River because it was included in the list. Acting like an adorable couple, they bicker on the dates they’ve been through that are always favorable for Young-woo.
Confessing how he went on those dates because he likes her; Jun-ho expressed feeling disappointed that they are not to the same conclusion about the status of their relationship.
Extraordinary Attorney Woo Episode 12 Musings
Sending strong women empowering messages in a patriarchal country aligns with relevant social issues that Extraordinary Attorney Woo has been gifting the viewers. By presenting real stories in the cases featured in each episode, the series appeals more to a wide range of audiences.
We love the optimism displayed by Lawyer Ryu and the plaintiffs she represented. They embody how women should have an identity of their own; and have a place in a career they work hard to earn.
Worrying about Lawyer Jung is expected. Let’s hope it’s nothing serious. We are already wishing for Su-yeon’s love journey so it would be a handful if he will break our hearts.
Of course, Min-woo won’t stop until he completes his mission. Hopefully, Young-woo picks up on Lawyer Ryu’s reminder to be wary of people with bad intentions about her.
If you look at it closely, the fact that Jun-ho shares his unfiltered thoughts with Young-woo about her obliviousness that they are really actually dating means a lot to their special relationship.
Because Young-woo has a different way of processing things and she hasn’t dated technically; she won’t understand the normal circumstances and rules of dating that people have common knowledge about.
Instinctively, she reacts to the strange emotions she feels about him. But she really needs him to be always specific with how they are going to proceed with the “special relationship” they have.
In the preview, we see a possible meet-the-family moment; but it appears to dishearten Young-woo. The penultimate week is up for Team Hanbada and they are going to Jeju island for a case that will also give them their much-deserve break.
Celebrate the colorful courtroom life of Woo Young-woo in Extraordinary Attorney Woo! International fans can watch the series on Netflix.
