The Veil Episode 3 Key Moments
“I need to find him to bring back my memories. I’m sure he has a clue.”
Losing consciousness from the aftermath of the police station mayhem, Han Ji-hyuk (Namgoong Min) wakes up remembering a possible clue to his mission. Deducing Lee Choon Gil as his starting point, he sets forth to follow that lead.
He asks his superiors to take a week off and was easily given the break by *Deputy Commissioner Jo. Surrendering his badge and gun, Director Kang thinks it’s dangerous to let him go. But DC Jo assures him that if Ji-hyuk moves on his own, he will solely be held liable for that.
She is also curious about where he will be heading not knowing that Ji-hyuk is already resolute on not trusting anyone while he probes the investigation alone.
However, a variable arises to his plan with his new passionate partner, Yoo Je-yi (Kim Ji Eun), who wants to be involved in what he’s trying to do. Agreeing to her request, he asks her to track Choon-gil’s aunt to snoop information from her.
“You know that the higher-ups are fighting for power. It’s kept hidden, but it’s practically a war.”
Ji-hyuk visits an informant and learns about another figure hiding in the shadow controlling the drug and information on the Chinese border.
She also briefs him of the growing power struggle within the organization. It involves the connivance of Huayang Gang and the opposition party. She deems the gang is also in a bind.
Je-yi obtains information through her chat with Choon-gil’s grandmother. When Ji-hyuk attempts to operate on his own, she imposes her presence. Getting to Choon-gil’s hideout was easy, especially subduing his minions.
But things get more confusing when Choon-gil insists he gave the intel to him about Huayang Gang leader – Hwang Moo Sool’s intended whereabout.
Without a part of his memories, Choon-gil fills him in with the story of what happened the day his partners died. Ji-hyuk listens as he divulged how he tipped him to leave before the gang gets to their safehouse. He also alerted him that someone from the NIS was betraying him so he can’t trust anyone.
Unfortunately, Choon-gil can’t help him with Hwang Moo-sool since he is known to be notoriously elusive. He also feeds him about his engagement with drug dealings at the moment.
When Ji-hyuk asks why he did not call the emergency number he provided, Choon-gil responds how he does not know anything and escapes the car they were riding.
“Always make the other person think they are using me. That is our motto.”
Back at NIS, the directors and superiors of Ji-hyuk are focused on Hwang Jang Cheol. Director Kang senses something odd on the report given by Information Center Chief, Ha Dong-kyun and calls the information center team to send the report again to him.
Looping Je-yi with a scoop, he presents the invoices Choon-gil purposely left in his car seat. But before she gets pumped up to their work, Ji-hyuk shared a monstrous drug deal that will happen soon. He asks her to work on a clue first.
Receiving a call from Director Kang, Ji-hyuk briefly affirms his plan for Huayang Gang. But the director warns him that he is being used that’s why DC Do is letting him do what he wants to do. Director Kang orders him to stop, but he assures his senior that everything is under his control.
Promising two days to find Hwang Moo Sool, Ji-hyuk also gives the invoices to Director Kang. Meanwhile, Je-yi officially meets Seo Soo Yeon who warns her not to get too close to Ji-hyuk.
It took a while for Je-yi to crack the string of numbers given by Ji-hyuk. She reports that the massive shipment would be on a large container by a Chinese company. They arrange to meet at Incheon since the container already arrived at the port.
“You are trapped here just like I am.”
Apparently, Ji-hyuk was set on a trap by Hwang Moo-sool and was later taken to a safe house as a captive. There, the crazy villain put him on a series of torturing activities to avenge his son which was killed by Ji-hyuk.
Moo-sool confidently let him down by sharing his tracker is already useless, and there’s no one to rescue him. Taunting the delusional villain, Ji-hyuk pities him more for his situation who has nowhere to go, and no supply routes to get his drug business going.
Moo-sool’s response is revealing a lab with an expert North Korean chemist concocting drugs. His body is tattoed with the recipe of the drugs. The villain proudly declares how the drug lab is a history-breaking moment for not attracting attention since it does not smell and uses a different method.
On his cue, Je-yi calls for a backup, while Ji-hyuk fights with Moo-sool’s minions at the hotel’s penthouse. Subduing the gang members, he spots Choon-gil whom he still wants to save. However, he stops Ji-hyuk since he knows he can no longer survive.
Commanded by mysterious Baek Moo Sa to halt his activity, Moo-sool escapes with his right hand. It appears he only communicates with the mastermind villain orchestrating his gang’s movements through phone calls and has not met him yet.
The Veil Episode 3 Musings
Remember not to watch The Veil before you go to bed. It was a mistake for me because the intense fight sequences totally raised my body’s adrenaline to a meteoric high. Honestly, Christmas came too early for this series. It appears like we are going to unravel layers of villains hiding and conspiring with each other along the way.
In the dark and doubtful world of Ji-hyuk, the emergence of Je-yi’s character hopefully summon the kind of humanity that our hero will not deprive himself of. His new junior’s assessment of being cold, distant and nothing to protect is the exact opposite of Je-yi’s vision to be strong so she can give protection.
However, behind Je-yi’s cheerful demeanor, we got a glimpse that she, too, has something going on. An elaborated map pointing to avenge her father. With every character surrounding Ji-hyuk seems to be really suspicious, I’m beginning to think he did the right job to erase his memories. *chuckles
More cryptic clues are also unveiled involving DC Do who received an email of photos captured at the hotel’s penthouse. Wanting to divide the good and the bad in The Veil’s fictional NIS setting right now feels like finding a needle in a haystack.
I hope we also get to the bottom of angsty Chief Seo soon. This series is really pushing my trust issues, to be honest. I hope before crossing the midpart, my heart can assess who to hate and to love.
Mind games and looming betrayals are expected to decorate The Veil. Will Ji-hyuk make the right call on where he will be placing his trust. Without his memories, can he rely on his deduction skills to solve the mystery he placed on himself?
Go full speed on the thrilling story of The Veil on Viu!
