Curtain Call Episodes 13 and 14 Highlights

“It does feel a bit hollow. It’s possible to feel sad about paths not taken.”

Jae-heon confesses to Se-yeon, but Se-yeon dodges it by telling him that she likes him as her cousin, Moon-seong. In the morning, Yoon-hee tells Se-yeon that she likes Jae-heon, and confirms how Se-yeon sees Jae-heon.

Prioritizing meeting Moon-seong, Se-yeon arranges a way to lure him into a hotel room under their grandmother’s name. She asks him to stay away from their grandmother since he only wants money, but Moon-seong clarifies his intention of making their grandmother feel the same pain he and his father experienced.

Meanwhile, Jae-heon takes Chairwoman Ja on a trip. Asked where she wants to go, the chairwoman chooses to go to the south instead of the north part of the country which she frequents.

“The end I knew was approaching, but it’s an end I can’t prevent even though I prepared for it.”

Mr. Jeong leaves Moon-seong a briefcase, but he is uninterested in its contents, so he hands it to his former boss to secure Jin-suk’s surgery. He then cries up reading the letter sent by his wife.

Chairwoman Ja enjoys her time with Se-yeon and Jae-heon, who resembles her, and Jong-mun, her first husband.

Left for a while, Chairwoman Ja falls unconscious in a wheelchair. A flashback shows the time she meets Jong-mun for the first time. She caters to him who came down from Manchuria to visit his hometown for the last time before studying.

In the hospital, Se-yeon consoles and appreciates Jae-heon for making the chairwoman happy, but Se-jun comes to punch him.

“The deeper your love, the deeper your regrets.”

Se-gyu feels betrayed after realizing everyone but him and Ji-won knew about Jae-heon and Yoon-hee. Following their agreement, Jae-heon and Yoon-hee leave the house of Chairwoman Ja.

Despite ending their act, Jae-heon and Yoon-hee feel like their job isn’t fully done yet. Jae-heon comforts Se-yeon who is crying, and Dong-jae walks back after seeing it.

The hotel’s stock price rises, which could make it difficult to be sold. Se-jun then walks his way into Se-yeon’s office, adamant to sell the hotel even though their grandmother is unconscious.

He then announces that Moon-seong will be living with them, and discusses the hotel sale. Disappointed in the inappropriate talks of inheritance, Mr. Jeong tells them to blame their fates, instead of the chairwoman who has been kind throughout her life.

“In life, you need to hit rock bottom before you can start rising to the top.”

Jae-heon decides to write up a play called the Curtain Call, inspired by his experience with Chairwoman Ja. Together with Yoon-hee, with whom he involves, they readily shoulder its production costs.

Appreciating Jae-heon, Se-gyu calls him out. Interested in acting after seeing Jae-heon enthusiastic and accepting its cons, Se-gyu gets offered to cast in the play Jae-heon prepared.

Back to a flashback of Chairwoman Ja, she meets Jong-mun again even after being kicked out of her old workplace. As Jong-mun tells her that he can’t stop thinking about her and wishes to stay by her side, Chairwoman Ja’s fingers move at present.

Curtain Call Episodes 13 and 14 Musings

Initially, it feels like Mr. Jeong and Se-yeon were too soon in their assumptions that Moon-seong merely appeared again for money. His character must’ve felt overwhelmed by being unwanted by people close to his grandmother in a new land.

All he wanted was to meet his grandmother, the same as Chairwoman Ja wished. Now that the chairwoman is in her last moments, what’s best for their grandmother is for Chairwoman Ja to decide.

Hopefully, she still gets to meet Moon-seong in her remaining moments and react similarly to the way Se-gyu and the rest lightly accepted the truth about Jae-heon and Yoon-hee.

Jae-heon’s prepared final performance called the Curtain Call could be the best way to conclude the act created by Mr. Jeong. It just serves as a fitting analogy and side-by-side depiction of their reality.

Though the direction of Se-yeon’s romantic interest cannot be clearly drawn, we can still look forward to her cooperation in the play Jae-heon will be producing along with Yoon-hee for Chairwoman Ja.
