Curtain Call

Curtain Call Episode 4 Highlights

“You run around, taking care of everyone else, but it seems you don’t know how to take care of yourself.”

Unfazed by Dong-jae’s intimidation, Jae-heon grabs Se-yeon’s hand walking away from Dong-jae. Se-yeon tries to protect Jae-heon from the glass he dropped, which leads them to appreciate each other as family.

Impressed with Yoon-hee’s singing, Chairwoman Ja genuinely smiles along with Se-jun’s wife and Jeong-suk. Witnessing that rare happiness, Se-gyu takes a picture of his grandmother.

Jae-heon saves Se-yeon’s number, and he and Yoon-hee get invited to golf together. Panicking at the fact that both of them know how to golf, Yoon-hee suggests that Jae-heon act sick on that day.

However, Se-yeon gifts them golfing clothes that night, which makes it harder for them to refuse the invite. Although they already planned how to act like beginners, Jae-heon and Yoon-hee’s proficiency in golf gets slightly noticed.

“The more suspicious they are, the more you have to push forward.”

Se-gyu rants again to his older brother, and Se-jun talks about the possibility that their younger cousin is not blood-related. With that, he suggests running a DNA test.

Taking Jae-heon to a club at night, Se-gyu drinks together with him and straightforwardly asks him to take a paternity test since Se-jun is suspicious. Acting defensively, Jae-heon and Se-gyu get interrupted by a woman Se-gyu cannot remember.

Angered by that, they get into a brawl. Taking that opportunity, Jae-heon plucks some of Se-gyu’s hair, which he later gives to him when he agrees to take the DNA test.

Knowing that Se-gyu is uninterested in Nakwon, Jae-heon gives him a pep talk about his direction in life. Touched with their conversation that night, Se-gyu loses his doubts about Jae-heon, so he hands Jae-heon’s hair sample to Se-jun.

Reporting to Mr. Jeong what happened to him the other night, Jae-heon assures him he did a great move in agreeing with the DNA test while using Se-gyu’s hair. Clever enough with his move, Jae-heon succeeds with his plans as Se-jun sees that the DNA was a match.

“No one knows what tomorrow brings.”

Enjoying the sea view together, Chairwoman Ja shares with Jae-heon how Mr. Jeong was a troublemaker before. He then gets called by Se-yeon, who presents to him her eight-province excursion project.

Jae-heon politely declines her offer of volunteering as their guide since as a couple, they promised to travel freely unpressured with time.

Yoon-hee and Jae-heon then inform Chairwoman Ja of their travel plans, naming Sunnyland, Mt. Seoraksan, and the East Sea as their destinations for seven days. Delighted to hear about that, Chairwoman Ja hands them a bundle of cash as travel allowance, which Jae-heon initially modestly refuses.

Mr. Jeong visits an orphanage run by nuns. He hears about Jae-heon, who used to live there, donating a hefty amount of money. Enjoying their free time outside, Yoon-hee learns that her mom is handling the mergers and acquisitions case of Nakwon.

On the other end, Jae-heon withdraws all his money to visit his car dealer friend No-kwang. Told that he can’t buy the car displayed, Jae-heon flexes his cash and takes the car. Partying together in the club, Jae-heon sees and hides from Se-gyu who takes a look at who the top customer is.

“It’s the same sea, but the waves were so cruel and unkind to me.”

Waking up the next day and regaining his senses, Jae-heon begs No-kwang to get his money back. After doing so, he deposits it right away.

Preparing for their return, Yoon-hee and Jae-heon take pictures using printed backgrounds of their said travel destinations. Jae-heon receives a call from Se-yeon, and he and Yoon-hee convince them that they’re having fun on Jeju Island.

Mr. Jeong drops the investigation on Ri Moon-seong and efforts to bring him to Seoul, confusing the private investigator.

In her sleep, Chairwoman Ja dreams of seeing her husband Jong-mun. Reunited, they walk together to the light in her dream while she experiences pain while sleeping. Se-yeon wakes up tearing up, and searches for her grandmother.

Curtain Call Episode 4 Musings

Instead of taking the cliché route of running a DNA test secretly, Se-gyu’s straightforward move makes it refreshing. Adding to that, Jae-heon’s bravery to agree to it using Se-gyu’s hair is just clever to silence suspicions. However, it also opens the question if it really was Se-gyu’s hair he retrieved.

Se-yeon’s sincerity and dedication as an older cousin can be felt in her initiative to let Jae-heon and Yoon-hee experience the best life in Seoul. However, since the two are already familiar with it, acting inexperienced becomes a harder job for them.

Having said that familiarity with Seoul life, Jae-heon’s impulsive financial decisions could make your head shake. While he is enjoying, the tense feeling of him being caught can be felt outside the screen.

Dreaming of her grandmother in her young days, Se-yeon can be seen at the end of the episode worrying about Chairwoman Ja, whose state is worsening.

Given that her days are nearing, it appears that Jae-heon will be pushed to join the management of Hotel Nakwon by starting at the bottom. Although he initially denied joining the family business, the preview that was shown hints at an incoming conflict.
