Lovers of the Red Sky Episode 6 Key Moments
“Painting boulders black when they are traditionally left white shows the painter’s great courage and decisiveness.”
At the second round of the contest, Prince Yangmyeong hears from the painters their explanation for their painting. Cheon Gi’s painting of the boulders catches the prince’s attention as he wonders whether she is just showing off her brush skills.
After remaining silent, she explains that the boulders she painted depict the first thing she has seen during the first rain after the long drought when she was young.
She adds how that was the first thing she has seen after being blind as a child, and also reminisces about the boy with whom she picked peaches with when she was young. Moving the hearts of the listeners, Cheon Gi moves forward to the final round.
“People are not moved by a painter’s skill. They’re moved by the painter’s sincerity that seeps into the paper. “
Sitting together for a meal after the first day of the contest, Prince Yangmyeong wittingly asks Cheon Gi about the butterflies in her painting. Nervous about being the painter of imitations, Cheon Gi denies Prince Yangmyeong’s assumption that the butterfly is her mark as a painter.
Prince Yangmyeong asks Cheon Gi to talk outside, and he confronts her about being a painter of imitations. He lectures Cheon Gi about the act of painting without principles means she has no identity as a painter.
She tears up after hearing that what moves people’s hearts is the painter’s sincerity, and her talents are a waste if she doesn’t have those.
“Even if an old stallion is kept in a stable, it still wishes to run.”
Later that night, Prince Yangmyeong meets up with his older brother, Prince Joohyang. Fronting his plans, Prince Joohyang boldly requests Prince Yangmyeong to support his interests in coveting the throne.
However, Prince Yangmyeong does not agree with his intentions and plans. Prince Joohyang warns him, but Prince Yangmyeong remains firm on his decision of not supporting Prince Joohyang’s greed for the throne.
“I don’t know, but what happened to you is out of our control. It’s not your fault. Don’t blame yourself over what wasn’t your fault.
Troubled with a lot of things, Cheon Gi stays at a stable, thinking about how she’s discouraged from continuing to the final round by Master Choi. Her mind is also clouded by what Prince Yangmyeong told her about painting with no sincerity. To top those, she is also pressured to obtain the medicine for her father’s sickness.
Scholar Ha finds his way to the stable, and he imparts comforting words to Cheon Gi. The words that Scholar Ha has said are the exact words that Ha Ram has said to Cheon Gi when they were still young, which strengthens her hunches. They ride the horse together, and they arrive at the same place where they stayed after picking peaches together before.
“That’s why you must forget too. You must do nothing. That’s the only way you won’t get hurt. “
Sitting next to each other, Cheon Gi and Scholar Ha exchange words that also resemble their conversation from the past. Cheon Gi reaches out to Scholar Ha’s hand so that he may feel Cheon Gi’s face similar to what she has done to his face when she was blind.
Certain about her hunches, Cheon Gi asks Scholar Ha if he is the boy from her past, and they share a passionate kiss together.
The physical touch and kiss have a negative effect on Ha Ram as it disturbs the demon inside. Seeing a pit of fire and worried about bringing harm to Cheon Gi, Ha Ram denies that he is the boy from the past.
“You asked me to forget you. But I can’t forget you, just as how we can’t erase a stroke that has been drawn.”
In the final round, Cheon Gi amazes Prince Yangmyeong with her interpretation and techniques. She wins a lot of votes, and she wins first place. The auction of the painting troubles Cheon Gi as no one has started to bid on her painting.
However, in the end, Cheon Gi’s work becomes the painting with the highest bid. Scholar Ha obtains the painting after bidding the highest with 300 sacks of rice.
Lovers of the Red Sky Episode 6 Musings
Painting without sincerity is a waste of talent as said by Prince Yangmyeong. Cheon Gi may have earned money through that practice, but surely it does not help her grow as a painter. Prince Yangmyeong calling her out is helpful as it shakes her up on the choices she makes with regard to her dream.
Prince Yangmyeong rejecting his older brother’s offer to join hands just shows how he is a man of integrity. Even though there may be a lot of gains with that path, Prince Yangmyeong chooses to remain loyal to his role as a member of the royal family. His morals are inspiring and something to look up to.
Ha Ram riding a horse despite being blind can spark questions on its possibility in real life. There are still chances for it to happen in real life, and only a number of people from the community can do so, which somehow justifies the event in the episode. Nonetheless, his scene with Cheon Gi maintained its romantic atmosphere, and it hurts to see how he asked Cheon Gi to forget about him.
With the support from the people around her, Cheon Gi is starting to grow as a painter. Prince Yangmyeong’s reprimand on her practices may have hurt her feelings, but this helps her lead the right direction in her career.
By the end of the episode, we see Cheon Gi’s father bumping into Prince Joohyang. We shall see how that meeting will affect Cheon Gi’s possible reward. Moreover, viewers shall also look forward to how Ha Ram would manage his feelings for Cheon Gi in the future episodes.
