One The Woman

One The Woman Episode 9 Key Moments

“You once said to me that there would be many things I could do because I didn’t know my past. You were right. Now that I’ve regained my memory and know my past, there are things that I simply can’t do.”

Sung-hye and Seung-wook engage in a cold verbal spat bringing out the former’s misgiving which left a scar on her cousin.

In visiting her father, Yeon-ju chides him for not realizing that apart from the pain he caused their family, there are other people too, who suffered from the fire he set up. She also vows not to see him anymore in the future.

Yeon-ju asks Seung-wook to meet as he runs down the possible feats he can see on the horizon in their outsmarting game with Sung-hye. However, she responds somberly about her predicament. Bringing him to a columbarium, she introduces her grandmother. She comes clean about her identity as the arsonist’s daughter who killed his father. Intent to cut their ties, Seung-wook refuses citing she’s not responsible for what her father did.

Rambling about her situation to Yu-jun, she’s not aware that Seung-wook has taken a ride with her uncles who diligently snoops on his relationship with Yeon-ju. She gets up to leave and tells him to help Seung-wook with the case. But she bumps into him in front of the building.

Yu-jun stops Seung-wook from persisting to speak with Yeon-ju and tells him to give her space.

“Usually, she talks back to me every time I say something. But this time, all she said was that she was sorry.”

Meanwhile, Lee Bong-sik is making it hard for Yeon-ju to retrieve the evidence she needs. He taunts her about his knowledge of her double life so she’s left with no choice but to bluff. Shutting him up to follow her lead, Yeon-ju contemplates her still non-existent plan on how she’s going to protect him from Hanju Group.

Assuring Bong-sik that he will be protected at the detention center, he gets agitated when he sees a familiar man who is connected with the thugs hired by Hanju.

Lawyer No reads the case files of Hanju Fashion fire. The crime which appears beautifully plated matches Hanju groups scheming ways. Seung-wook affirms Yeon-ju has since changed feeling sorry for what her father did. His emotions also burst at the thought of acquiescing to Yeon-ju’s request to cut ties without asking his opinion. Because it opened inner pains, he has been bearing all his life.

“You don’t have to be perfect to be confident of yourself.”

While driving Yeon-ju, Lawyer No encourages her not to overthink and wallow in self-esteem for having a loser father. Thanks to her reliable driver-secretary, her mood lightens. But it did not last long because Mina’s husband’s mistress approached her spewing her charade. Sung-woon steps in to put his old lover in her place. Later, he finds a medical prescription that is not his wife’s name.

Sung-hye faces the family’s inquisition about the reinspection Seung-wook threw at her. She asks Yeon-ju to meet her cousin but she refuses using the rumors about them as leverage. Chairman Han chides his daughter for being careless and always relying on his connection to the prosecutors.

Sung-woon adds to Sung-hye’s bad evening as he also reminds her not to always look down on him.

Another person is worried about his situation as Prosecutor Ryu ponders on Yeon-ju’s words of eliminating all the bad guys at once.

At the prison, Lee Bong-sik was taken care of in a staged suicide with a note. His death also implicates Kang Mi-na.

“You have become a habit. A part of myself that never goes away.”

Wallowing in alcohol with Yu-jun, Yeon-ju voices out her unfortunate fate of finally getting a headstart to investigate her grandma’s case, only to miss it again.

Trying to straighten her out, Yu-jun reminds her of the possibility of investigating Kang Mina, so she asks what she will do.
Yeon-ju confronts Yu-jun if he still has feelings for her and a quick throwback of their past drinking sessions reveal their special connection.

In a heartfelt reply, Yu-jun denies having feelings for her anymore since she has become a habit. She has become a part of him that never goes away.

One The Woman

Unknown to them, Seung-wook is observing from afar and he sees Yeon-ju holding Yu-jun’s hand when the latter asked her to hold it. It turns out that the two friends have been in the same situation before where Yeon-ju consoles Yu-jun for not being able to return his devotion.

Intoxicated Yeon-ju can’t open her place and accidentally sent SOS message to Seung-wook. He managed to unlock her door with her drunken clue which she probably forgot to tell when she dragged him to visit her grandmother. Spilling the same outburst of wanting to do what he wants and not caring of how she undervalues herself.

The mood, the words and the alcohol push Yeon-ju to lock her lips to Seung-wook’s as he returns her passionate kiss.

One The Woman Episode 9 Musings

Yeon-ju’s pain runs so deep in One The Woman. Her connection to her father billed as an arsonist who killed the man, she is starting to see in a romantic light causes inner conflict in her character. Hopefully, Lawyer No’s pep talk reaches her well since Sung-hye and her father are focused on their evil plans.

Yu-jun’s noona romance is giving a good fight to Yeon-ju and Seung-wook’s blooming one. The parade of flashbacks showing Yu-jun’s doting side to his favorite noona along with his heartfelt “you become a habit” confession was just utterly sweet.

Despite failing to have Yeon-ju reciprocate his unrequited love, it’s amazing how they have kept the level of friendship that sustains the romantic line one of them really wants to cross.

I’m betting Mi-na has Bong-sik’s list. She better be, since she has caused trouble so far. It’s only apt for her to contribute redeeming moments in the series.

Will the drunken kiss reinstate Yeon-ju and Seung-wook’s initial connection or will it just cause awkwardness between them?
