In this week’s episode, Man-chul and his colleagues paid a visit to artist Ma Hae-kyu in order to persuade him to allow NEON Webtoon to publish a remake of his legendary comics. However, things did not go well as he had expected.
Hoping to publish a remake of a hit and legendary comic on NEON Webtoon; Man-chul, Ma-eum, and Jun-yeong, paid a visit to artist Ma Hae-kyu’s house to persuade him.
However, it looks like the artist is not in good condition. Moreover, Jun-yeong and Ma-eum’s rookie artists make a sky-rocketing hot debut in their first episodes.

Today’s Webtoon Episode 9 Highlights
“Don’t abandon me. To me, you’re like the Almighty. People don’t like me and no one liked my work either but you were the first person who accepted me for who I was. You said I was valuable too and believed in me.”
Ma-eum and Jun-yeong rush to the police station because Dae-ryuk is a victim of a physical assault.
It turns out that he was out again practicing his sketches for the story plot that he was making. He tried to draw a woman. However, the woman was creeped out and her boyfriend assumed he was trying to harass her. The boyfriend immediately assaulted him.
Furthermore, because of the incident, Ma-eum is disappointed in Dae-ryuk because she wanted to give him the good news about his webtoon.
Dae-ryuk respects Ma-eum more than anyone else and gets scared that she will abandon him and not support him anymore. He apologizes to her for his behavior. Trying to please Ma-eum, he promises to be careful.
For Dae-ryuk, Ma-eum is the only one who believes in him, and when no one else did, she is the one who supported him, and he is very grateful to Ma-eum because of that.
Eventually, Ma-eum forgives him and tells him to not value his webtoon more than people.
“He still thinks he’s a big-shot comic book artist. No one even remembers him. To help him make a comeback, my mom worked herself to the bone before she died, I feel so bad for her. He’s a piece of garbage.”
Man-chul has finally located artist Ma Hae-kyu’s house and takes Ma-eum and Jun-yeong with him. The legendary comic book series, Please! Time Machine created by Ma Hae-kyu is being planned for a webtoon remake.
However, the artist’s house doesn’t look good and as they knock, no one answers the door. Subsequently, artist Ma’s daughter, Yu-na, arrives and lets them in.
It surprised them that Artist Ma had turned into an alcoholic and refused Man-chul’s proposal. He even threw water at Man-chul’s face as he discussed the proposal.
His poor daughter has to deal with him having to work along with studying because his father doesn’t do anything but stay inside his room and drink.
Additionally, the way she talks about her father in front of Man-chul obviously looks like she hates her father.
Before leaving, Ma-eum tells her to contact her if she needs anything. She then proceeds to give Yu-na her business card.
“Only good things await you from now on.”
Jun-yeong’s rookie artist Lee Woo-jin’s new webtoon, Full Count, has finally debuted on NEON and it has been receiving good reviews.
It is Jun-yeong’s first project as well, and he is proud of himself for the success of his first rookie artist as a webtoon producer.
Things are doing well at the NEON Webtoon service team, and Chief Heo does not like that. He then questions Jun-yeong if he is still working along with their plan. However, it is obvious that Jun-yeong is not.
On the bright side, Dae-ryuk’s webtoon, Weapon Feeb, debuts on the platform and works even better than Full Count.
Thus, yielding a heart-warming moment for Ma-eum and Dae-ryuk. She tells him that she is his number one fan and that she is proud of him. Dae-ryuk immediately burst into tears because of the support that he received from Ma-eum.
Also, Dong-hee, the former assistant of writer Baek, witnessed the hot shot debut of Weapon Feeb, saying that Dae-ryuk is cool while smiling as he reads the comments from the readers of Dae-ryuk’s webtoon.
The webtoon service team is in a good mood as both of their new webtoons are in the top five, which shows the webtoon camp was a success.
“You’re still my dad. I don’t need you to be a famous or genius cartoonist. I never needed that in the first place. Just be my dad, an ordinary dad.”
Ma-eum gets a call from Yu-na for help. She then invites Yu-na for a dinner and invites her to her comic book cafe.
Yu-na hated her father and his comics, but she finds out that her deceased mother also loved her father’s comics. After finding this out, she reads one for the first time.
Ma-eum drops Yu-na and runs into Ma-eum on her way back. She asks him to think whether his cartoons are his best masterpieces or if they are Yu-na.
Artist Ma simply shrugged off what Ma-eum had said and went home. Yu-na and Artist Ma get into a heated argument, and the father cries to his daughter that he has no identity if he is not a cartoonist.
Yu-na asks him to just be an ordinary father as he has already had his fame and glory as an artist.
Subsequently, Ma visits NEON and signs the contract for the remake of his comic books. He mentions to Man-chul that he is thankful to Ma-eum for showing him his real masterpiece.
Today’s Webtoon Episode 9 Musings
Episode 9 of Today’s Webtoon highlights what it’s like to be lost in something you used to love. It sheds light on the struggles an artist goes through when it comes to their art. Losing relevance in your field and refusing to accept the changes, in reality, are just a few of those struggles.
More importantly, the message communicates that no matter how lost you are, there will always be people who will be your light to guide you and find yourself again.
Furthermore, in the end, Artist Ma found his way back again, and that was to mend his relationship with his daughter, who now loves reading his comic books just like his wife.
Moreover, it looks like Jun-yeong has developed a crush on Ma-eum as they have been spending a lot of time together. It was adorable to watch them have their small ramyeon date.
Adding to that Jun-yeong and Ma-eum moment, he helped her pick up a gift for her father. However, her father refused to accept it.
Jun-yeong then stepped up and asked Ma-eum to give it to him, as if he was trying to confess his feelings to her.
Also, the mystery woman is Jun-yeong’s sister who passed away and acts as a guardian angel for him. It also appears that her sister, who died, is closely linked to the Gingertoon team, as some of Gingertoon’s past was revealed in the episode 10 teaser.
Lastly, Man-chul found out that Ji-hyung was the rumored candidate for YoungToon’s new chief editor.
A chief editor’s offer to Ji-hyung is a great opportunity for him. Ji-hyung seems to be torn between his memories and his loyalty to Man-chul.
