My Liberation Notes Episode 10 Highlights

“Misfortunes should come in small doses, but you keep stopping them and making them bigger.”

A flashback is shown, wherein Mr. Gu is on the payphone being encouraged to take down Baek as the opportunity opens, but he says that he is too exhausted to do that.

At present, Mi-jeong is aware that Mr. Gu is trying to scare her away by saying that the woman he used to be with has died. She comes in time to save him, nearly attacked by stray dogs. Instead of being grateful, Mr. Gu tells that the misfortune keeps getting bigger as she keeps on saving him.

Looking at the skies, Chang-hee comes to lie down with Mr. Gu, taking a picture together, and all go home afterward.

During the day, Chang-hee calls for services to handle stray dogs in their area. Meanwhile, at Chang-hee’s office, nobody wants to take A-reum as all of their superiors prefer him.

Worried for her own children, Chang-hee’s mother emphasizes how unsafe it could be to have stray dogs on the fields at night, but the men just leave the site with their traps. A car passes by the workshop, and Mr. Gu spots it, which makes the driver nervous about being caught.

Ready to exchange seats, Chang-hee chooses to sit next to A-reum, and listen to her on how to properly eat the meat that was served.

“Even with the same person, you can name a thousand of reasons to love them and a thousand reasons not to.”

Meeting to eat together, Hyeon-a reassures Mi-jeong that she is wearing shades just for fashion. Although the man she has recently dated trashed her place, Hyeon-a requests a reimbursement.

She gives him 15 as a score since he was not that bad, and did not make excuses when she caught him. Instead, he apologized right away like a puppy.

For Mi-jeong, she gives Mr. Gu a score above 15 since he also does not give any excuses. She jokes to Hyeon-a that she might mistake him for homeless.

Trying to understand what Mr. Gu meant that Mi-jeong scares him, Hyeon-a clearly gives her an answer that she probably sees right through his emotions.

Meanwhile, Gi-jeong who is having dinner with her workmates gets invited over by Gyeong-seon for octopus, stating that it is Tae-hoon’s treat as he owes her for handing the album.

Tae-hoon tries to disagree since he plans to treat her to a better meal. His daughter, Yu-rim, walks out and Gyeong-seon follows after her.

Unsure whether to go, Tae-hoon calls right in time to explain the situation and apologize for the sudden invite. Gi-jeong rushes over nervously, but Mr. Park sends her well wishes.

Arriving at Tae-hoon’s, Gi-jeong drinks soju and beer together and opens up about how she feels embarrassed about her past actions. However, she gets interrupted by Tae-hoon, who tells her that there is nothing to be embarrassed about since he is treating her because he is thankful for her.

Walking down to the restaurant, Gyeong-seon confronts Gi-jeong for what she said on Yu-rim’s birthday. Tae-hoon tries to mediate by explaining the situation, and defending Gi-jeong from his sisters.

Guilty for it, Gi-jeong sincerely apologizes, and hears how devoted aunts they are to their niece. Noticing Tae-hoon’s reaction, Gi-jeong reveals to his siblings that she confessed her feelings, and got rejected. Gyeong-seon comes up joyfully to tell Yu-rim they succeeded.

“That’s how life is. It seems to go well and then stabs you in the back.”

Following her brother’s request, Mi-jeong brings to Mr. Gu the new product Chang-hee asked her to bring. She clarifies that she was not using it as an excuse to see him, and asks him if he has anything to say.

Replying to that, Mr. Gu laughs at how she sounds like other girls that say the same things as if they owe them something.

Confronting him, Mi-jeong asks him whether it is easier to endure pain rather than enjoy happiness with the woman he likes. She then walks out of his house.

Visible in his improved mood in recent days, Chang-hee tells about how what he discovered while using the bathroom of Mr. Gu that has a bidet. Seeing the car key of his dream car, Chang-hee’s Imaginations of Mr. Gu goes beyond, and sees him as a savior he must get close with.

Sure that he is liked by Mr. Gu, Chang-hee does not feel bothered by anything A-reum does or says, and hopes for Mi-jeong to reconcile with Mr. Gu sooner.

Gi-jeong’s workmate complains about her closeness with Mr. Park. Still affected by what happened recently, Gi-jeong cries, but later laughs while crying after receiving Tae-hoon’s message that he is reminded of her when seeing Nirvana.

True to Chang-hee wishes, Mi-jeong breaks the silence, texting Mr. Gu that she is ready to continue their relationship regardless of who he is.

He then drives to Seoul to give the warning to stop lurking in Sanpo since he is just taking a break. Seeing the sinks in the place, he orders them to change it with sinks from Sanpo. He also reassures Sam-sik that he knows he was not the one who texted him on the train.

Coming to pick up Mi-jeong to eat together and go home, Chang-hee grabs the opportunity to ask about the car key. They come to Seoul again, and Chang-hee hugs and clings to Mr. Gu as he becomes thrilled driving his dream car.

A brief scene from Mr. Gu’s past is shown during the new year, when it was snowy, and he was walking away from the building in Seoul.

My Liberation Notes Episode 10 Musings

Finally living the most out of her life, Gi-jeong experiences a rollercoaster of emotions in this episode. Although she was confronted by Gyeong-seon for the words she said on Yu-rim’s birthday back then, her communication with Tae-hoon continues.

Yeom Chang-hee’s eagerness brightens the mood in the story, and makes you want to support his ambition through Mr. Gu. His love and respect for Mr. Gu are definitely on the next level.

No matter how much Mr. Gu tries to hide his emotions, Mi-jeong sees right through it and never gives up. It just feels good seeing him treating her well at the near end of the episode.

As we already know Mr. Gu’s real name and some details of his past life, his nonchalant reactions make it difficult to ascertain his past job. What’s for sure is that he used to probably be in a high position, and he is more than what he appears to be at present.

The episode started with a quarrel, but later jumped to Mi-jeong and Mr. Gu being happy in the fields. For the next episodes, we shall look forward to knowing what Mr. Gu does, and anticipate the reaction of the Yeom family.
