My Liberation Notes Episode 4 Highlights

“Why do you act like you’ve done something wrong when you’re asking for what’s rightfully yours?”

Eating all together, Mi-jeong’s mother shares to Mr. Gu how Mi-jeong found her father’s workshop fun when she was young.

At night, Chang-hee drinks with Mr. Gu, venting to him while also warning him about how they should not mess with Mi-jeong since she handles anger differently.

Coming to work, Chang-hee gets told off by his superior. Because of his talkative co-worker, he finds himself analyzing the situation and level he is at.

Seeing that the Liberation Club is now official, Mi-jeong answers the questions of her curious workmates, but still does not understand the club’s nature.

With a customer who refuses to pay Mi-jeong’s father, Mr. Gu comes back to collect the payment and hands it to Mi-jeong’s mother.

Mi-jeong brings food over to Mr. Gu’s, and he tells her how similar she is to her father for not collecting what is theirs.

While walking outside, Mr. Gu recalls a bit of his memory in relation to his response to Chang-hee’s question the other night on how he arrived in their neighborhood.

“You never get tired as long as you’re in love.”

Feeling weak in the afternoon, Gi-jeong finally receives ten lottery tickets from her male coworker. She tries to return them, believing she is unlucky with them, but she then just keeps them with her.

Spending time together, Hyeon-a guesses that Mi-jeong has found someone in her life. Although denying that, Hyeon-a reminds her to never beg for love like her.

Going for treatment for her wrinkles, Mi-jeong recognizes her old schoolmate in Sanpo, Gyeong-seon, whom she has actually met in a restaurant recently.

After that, they eat together and Gi-jeong hears how Gyeong-seon and her siblings moved out of Sanpo.

Gi-jeong meets again the man whom she has offended in the restaurant before, Tae-hoon, who is actually Gyeong-seon’s sibling.

Although she foresees the possible negative outcomes for Tae-hoon’s dating life, Gi-jeong gets hooked at night recalling him saying to come again to his restaurant after paying and handing him the lottery tickets she holds.

“There will be people who frustrate you anywhere you go, and those people will never change.”

Chang-hee gets nagged by their father for talking on the phone for a long time, treating it work to listen to the emotional discomforts of an old woman.

Their father points out how Chang-hee must have had no plans for his future. Answering back his father, Chang-hee questions their father on his own plans also after having a disobedient son like him.

With that, Chang-hee stays out, unable to finish his meal. He tries to convince his friend to come to his house with him, but gets rejected.

“Sometimes, I think that people who are damaged are much more honest than those who live their lives happily.”

Comfortable with their position, the Liberation Club meets up and sits without facing each other while also providing validation to the feelings of each member.

Although everyone is frightened by the thunder and lightning, Mi-jeong finds it comforting on her part as it gives her hope for an end to the current state she wants to escape from.

Watching the rain inside her house, Mi-jeong rushes to Mr. Gu’s after seeing the lightning striking the electrical pole, forcing him to stay inside his house.

Having an injury on his foot, Mi-jeong’s father brings Mr. Gu to the pharmacy. After farming, Mi-jeong’s hat flies away, and Mr. Gu, although injured, jumps to the other side to retrieve it, shocking everyone.

My Liberation Notes Episode 4 Musings

For Gi-jeong’s life, developments become apparent as we see her finally receiving lottery tickets from her male co-worker. Along with that, she finally meets Tae-hoon again, and becomes drawn to him even though their start was unpleasant.

Nosy workmates of the three siblings could irk you even as a viewer. Especially Gi-jeong’s workmate, her remarks could rile you up, proving how effective her character is.

So many truths in life are discussed in this episode. Though these may be scenes apart, the characters’ simple conversations can make you reflect on various instances in life, such as looking ahead to a far future with plans that are uncertain to happen.

Chang-hee’s question to Mr. Gu sparks a snippet of his memory on the train. For now, his reason appears to be getting off at the wrong station, but there appears to be a deeper story behind it.

His decision to jump to the other side to retrieve Mi-jeong’s hat shows his intention of considering her previous request to worship her.

Clearing up what worship means, we could expect them to cheer for each other, not necessarily developing into romance. As a spectator, we shall await and look forward to the change they foresee in the transition of seasons.
