My Liberation Notes Episode 6 Highlights

“They’ll all go to waste when I die, so why stock up?”

Surprised to see her sister walking together with Mr. Gu, Gi-jeong becomes curious about Mi-jeong’s relationship with Mr. Gu.

Walking on her way to work, Mr. Gu stops the truck to drop Mi-jeong off at the station. Saving his contact details, Mi-jeong sends a picture of a motivational billboard to Mr. Gu.

Meanwhile, Chang-hee sees an opportunity after talking to the owner who does not want to prolong his contract. The owner offers him to take over the convenience store that has attractive profits monthly.

Considering the profit, Chang-hee tries to call his father, but his father misses it. Although he expects him to be turned down, Chang-hee tries to suggest the opening to his father.

Responding to the offer, Chang-hee’s father allows him to take over the convenience store, but he has to come up with his own 300 million Won.

Adding to that, Chang-hee’s mother tells him that she could provide that amount if she divorces his father.

Entering Mr. Gu’s house without his permission to bring soju and free glasses, Chang-hee sees a glimmering green light from a room. Discovering the empty bottles in the room, Chang-hee and his friend cleans it up, but Mr. Gu tells them otherwise.

“Apologizing used to be such an awesome thing to do. It used to be an act of bravery that took self-reflection and was excruciatingly painful.”

Returning printouts that she does not own, Mi-jeong’s workmates are called out for printing their vacation tickets using the company’s printer.

Invited by her sister to drink together, Gi-jeong tells Mi-jeong that she has a weird taste in men after literally picking anyone.

Justifying her choices, Mi-jeong opens up about her ex-boyfriend who used to be a business owner. She admits how she never truly liked anyone since she did not want him to succeed that well, and just wanted to look better in a relationship.

Although they are already drunk, they go to Tae-hoon’s restaurant. Gi-jeong grabs a beer, and opens up a conversation with Tae-hoon after hearing someone demanding an apology.

Sharing the same thoughts about apologies, Gi-jeong takes the chance to sincerely apologize for offending him and his daughter.

Scared of Mr. Gu after their encounter while cleaning up his room filled with soju bottles, Du-hwan awkwardly greets Mr. Gu who passes by him.

“My point is, don’t limit yourself. You have the whole world trying to limit you. So why would you want to do that to yourself?”

Mi-jeong defends Mr. Gu, clarifying that he never asked them to clean up and touch the things inside his house.

Receiving an urgent call about the store he is managing, Chang-hee handles the situation by knowing who signed the lease. He then discovers that A-reum and her father took over the store he is managing.

At night with Mi-jeong, Mr. Gu drinks, and talks about how troublesome it is to interact with people. He also hands her ice cream, claiming he is more human than when he is sober. Following that in the morning, Mr. Gu begins to dispose of the bottles in his room.

Meeting in a cafe, Chang-hee tells Hyeon-a about A-reum, and his recent ATM transaction. Hyeon-a hears about him feeling better after letting the man go ahead of him in the line, instead of snapping at him.

Hearing about A-reum triggers Hyeon-a who appears to be ready to fight her for treating Chang-hee that way. On the same day, she applies at Byeon Sang-mi’s store with Chang-hee.

“I don’t know why I have to live, but let’s have a decent life while I’m alive.”

Since he cannot return the bottles to the convenience store because of its limit, Mr. Gu brings them to the junk shop and receives money. Using that money, he hands Du-hwan some snacks to share with Chang-hee.

Texting each other while smiling, Mi-jeong sees Mr. Gu’s reply, which brightens her mood. She reaches out first to her colleague beside her, which surprises the people around her.

On the other hand, Mr. Gu cleans his house and sends a picture to Mi-jeong. After her work, Mr. Gu waits for Mi-jeong in the station and they go home together.

Drinking together, Mr. Gu opens up about how he drank throughout winter, and felt that his situation is hopeless and inescapable.

Mi-jeong directly declares that she has no plans of interfering with Mr. Gu’s life, and that she will leave once she feels whole. Responding to that, Mr. Gu tells Mi-jeong that she was cool.

Informing her that it was him trying to worship her, Mi-jeong jokingly tells him to say more.

Although discouraged by everyone, Chang-hee tries to copy Mr. Gu’s long jump, but fails to do so. Meanwhile, Mr. Gu receives messages that he can stop hiding already.

My Liberation Notes Episode 6 Musings

Finding themselves smiling while texting each other, Mr. Gu and Mi-jeong are at the beginning of the change they are seeking. Although Gi-jeong and others may find the relationship questionable, a significant difference may be found in their lives after relating to each other.

The bottles inside Mr. Gu’s house may have represented his character’s life. Just like how he did not want it to be touched by others, this could somehow stand for his efforts of handling his own mess without anyone interfering. Since it is his own problems, he shall weigh it on his own whether he sees it as a concern or something that requires others to help.

Hyeon-a has been the best girl for the siblings, especially with Chang-hee. Although Chang-hee has a lot of aspirations in his life, we still get to see his morals that also recognize his father’s values.

For the recent episodes, it may have been vague to understand the relationship between Mi-jeong and Mr. Gu, but now it has become clearer what it is. Clear with her intentions, it also still becomes exciting of what else is stored in their interactions.

Getting to know the characters deeper, we see the messages and the full name of Mr. Gu. Having progressed from their initial states, we can expect the characters to address their problems in the next episodes.
