One The Woman Episode 5 Key Moments
“Was I impersonating a prosecutor? Was I a gangster or con artist?”
Yeon-ju’s funny imagination settled her to a deduction that she’s impersonating a prosecutor. On her first day as official Yumin Group CEO, Lee Bong-sik who knows she’s a fake Mi-na lurks in the building.
Against Lawyer No’s coaching of relenting to the parade of ideas presented to her, by instinct Yeon-ju denies the products with make-sense comments. She has also assessed how overseas partners are not taking her seriously.
Her busy day continues with a luncheon with her father-in-law who talks about his intention to merge his hotel business with Yumin. But Yeon-ju turns down his proposal outright citing her respect for her family no matter how ugly her past with them that she cannot remember.
Meanwhile, Yu-jun meets Prosecutor Ryu who insists that he stop his chase of Lee Bong-sik. He chides on his upright disposition and assigns the case of Hanju group to him. He also learns that a missing person report was already filed for Yeon-ju.
“It’s not like I didn’t even try. No one knows anything about her personal life. It’s like she has not opened up to anyone.”
Seung-wook proceeds with snooping information about what happened in the accident. He also visits Yeon-ju who whines about her busy day. They also arrive at the conclusion of how strange Mi-na’s disappearance is when she does not have any friends and was most likely staying home.
The two proceed with their own missions as Seung-wook goes to probe more about the hotel and drug incident while Yeon-ju intends to dig details at the gallery. Baffled at how two people claimed they saw Yeon-ju, Prosecutor Ryu checks her team, but they confirmed not seeing her. Yu-jun also wonders what kind of mischief his friend is up to.
“What if Kang Mi-na is hiding on purpose?”
When Yeon-ju gets another memory episode, a man who suddenly wants to approach her was stopped by Seung-wook. It turns out that he is a supplier whose product was just turned down. Thus, he takes a chance to speak with Yeon-ju. While calming down, Seung-wook surmises what Mi-na’s life could be, that she might not really vanish but intentionally went hiding.
Their chat gets interrupted by her father-in-law who asked what he overheard about “Mi-na missing”. Thanks to Yeon-ju’s quick mental reflexes, she was able to spew nonsense directing the chat to issues about how she has been leading the company. Seung-wook praises her for being cool, unlike Mi-na. However, she wouldn’t realize why. Still, it puts a smile on her face.
As if she’s not busy enough, Yeon-ju was ordered by Chairman Han to speak with the prosecutors about the art deals issue. She argues about not being the best person to be sent there. But the chairman rebuts her memory loss would come in handy since she can just say not knowing anything and will pass the lie detector easily.
“If you can’t find Kang Mi-na, at least find who I am.”
Off Yeon-ju, Seung-wook, and Lawyer No to the gallery to investigate. But Sung-hye is there to stop Yeon-ju citing she has already taken care of the issue. Yeon-ju learns of how Sung-hye was conned by Lee Bong-sik and has since set the gallery responsibility to Mi-na. Upset of cleaning the complicated life of her doppelganger, Yeon-ju suggests finding out her identity too if they are having problems looking for Mi-na.
Stumbling on the possibility of Sung-hye having a hand in the accident meant for Mi-na, Seung-wook stops Yeon-ju’s whining about two suspicious paintings bought under Mi-na’s tab. He tells her that it’s not something she should worry about anyway. Hit by the reality of living in a house where someone is scheming fatal attacks on her, Yeon-ju panics and wants to get out of the situation.
On cue to what she has considered, Sung-hye ordered Mrs. Kim a dish that she’s allergic to. That is after sensing something odd on her sister-in-law that does not add up. When Yeon-ju mentions Mi-na’s nut allergy, Seung-wook tells her to pretend she’s sick the next day. It turns out Ms. Kim did not do what was commanded to her, but she hints at how Yeon-ju pretended she was sick.
Meanwhile, Seung-wook meets Yu-jun to give information on Hanju Fashion arson case. The same accident that caused Seung-wook’s father’s death. It also caused Yeon-ju’s grandmother’s demise and her father’s incarceration.
One The Woman Episode 5 Musings
The world is getting smaller for all the characters in One The Woman. It seems like the people in both Yeon-ju’s and Mi-na’s circles are going to overlap inescapably. More details about the Hanju Fashion arson case which seemingly intertwines Yeon-ju, Mina and Seung-wook were also given.
As always Yeon-ju’s deliberation of her true identity brings laughter to the series. Heading in the direction of her end-game inadvertently and without her memory really makes her character growth spontaneous and exciting.
Viewers won’t say no if there will be blooming romance on the horizon especially since we like how Yeon-ju and Seung-wook look fit for each other. Because the series is not giving us a more concrete hint of how much involvement Mi-na’s character would play in the story, aside from causing troubles, I’m really not investing much in her motivations for now. I might pay attention once she’s really done with her self-reflection and gives a convincing pitch on why we should understand her sudden absence.
It’s nice to have clever characters in the story. One The Woman follows that trend, so the subtle thrill of their outwitting games keeps the spirited narrative going.
Going to a route where Yeon-ju and Yu-jun would inevitably meet, would at least provide a stronger fortress for the amnesiac heroine especially since she-villain Sung-hye seems easy on using death for someone who comes her way.
Albeit utterly composed of greedy and wicked members, Han family strangely evokes fascination. We don’t know how far they can betray or trust each other. That’s another drawing point of this series.
This week, the excitement rolls for Sung-hye’s growing doubt about Yeon-ju. She’s on the right track, so it’s nerve-wracking to anticipate how Team Yeon-ju will dispel that distrust.
