One The Woman Episode 8 Key Moments
“We heard that you’re going to step up and expose the corrupt prosecutors. We’re here to root for you.”
Going to another déjà vu of guessing the password to her prosecutor’s laptop access, Yeon-ju’s day can’t get any better. She receives a pile of cases and is even regarded as either beacon and annoyance by her fellow prosecutors. Unable to take time off from work because of the pile of cases, Yeon-ju agrees to meet Seung-wook who asked to check on the arson case related to his father.
Lee Bong-sik figures out the person who chases after him is Yeon-ju who unfortunately met the accident and lost her memories. An idea strikes his mind on how he can bring the evidence Sung-hye demands him for his life to be spared. After work, Bong-sik follows Yeon-ju and strikes a brick on her. Fortunately, Seung-wook decided to pick her up so he was able to stop a fatal blow from the culprit.
Yeon-ju subdues Bong-sik and it turns out that she knew he fiddled on the car break. When patrolling officers arrive, the aftermath of the brick smash hits Yeon-ju. Along with that, her memories come back.
“I’m relieved. Your fine and you regained your memory back. How about your family? Is there anyone you should contact?”
Seung-wook is relieved that Yeon-ju got her memory back. She checks on his injured arm and chides him on helping when he doesn’t even know how to fight. Narrating her story of why she aspired to become a prosecutor, Yeon-ju pours her heart to an unfinished goal she dedicates to her dead grandmother.
Apparently, her corrupt ways are part of her ploys to get closer to Prosecutor Ryu – the man who didn’t push the arson case that killed her grandmother. She was also able to retrieve all the mess her evil senior cleaned up for Hanju group.
Lawyer No arrives at the hospital to send Yeon-ju back to the office. But his pent-up emotions of Seung-wook seemingly forgetting himself and always caring for Yeon-ju burst. He reminds him that he has been taking care of him ever since his father died. Before Lee Bong-sik alerts Prosecutor Ryu of Yeon-ju and Mina’s situation, Yeon-ju arrives announcing she regained her memory thanks to the brick he slammed at her.
Meanwhile, Chairman Han advises Prosecutor Ryu to let conman Lee Bong-sik rot in prison where he belongs. He also reminds him to take care of his daughter since he has just acquired a higher position.
“Prosecutors indict people all the time. So, they know very well how they’ll be punished if they commit a crime themselves.”
Yeon-ju coaxes Lee Bong-sik to turn his back against Hanju Group. She assures him that his backer Prosecutor Ryu is already sucking up to Chairman Han. Lee Bong-sik spills not knowing of Mina’s location as he only helped smuggled her to China after striking a deal. He also reveals Sung-hye’s evil plan to kill her.
Assuring Bong-sik that he will be safer at a detention center, he agrees to give the missing client list that would implicate Sung-hye. At that same moment, Chairman Han discusses the hotel merger between Yumin and Hanju.
He explains Bong-sik was arrested so she should relent. Knowing her profit-hound father wants the hotel with or without its owner, Sung-hye proposes a deal he can’t refuse.
“I would come to your side right away when something happens.”
Seung-wook waits for Yeon-ju before heading to his own place. He also adds his number on her phone so she can call him for help in case of an emergency. Arriving at Han mansion, Yeon-ju sits down with the family for dinner. She also agrees to the merger offer of Yumin and Hanju’s hotel businesses. She also accepts the silent war implied by Sung-hye in the merger proposal.
Yeon-ju goes to Seung-wook’s place with a pack of home-cooked food prepared by Mrs. Kim. Presenting the dishes, she mumbles how the old lady must have cared for him a lot since seasoned cockles are hard to prepare. He shares that it is his father’s favorite dish and affirms his closeness to him. Yeon-ju finds herself drying his hair and ponders on how hard life has been for Seung-wook after his father’s death.
They fall on a sparkly moment but it fades right away when Lawyer No arrives. He also comments on the cast he’s still using when his arm is as good as new. To escape the awkward situation, Yeon-ju leaves and Seung-wook can only sigh at Lawyer No’s cluelessness.
Finding Yu-jun in her office, he volunteers to help her. Listening to her long list of requests, he figures her memory returns and leaves before piles of work overwhelm him. Prosecutor Yu visits Bong-sik who imposes on him stay in prison. But he asks him to reveal the list, a little of it to cause problems to Hanju which is also getting on his nerves. Fortunately, Yu-jun saw Prosecutor Ryu stop by, so he alerted his favorite noona about it.
“You got your memories back, so why are you concerned about them? Is it because of Han Seung Wook?”
Yeon-ju realizes the scheme Sung-hye is trying to pull, but she has all figured it out and has Seung-wook on her side. Yu-jun wonders why she’s still involving herself. He also reveals he knows about her father’s connection as the proclaimed arsonist who killed Seung-wook’s father.
She confessed not being able to come clean to Seung-wook yet and remains silent about Yu-jun’s prodding. The next day, Yeon-ju visits her father who was surprised to see her.
One The Woman Episode 8 Musings
Choosing a non-explosive mid-series ending, One The Woman, nevertheless, serves the clear-cut conflicts to be dealt with in the remaining episodes.
First on the list is Yeon-ju’s and Seung-wook’s ill-fated connection through their fathers. It has to be tackled right away so we can see the romance between them flourish.
Next, would be how they would navigate the outwitting game with Chairman Han, Sung-hye, and Prosecutor Ryu. With that, whoever gets Lee Bong-sik’s full trust would have the upper hand.
It would not be a bad idea if the series would pull a reinforcement for the protagonist side through Mina. She should at least return the kindness Yeon-ju extended to her, even when they have not even officially met. We’ve also given her ample time to rejuvenate her broken self.
If not, Yeon-ju can still rely on the minority members of the Han family who all have hidden grudges on Sung-hye.
The arson case holds a significant moment in how the story will move further in the second half of the series. Yeon-ju would most likely change her father’s decision, thus, helping Seung-wook in the process.
A shrewd war has been placed, can Yeon-ju survive it with her dual identities that are intertwined with the same villains?
