My Perfect Stranger traverses the story of Yoo Hae-jun and Baek Yoon-young who met by chance through time travel and get stuck in the year 1987. Yoo Hae-jun is a news anchor and Baek Yoon-young works at a publishing company but she dreams to become a writer.

“They say good shoes take you to a good place.”

One day, Hae-jun finds a time-traveling car that could go back and forth through time, may it be the past, present, or future. In the future, he learns that he will be murdered by a mysterious killer.

He decides to go back to 1987 when a string of murders happen that year and he thinks those are linked to his own death. He secured a job as a teacher in the village of Woojung.

While traveling back to the past, Hae-jun accidentally brings Yoon-young with him. After her mother dies at the hands of an unknown psychopath, Yoon-young’s alcoholic father becomes more miserable than he already is.

“There are problems that reach the same conclusion no matter how much you try to change them.”

She decides that her objective of being in 1987 is to not let her parents meet. Saving her mother from a life of misery even if it also means that she will not be born. While they are stuck in 1987, they work together to investigate and stop the serial murder from happening.

Yoon-young gets to meet her younger mother, her younger father, and her younger boss. Disguising herself as a student and classmate of her mother, she tries to prevent her from getting close to her father and also keeps her away from her suspicious younger boss who happens to also be her classmate.

She tries to do everything to make her mother stay away from her father because she does not want her to lead a miserable life in the future just like what she experienced growing up.

However, she finds herself drawn to her father. She gets to know him better and she begins to understand her father more. The more she learns about him, the more she understands him and she begins to forgive her father and let go of the anger she feels towards him.

Will they be able to stop the serial killer who began wreaking havoc in 1987?

My Perfect Stranger Series Musings

Impressively, My Perfect Stranger was able to bring enough mystery to the story that will keep the viewers intrigued. The narrative presented different suspects that viewers will not know who the killer really is until the finale.

Although romance is not very evident in this drama, the story is enough for you to keep watching. Honestly, it was easy not to have high expectations in this drama, maybe that is the reason why it will take viewers by surprise. Kudos to the writer who successfully made each episode engrossing enough to rope viewers into watching the show.

Moreover, the story also tackles relatable life issues like family problems. Truly, the people that can really hurt you at times are the ones you love. Also, some unspoken words that are left unsaid result in misunderstanding and worst can lead to hatred.

The main leads and the supporting cast were able to portray their characters well. It was also a justified and gratifying ending as the real culprits were punished and the lead pairing get a better future they truly deserved.

Kim Dong Wook as always, owns his character. He really is the best representation of versatility in acting. While Jin Ki Joo is also a promising actress, there is room for improvement and we can look forward to how she develops as one of the most promising actresses of her generation.

The series also underlines how journeying in life means we have to be prepared for uncertainties. That our hopes and dreams when we were young might not happen as we hope they could in the future.

Solve the puzzle pieces from the past with Hae-jun and Yoon-young in My Perfect Stranger.
