My Liberation Notes Episode 8 Highlights
“I think you’re unhappy because you don’t know how good you are.”
With the growing curiosity of her workmates about who she texts always, Mi-jeong thinks hard on the question of what she likes about the man in her house. She admires him for he has no shell, transparent on who he is.
Understanding why people take pictures often to regularly update their loved ones, Gi-jeong accidentally sends a sticker to Tae-hoon, and deletes it right away.
Apologizing for that, Tae-hoon replies that he is curious about what it is, making Gi-jeong smile all day long. Eating dinner together with Mr. Gu, she asks him if he really worships Mi-jeong and how he does it.
Receiving the revisions to be done, Mi-jeong recalls a similar time, but Mr. Gu appears in the coffee shop she is staying at. Drinking beside her, she realizes that her imagination has come true.
On their way home, Mi-jeong tells Mr. Gu that he is unique while drinking. Opposite to how she drinks, Mr. Gu reveals he drinks to feel calm, and curses all the time when he is not drinking.
In the convenience store, Hyeon-a tells Chang-hee that if Mi-jeong was meeting a guy with a lot of problems, she did it to save him.
Filling up the gas of the truck, a man spots Mr. Gu and tries to verify if it’s him driving the truck while also having doubts.
Mi-jeong hands the approved document to her superior, but gets asked to leave it on his desk while indirectly mocking her aesthetic sense.
Talking about the final output is chosen, Mi-jeong tells her colleague she also felt that the first draft was the one to be chosen, but also knows that only the opinions of people in the higher position were relevant.
“Everyone confesses their feelings, gets rejected, and gets hurt.”
Ready to leave again after coming home from a vacation, Tae-hoon announces his plans to go to Sanpo for an album. Her sister then asks Gi-jeong a favor instead since she is in the area.
Enjoying the music together, Tae-hoon thanks her by promising to treat her to a meal. Excited about that, she suggests meeting earlier and personally hands the album to him.
Shy to confess his feelings, Du-hwan airs out to Chang-hee that there should be a policy in the country to handle people like him. He straightens Du-hwan’s hesitation saying that there’s no need to drag the country since he knows well the outcome of his confession.
Adding to his hesitations is the fact that he will be confessing to the principal’s daughter. Considering to have amnesia after getting rejected, Gi-jeong surprises them from the next room.
She seriously accepts having that plan, and pleads with Chang-hee to help her do it at her upcoming meeting.
Seeing that the first draft of Mi-jeong gets accepted, her superior let her leave early. Waiting at the station for Mi-jeong, Mr. Gu buys sweets, not booze, in the convenience store, which then shocks the worker there.
Rushing to see each other, Mr. Gu and Mi-jeong bump into each other. She tells him about her curious friend similar to him, who is transparent. Hearing that, Mr. Gu takes it as her way of worshiping him.
“If you’re embarrassed, just be embarrassed. Life is a series of embarrassments anyway.”
Triggering him on his chances on the likelihood of getting the promotion or the opening he is applying at, Chang-hee walks out at A-reum.
When his phone rings repeatedly with messages popping out, Mr. Gu steps out to answer it and hears about how he was spotted at a gas station driving a truck. Although the man sounds urgent, Mr. Gu tells him that he is too busy right now.
Aware of Gi-jeong’s upcoming meeting, Mi-jeong tells her to eat and not starve herself before meeting Tae-hoon.
At the set meeting, Gi-jeong shares her appreciation of listening to the album. She gets her hopes up after hearing that Tae-hoon is excited, but it turns out the excitement is for him to go home.
Separating ways, she repeatedly hesitates to tell her feelings. Finally confessing it, she gets rejected so she tells him how she gave him the signs. She cries going home with a cast although their original plan was to act she fainted.
Eating together as hometown friends, Chang-hee complains how Gi-jeong used to have no problem exaggerating her pain when they were younger unlike now. Hyeon-a tells the boys that they are all the same breed, and Gi-jeong arrives to eat together with them.
They see a rainbow in the sky, and Chang-hee receives a text message about not getting accepted for the position he applied for and shouts his plans on getting promoted instead.
Meanwhile, Mi-jeong and Mr. Gu sit next to each other on the steps while looking at the rainbow, and Mi-jeong wishes to go back in time.
My Liberation Notes Episode 8 Musings
Having the opportunity to reasonably interact with Tae-hoon, Gi-jeong feels hopeful for her chances with him. Even as a viewer, although she may have endlessly complained about her love life, for this one, you’d want to hype and cheer her on.
Going along with the first draft, it was like a big jab at Mi-jeong’s toxic superior at work. Although it looks like he has bad plans for Mi-jeong’s work, hopefully, it fails.
With someone who spotted Mr. Gu driving a truck, we could be certain that his origins could be tied to a larger organization. We could expect to see not just any ordinary organization, but the one that could potentially endanger Mr. Gu’s life as well as the people around him.
Chang-hee shakes some senses to Du-hwan who seeks to drag the whole country with his hesitancy in professing his feelings. Gi-jeong who overhears again their conversation seriously takes on the ridiculous plan of Du-hwan.
Radiating the comedic sibling energy, Chang-hee and Gi-jeong stages an accident, which leaves Gi-jeong literally hurt after being rejected.
Although individually frowning on their own aspirations in life, we could appreciate the bond of hometown friends who support each other.
